I know we are in the midst of a pandemic and I know that there is a radical shift in how places need to do business, but I was expecting some things to be different at a Marriott, which why I chose them or and a against some other property.

First, the good. It is conveniently located close to the river, the restaurants and the center of Savannah’s main attractions. They did upgrade my room to a junior suite (due to my status Titanium Elite status) which was a nice large room, with a sitting area and a balcony that opened to the atrium. The bed was comfortable, though there was no trash can in the bathroom!

More good - Nikki was very nice and cordial and allowed for a late check out. The young woman in the bar was cordial (though I will come back to the bar in a moment), and the waitress, Stephanie, was very nice.

Now to the not so good. I understand the need for caution during this pandemic (I wore a mask most of the time, and the staff basically did, though most other guests did not) but some things I think that the hotel could have been more accommodating, especially to those who are their elite status folks. The closing of the concierge lounge I can understand. But it would have been nice if they would still offer free bottled water and a breakfast coupon or credit or discount. They could have also offered free parking or reduced parking. I have built status in Marriott to get perks, even in these times. These can demonstrate to frequent travelers that you appreciate our coming out and staying at the hotel.

I arrived late, but the front desk said the bar was still open for food until 10. I got to the bar around 9:10 p.m. and they said the kitchen was closed, thus, no food, and no room service. Most places around the hotel were closed, too. I ended up walking a mile or so to find an open place (and that was not good food either - they will get a review, too).

Bottom line, one would expect certain things from the Marriott brand. However, I would have gone to another property if I had known that the services where so radically reduced. Additionally, the staff was not fully committed to always wearing their mask in public, with sometimes it being partially on their faces. The hand sanitizer machine probably had been radically watered down that there was little to no alcohol, and felt only like water with foam on my hands. If I had had time and thought I could find something better I possibly would have changed hotels. I didn’t feel completely environmentally safe there. When I stay at other properties I hope for a better feel and safe. If you are looking for a safe place to go during this pandemic Savannah may not be a good option. I must say that this was my first time traveling since March, but it was not a good feel in light of the experience. Most people may not care feeling environmentally safe during the pandemic, but I do!

Loved the 2 king beds and alcove. The room was clean despite previous comments by others.
With Covid, many changes in place, but felt very safe with the cleanliness. They could not have housekeepers enter occupied rooms, but additional linens, waste can liners etc were supplied quickly.
Staff following Covid recommendations and we were given bottles to refill water at water stations, along with bags of ice on request.
Staff was pleasant and efficient, responded to all requests quickly. I would certainly stay here again.

This hotel is in a perfect location on the river, a short walk to all of the shops and restaurants yet far enough away to be quiet and relaxing. There is onsite garage parking and outside parking ($25 per night), a designated smoking area on the river side, and a small outdoor swimming pool on the side of the building. Old photos show an indoor pool, but the pool is now outside. We enjoyed breakfast at Blue and evening cocktails in the lobby bar.

We stayed at this hotel overnight and when staying at a Marriott you have certain expectations. I’ll give you the pros and cons:
Room was spacious and clean, lacked drawers if you’re staying for longer period
We had an interior room, balcony looked into the atrium similar to Embassy Suite rooms so not appealing
Bed was very comfortable
Bathroom had basic amenities, no shower cap
Self-Parking but convenient - cost $30 night
Location was at the end of the historic district about .9 mi. If you can walk easily it’s a nice walk along the river.
A big negative, after dinner we went to the bar for a nightcap. We waited about 10 minutes and the bartender totally ignored us. We waived at her then she finally came, we gave her our order and after another 5 minutes or so she still didn’t bring our drinks yet she took care of customers to our right that arrived after us and was taking other orders. We finally left without our drinks. She was very rude!
Breakfast - free coffee however if you wanted breakfast they offered it in a section of the hallway similar to when you’re attending a business meeting. Buffet was $29.95 and continental $20. I thought Marriott could have done much better, at least offered breakfast in a restaurant!

Our stay at the Marriott was wonderful. We booked last minute and Spencer at the front desk helped us pick out a room with a partial riverfront view and partial city view. Our room was comfortable and we enjoyed sitting on the balcony to watch the boats go back and forth along the river. The hotel lobby was huge, clean, and modern and they have a restaurant and bar in the hotel as well. The hotel's location to River Street is very close as you can walk in front of the hotel along the river to River Street as the walkways are connected. This hotel is located towards the end of River Street, away from the hustle and bustle, which is what we preferred. This will be the only hotel we stay at whenever visiting Savannah or Tybee Island and when we return, we plan on getting a full river view as that was the highlight of our stay. I will say the pillows and bed are very soft, so you may want to bring your own pillow if you need a firmer one. The photos below are of the view from our balcony. Definitely recommend!

