We loved this rustic lodge. The view from our room was beautiful. The rooms are arranged on a hillside so I think all the rooms probably had good views. The only drawback was carrying luggage down a lot of stairs. You have not choice but to eat at the lodge. We had to made reservations for dinner as soon as... More

Away from reception the whole place looks tired, run down and in a major way needs a revamp. Some timbers starting to rot on the walkways, steps, hand rails and on the walls and doors of the units. It has been years since any timber oil or paint has been used. The mould( and there was plenty of it) around the... More

The lodge at Glacier Bay National Park was a convenient place to stay. Knowing that we were traveling to a very remote location we wanted to maximize our time inside the park. The lodge rooms were adequate but nothing special. The walls were thin and you can hear your neighbors. The beds were not exceptionally comfortable. The bathroom facilities were... More

The main lodge building is classic national park style. Our room was in a smaller separate building that housed four rooms. Waterfront location in Bartlett cove, next to the hiking trails - very convenient. The day boat tour of Glacier Bay starts from the cove, and is not to be missed. It is led by a national park ranger who... More

Dear Arun K, Thank you for the positive and thorough review! Reviews like this are great because they give the prospective traveler a great deal of first hand information on a visit. As you say, the day boat tour is incredible and arguably the best day trip in any U.S. national park. As you mention, the jet flies from Juneau... More

Glacier Bay is just an amazing national park ! Glacier Bay Lodge is conveniently located at Bartlett Cove. The naturalist rangers offer very interesting ranger walks - very recommended and show movies at night. Food is good, a bit expensive but normal for this remote location.

Thank you very much for the positive review and for staying at the lodge. We agree that this is THE place to stay in the area, since it is right in the middle of the national park, with trails leading right from the property and easy access to the pier and the magical sunsets on Bartlett Cove. As you mention,... More

The room was rustic, the food was good in the Fairweather Dining Room, the new Huna Tribal was beautiful. The boat tour turned out be better than expected. Because our plane couldn't land as planned and we had to wait a day to get to Glacier Bay, we lucked out by switching from our original tour boat date to the... More

We are glad you enjoyed your Glacier Bay Boat tour and got to see so much wildlife, especially the bears. We often see just as many terrestrial animals as we do sea life on the boat. Although the weather can be a bit unpredictable, it is unusual to have fog all day. We are glad you had sunny skies on... More

So happy to have the chance to stay here. It was an important part of our experience which included a flight in on Alaska Airlines, free ground transportation by the lodge, the Glacier Bay Tour Boat. Rooms are very basic, and simple. Like a camp cabin. The benefit is the location on the shore, at the tour boat dock, and... More

We are happy to hear that you had a great time at the Glacier Bay Lodge! Our location, on the shores of Bartlett Cove, in the national park with views of the Fairweather Mountains is unbeatable. For 2017, we will have new furniture, bedding, mattresses and art work in the rooms, so they will be an even more comfortable place... More

We stayed here 20 years ago and things were a little different then and much more organized. Dear SacTraveler, We are sorry to hear that you were not happy with the transportation from the whale watching to the lodge. On occasion, it is necessary to combine the whale watch pickup with an airport run and usually the passengers really enjoy this! They get an opportunity to see downtown Gustavus, check out the art gallery, the vintage gas... More

This lodge is located in a remote part of Southeastern Alaska and the remoteness was a key part of the charm for my family. It was quiet, clean, and the design of the rooms added to the old-school charm. The staff were extremely friendly and the trips we took through the hotel were breathtaking and stunningly beautiful.

I've had the pleasure to travel all over this state in my twelve years up here, and I agree with your assessment that it is "breathtaking and stunningly beautiful." This is one of the most spectacular places in the national park system and the boat tour up bay simply can't be beat. We are glad you and your family had... More
