This place was a great and charming way to spend a couple of nights and to have a guide of the battlefields. The drive up to the lodge is a lot of fun, but slow and hard going - be warned if you have a small or low car, an SUV / 4x4 is recommended. The lodge is nicely spread...

Arriving at Rorke's Drift after our horrendous drive from Volksrust and New Castle was like arriving in heaven. A welcoming tour through our accommodation, a check on our dinner order and we began to relax. The beautifully prepared meal and a nice wine ensured that upon showering - in the biggest and most amazing shower ever - we turned in...

Thank you for a wonderful review. Also thank you for mentioning that terrible road through from Volksrust and Newcastle. Prospective guests must take cognisance of our Road Report that is usually sent out two weeks prior to arrival so that guests can use a recommended route...which of course is not the route that you followed.

I have just spent a weekend at Rorkes Drift Lodge and cannot fault the place. From the initial email communications through to the warm welcome at reception and final good bye. I am pleased that I decided to take the guided tour of the Battlefields, as our host and guide, Paul, was an encyclopedia of knowledge on the history of...

Thank you for a great review. As the drought in SA has us in our grips our lawns around the Lodge have become a haven for wildlife and at night we currently see herds of Impala, sometimes groups of Kudu, mountain Rheebuck, and at least 4 grey duikers have made their home around the edge of the Lodge. We even...

We stayed two nights. The views are stunning and the accommodation is spacious although not fully practical as one has to go outside from the lounge to go then upstairs to bed as well as using a difficult spiral iron staircase in order to use toilet and bathroom facilities. Food was ordered well in advance whic is ok but the...

We are indeed very sorry that this guest had such a disappointing experience. As we cannot predict the times that guests arrive it is difficult for us to ensure that the friendliest person was on duty to check the guests in. However, we will definitely be checking up with our staff to find out why they were not welcomed in...

Really enjoyed our stay there, fantastic view from our lodge. Loved the privacy and quietness of the Lodge, will definitely be back soon. Breakfasts were also very good. If you are looking for a place that isnt overcrowded and not commercial at all while enjoying being in the bush, this is the place to be!

Thank you for taking the time to give us a review. We are very pleased that you enjoyed the seclusion and privacy of our little Lodge. We look forward to welcoming you back sometime in the future.

To start with, the lodges are really excellent, comfortable and high quality, the staff and owners incredibly helpful & friendly and the setting is absolutely stunning. But I really wanted to highlight the extras; we took the battlefield tour, which was absolutely amazing and engrossing, encompassing South African history through the 19th century and beyond as well as the poignant...

Thank you for such a wonderful review of our Lodge. The tours are very comprehensive and designed especially with the enthusiast in mind so when we hear that those who are not so very enthusiastic enjoyed their tour too it is very gratifying. We hope that sometime in the future we could get to see you once again.

If you are ZA savvy, the road is just a country access track, just take it carefully and you will have a lovely surprise: beautiful grounds and a very comfortable house. We took a packed breakfast for our onward journey, as we needed to leave very early.

Thank you for taking the time to review our property. We love our access road and of course the little bit of heaven at the end of it.

The track keeps it private; the atmosphere keeps it close; the dogs keep it cosy and secure; the room and food keep it homely and value+; the owner's knowledge and energy keeps it wildly intriguing about the days of the Raj (but in Africa).

We only spent one night here, but hope to come again. The countryside is beautiful. We enjoyed the road to the Lodge and the sense of humour in the notices along the way. The service was excellent - as was the food. We loved Christine Lamberth's art works that are in the units as well as in her on-site gallery....

We stayed at Rorkes Drift lodge as part of our recent amazing South African adventure. The location, quality of the individual lodges, friendliness and accommodating staff (nothing too much trouble) made our stay here unforgettable. This coupled with unsurpassed knowledge of the guides who made the trips to the Zulu battlefields an experience we will never forget. Cannot praise everyone...