The location of this hotel is ideal. It is close enough to all the action including River Street but still hidden away for privacy and peace. The staff at check-in was great and the concierge Zachary was delightful and helpful. The rooms however, are a different story. We stayed in room 320, the desk underneath the TV console was broken and completely off its hinges. We were afraid to touch it for fear it might fall. The metal piece of the vent next to the bed was bent and sticking out and could easily cut anyone who walked by. The bathroom although pretty at first sight was full of mold. It looks like they had not properly cleaned it in a long time. The toilet was stained and looked disgusting. In the morning as usual, we wanted to make coffee in the coffee maker in the room but did not because the pot was filthy forcing us to buy coffee at the Blue Cafe in the hotel which charged us $5.00 a cup. The lobby area was nice but could use a little ambience or music. Had we known that there was another Marriott on the other side of River Street we probably would have stayed there. That J.W. Marriott is newer and seemed cleaner. Considering the rate that this hotel charges and the fact that they rate themselves as a 4 Star hotel we expected better. Although this will not be my last trip to Savannah, it will certainly be our last trip to this Marriott until it is cleaner and maintenance has been done in all the rooms and guest areas.

My husband and I decided to take a trip to Savannah for our honeymoon since neither one of us had been and heard it was amazing. When we pulled up we were amazed by the building and even the first and second floor where the lobby was located. We couldn't wait to see our room! When we walked up to our room the door was not shut. You know how you normally would have to use your key to get in? All we had to do was push it open, which to me was a little suspect. When we walked into the room and checked it out there were no toiletries (soap, lotion, etc.) in the bathroom and no towels. Which was very inconvenient for us. Me being the neat freak that I am immediately took out my disinfectant and started spraying the sheets, bathroom and couches down because again with the door being open I didn't trust it. Later on that night I went to cut the air off and it wouldn't go off. I got in the bed to try and warm up, it got so bad that it woke me up out of my sleep around 4ish and called the front desk to see if something could be done. They explained to be that maintenance wouldn't be in until around 7 and they could send someone then but in the meantime could send a blanket. So 7 comes the maintenance man came but said they couldn't really do anything about it because during that time of the year they have it manually set to air. Okay we let that slide only to find out that on my husbands side of the room none of his electrical outlets worked. We called back to the front desk and the same man came in looked at the outlets and said he'd be back. He came back and said he couldn't fix it but gave us an extension cord and asked my husband could he work with that. At this point I want another room, but my husband doesn't like to complain so he took the extension cord. Also while we were there one night I see something out of the corner of my eye run across the floor....it was a roach! At this point I was just disgusted and ready to go. My husband ended up killing it but for the price that we paid to stay in the lavish hotel it was not living up to its name. Ill give the hotel a 4/10 you get fooled when you walk into the lobby and then the rooms are crap. How could we enjoy our honeymoon if everyday it was something. Never again will we stay here.

If you are a Bonvoy elite member stay away from this property. This was my sixth Bonvoy stay this year and this was the only property that failed all around with recognition of my platinum status. There is no current scientific reason for why the executive lounge is not open. The hotel offered a meager 750 points as a consolation prize for not providing free breakfast at their on site restaurant. Housekeeping seemed non existent and had to be requested at least 24 hours in advance. Guests on my floor were simply placing their used linens and trash in the hallway were it sat for days in one case. As for room upgrade, I appeared to be among the few who did not receive a balcony room. My final statement was full of errors that took far too long to resolve.
In fairness, this property is well located outside this historic areas but in close walking distance along the river or a ferry ride . It is an older hotel built with the type of atriums that are not financially practical today. The openness of the large lobby was very impressive.

I reviewed this property a few years ago and gave it a glowing review. This time not so much. The hotel is still nice and the room upgrade was great. my only observation was that the hallways need updating. My biggest gripe this trip was the appearance of price gouging. $30 per day for self parking, $5 for a really bad cup of coffee, refills were free but who cares if the coffee is bad. $12.50 for a single Tito's vodka tonic and the prices on food seemed way out of line since they do not have 4 star venues. My wi-fi was free due to my program membership, but that is for 2 devices. I have 2 and my wife has 2 so we were charged $12.95 per day for wi-fi. We were also charged $12.52 per day and I have no clue what that was for.

Due to the pandemic there was no housekeeping service, and restaurants operated on a limited schedule with a limited menu. I was ok with this and actually appreciate their efforts to provide a safe environment. I just think that they should evaluate some of their pricing.
