I spent a night in Swala with a few friends and I was totally blown away. The staff were friendly, the managers were great, the tents were private and comfortable, the location is unbeatable. This is really Africa at it best. If I can make one recommendation to travelers, stay at least 2 plus nights so that you can really...

This tented camp was our favorite of the 3 we lodged at during our recent Tanzanian safari. The property is beautifully done with functional simplicity and spectacular views. Plus, you have all the necessary mod cons - indoor plumbing, Wi-Fi, & a ceiling fan to keep you cool. There are few places in the world where you can enjoy a...

A terrific experience in Tarangire National Park - individual sturdy protected tents provide all the luxury of a fine hotel. You feel alone with nature sitting out on your porch enjoying the sites and sounds of the area. A wonderful staff and management that anticipate your needs - great breakfast and organic food, drinks and attention. Having a watering hole...

An incredible experience within the remoteness of Tarangire National Park! Our hosts Tarry & Devon along with the manager, Raymond, created a friendly and relaxed environment to enjoy the local wildlife and natural setting. Everything about the "camp" is amazing from the food, the service and the closeness to the animals. It truly was a wonderful way to have a...

It is indeed a sanctuary and the couple that manages it, Tarry and Devon, are very welcoming. Wonderful tents, which were actually permanent structures, and seemed luxurious after the temporary camps in e Serengeti. Zebras lounged in the pond in front of the tents. Great food and very nice dining area and bar. We stayed here at the end of...

This is a wonderful place located in a remote section of Tarangire National Park. You feel as though you left the world behind sitting outside your tent listening to birds, looking at impalas who come to visit at night and outside of these natural noises, all is quiet and peaceful: quite a contrast to our Western world. The staff here...

Our first time in Africa and sanctuary swala camp was our first stop on a 6 day safari with abercrombie kent. We loved everything about it. Our beautiful and comfortable permanent tent had double sinks! The beds were great and we slept like babies. The masai guard/escorts were fun to walk with in the dark back to our tent...so knowledgeable...

We arrived at Swala Camp at 8:00 PM after a grueling day of transit between our Masai Mara camp in Kenya and Tarangire National Park including a jaw rattling drive from the park entrance to the Swala Camp mostly after dark. The Camp director was ready to serve us dinner but all we wanted was to go to our tent...

How delightful to arrive at Sanctuary Swala as part of an Abercrombie & Kent tour, to be greeted by Dev and Terry on the deck overlooking wildlife gathered around the waterhole. With a welcoming cold drink, Dev gave us a very complete introduction to Swala and were then shown to our amazing "tented" accommodation. The tents are real luxury with...

Well, first complaint is they served my wife shrimp when we specifically told them at check in she was allergic. Luckily no problem. Then the missing pants we never got back. Good stuff: impala sleeping next door and the next morning it was waterbuck. A civet came around at dinner and bush babies in the trees at night. Pleasing staff,...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The main area is situated right under a big baobab tree, a common sight in these parts of Tanzania. The dining area, lounge, deck and small library all feature a chic, contemporary African design with a traditional thatched roof. This main area is lifted on stilts allowing a wide view of the grasslands of the Tarangire right in front of the camp. The stunning infinity pool overlooks the nearby waterhole often visited by elephants as well as the big cats that are often seen. The relaxing pool area also provides the perfect place to sip a cocktail and cool down after a day of game viewing. Sanctuary Swala has been renovated to the highest eco- friendly standards and has a particularly low carbon footprint. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available in the main area and in guests' tents. Each of the twelve canvas pavilions is shaded by tall acacia trees and all are within sight of the well frequented water hole. They are unashamedly luxurious and exquisitely furnished but still close enough to nature to permit an exciting night under canvas. The tents feature a spacious open plan arrangement with comfortable king or twin beds, campaign chairs and plush sofas and boasts an ensuite bathroom with both indoor and outdoor shower for that extra bit of luxury. Sip cocktails or enjoy scrumptious dinners on your own private veranda and watch the waterhole which regularly draws lions, leopards and resident bull elephants while your own personal attendant caters for your every need. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available in guests' tents. ... more   less
