And unfortunately the beloved Wedgewood has closed. From several sources, it sounds like there is a shortage of year-round, affordable (livable) housing in the area, so the owners decided to remodel and lease longer term. Fair enough, but I'll miss the quaint, clean, 'throw-back' motel interior. If the hosts chose to open another endeavor, I would stay with them without... More

Great inexpensive place to stay near grand marais. Clean retro quiet if you're on the backside of the motel. Not on the lake but along it. We have stayed many times. A little far to drive after partying in town.

Our GPS did not take us to this place. It is just outside of Grand Marais. Watch for the signs on the highway. The hotel is immediately after the signs. This is an older place but clean and comfortable. The price was reasonable. There are no hair dryers or coffee pots in the room.

Stayed here in August for a night on our way to a cabin up the gunflint trail and took other reviews in consideration on trip advisor before booking. Exactly what other reviews say is spot on. Clean and basic, very good value with a friendly manager, quiet, and comfortable. A big plus is the fire pit in the back of... More

Not many frills here, as it's basically a road site mom&pop 50's era motel. That said, the rooms are sparkling clean, the place is relatively quiet (for being on highway 61). They have some hiking trails out back and a fire pit. Rooms have a mini fridge and local TV. All in all - thumbs up.

Met expectations, would recommend, will stay again. Repeat visit, third (I think) year in a row. Or fourth. Still the same great Wedgewood. Clean. Minimalist interior, but everything in perfect condition. This year we faced the road, and had minimal traffic sound, mostly drowned out by the oscillating fan. The new manager continues the relaxed, accommodating vibe set by the... More

We didn't know what to expect from the outside of this motel, but the reviews were positive so we decided to try it. We were pleased to find a spacious room with a very comfortable bed and the whole place is scrupulously clean. Everything could use a lot of updating, but the place is so clean and well cared-for that... More

We arrived late evening, owners waiting for us. Very friendly! We were extremely pleased with our room. Basic amenities with comfort with older "look" but well kept. Our cabin faced the highway and it did not disturb us. Original plan was to stay two nights and we stayed for four! We left early in the morning for our adventures and... More

This is a very simple, 1940's - 1950's style motel. I had room #6. It had two double (maybe queen) beds, vaulted ceiling, tub/shower, TV, dresser, small fridge, microwave, two free bottles of water. Room was very clean and spacious. No air conditioning but it typically isn't steamy hot on the North Shore. Joe the staff person was very friendly... More

I know, northern Minnesota is loaded with mosquitoes, but we didn't expect to find so many in our room. We were in a two-double bed room on the back side (#7, I believe) and it had more furniture in it than we needed. The room had a large-ish fridge and a microwave. Loved the shower--great water pressure. The bathroom could... More
