Planters Inn's prime location garners appreciation from guests for its proximity to local attractions, restaurants, and shops. While the historic charm and antique furnishings contribute to the hotel's unique atmosphere, some travelers have suggested that refurbishment could enhance its appeal. Service at Planters Inn receives mixed reviews, with many praising the staff's friendliness but some experiencing issues with attentiveness. Although amenities like free newspapers and shuttles are well-received, the absence of ice machines and daily room service has been noted. Room conditions vary: while some find them quaint and cozy, others report mustiness and wear. In terms of cleanliness, opinions differ—with several guests satisfied but others pointing out inconsistencies. The value proposition is debated, with reasonable pricing weighed against service and cleanliness concerns.

We checked in on 6/15 for a three night stay. We were a bit early so the room wasn’t ready but we were able to check our bags and valet the car. This was our first time staying at the Planters Inn but our 4th visit to Savannah so we know our way around, on foot, pretty well. After walking around town and dinner at Paula Deen’s restaurant, our room was ready. It was a beautiful room, with simple vintage like furnishings. The room was average size, had a coffee maker and a TV that we never even turned on. Coffee is always available in the lobby as well. We were in room 610. From what I could tell most rooms have a view only of the parking garage but I don’t stay in Savannah to look out the window so the view was insignificant. I do recommend bringing a white noise machine as the noise outside can become very loud later in the night. Monday through Thursday evenings, in the lobby, is a piano player and complimentary wine and cheese and crackers. It was a very nice touch and we enjoyed that after a long day of exploring Savannah and before heading out to dinner. The location of this hotel can’t be beat, it is in the heart of the historic district and is a 5-10 minute walk to almost anywhere. The room rate is very reasonable for Savannah, you won’t be disappointed!

We enjoyed our stay here and found our room very nice. Upon arrival, we found out we had been upgraded to a balcony room. Our room had 5 windows with a door looking out onto Reynolds park.

The wine and cheese reception is great! You must get there early to get a seat. There is just white or red wine with a food choice of cheese and crackers.

The location of this hotel can't be beat if you want to explore downtown Savannah. We were able to park in the garage next door for less money than using valet and the car was within easy reach. A bonus is that the old Pink House is next door... a great restaurant!

Our only negative is the breakfast restaurant. The room was really hot and stuffy and the variety of food a little limited even though I really enjoyed the fresh pineapple.

Planters Inn is right within the historic district, no car needed to get around, Valet parking a bit pricey. The hotel has the southern Charme, complementary wine and cheese in the pm in the lobby, nice. Breakfast is good however the breakfast room on the Mezzanine level is small and gets crowded if you show up late. They were revamping the elevators during our short visit, sometimes causing a wait. Rooms are nice, need a little bit of updating but the hotel was after it.
This was our second stay at Planers Inn and we would return there anytime

My wife and I stayed here for two nights on a Friday through Sunday in Feb. 2020. We are senior citizens and tourists. I chose the hotel because it appears to be historic and classy, and situated across the street from one of Savannah's historic squares. I made a good choice. We paid $192 per night including taxes, fees, and I think the hotel is worth the price. The lobby is attractive with high ceiling, classical furnishings, and views out to the square. However the lobby could use some color on the walls, instead of white paint everywhere. At 4pm they serve wine and crackers in the lobby, which is enjoyable. It's free, but a tip is expected. A female pianist provided music during the 4pm happy hour, playing popular tunes on a baby grand piano. It was a bit too loud for the space, but the idea is excellent. Our room was beautiful with lovely dark wood furniture, but no microwave or fridge. Coffee is provided in the room. We were given a corner room, by some stroke of luck, so we had more windows. The queen beds were 4-poster beds, which looked great but the vertical posters got in the way of watching TV (but we did not mind at all). The queen beds felt large and sumptuous with really nice cotton sheets and bedspreads (not a duvet). The bathroom was excellent with first-class fixtures, finishes and personal items. The building is old and you see signs of its age, such as chipped paint on a windowsill, so everything is not perfect. In our room, the windows needed cleaning. One of the two elevators was down for repairs, but the waits for the elevator were not bad. The single elevator was used by both staff and customers, adding to delays. In the hotel, newspapers were available everywhere, which we liked. The free breakfast was good. The breakfast room is not large and has only one small window, placed unusually low near the floor. Historic, I guess! The breakfast room is on a mezzanine level of the building. Breakfast food features lots of fresh fruit, plus eggs, meats, waffles, french toast. Good food. We enjoyed our stay and we recommend this hotel.

Booked 5 rooms. Was a bit leery from reading the negative reviews but had no need to worry.

Rooms: most overlook a parking garage; a few binder clips on the curtains for the light and it was fine. Had a corner room; noise was a bit much one night due to loud car radio but was not a problem the other nights. No problems for the other 4 rooms.

Beds: soft and a bit springy, but surprisingly comfortable w/plenty of comfy pillows.

Breakfast: not the best quality but many options. Cereal, oatmeal, muffins, toast, bagels, sausage, omelets, biscuits & gravy, scrambled eggs (powdered, not very good), waffles & french toast (you put in toaster). Coffee, tea, juice. Quite suitable if you just want a small bite in the AM.

Wine & Cheese: nice reception. If you want exotic cheeses & top shelf wine, go to the Pink House. The wine was fine, we enjoyed having some cheese & crackers to nibble on and listen to the piano player. Was a great time to meet others staying in the hotel.

This may not be a 5-star Ritz Carlton but it's worthy of 5 stars: location is right on one of the square, you can walk to all the attractions in the historic district. And the staff is EXCELLENT. Every single person we encountered, from front desk, wine server, valet, concierge, housekeeping on several floors, maintenance, breakfast server, etc, every last person was friendly & cheerful, full of smiles and went out of their way to be helpful. I look forward to our next trip to Savannah and staying at the Planters Inn.

We stopped here on our way to North Carolina and chose Planters Inn due to its location so we could park the car and walk everywhere.
Parking was convenient to the hotel, and there was a choice to self park or use the hotel valet. We chose the valet and compared to other places we looked at price was reasonable at 17.95.
The hotel was beautiful and our room was very cute with a four poster bed and since we were on a higher floor we could see over the garage and had a beautiful i view of the downtown skyline.
We especially appreciated Jennifer at the front and everything she did to make our stay so great! She went above and beyond for us giving us an overview of the city, recommending places to visit, and even booked us a restaurant reservation when we were having trouble finding a place (it was a busy weekend and everything was very busy).
We will absolutely stay here when we visit again and recommend it to our friends!

This s a small historic hotel on one of the iconic squares in Savannah. The location was great, walking distance to most of the historic district as well as the riverfront. Our room faced the Reynolds Square, but it was not noisy. Our room was nicely decorated and clean enough, but the mattress was horrible. We could see the dent in the middle before we even got in. I have never written a negative review about a hotel mattress, but this was the worst. Of course due to COVID, there was no housekeeping services, clean towels were available, but you had to go down and ask and then wait for them to go get them so you could carry them up. There was no included breakfast. They recommended Henry’s, a diner around the corner, but did not offer any coupon, nor was there a discount on the rate. The major desk manager was very unfriendly and not helpful, The other staff was nice. One of them gave us bottled water when we asked, but the rude manager charged us $1.50 for each bottle. Overall, not the best experience and we would not stay here again.

Response from Jenifer Dempsey, Guest Services / Front Office at Planters Inn
Responded 6 July 2021
Hello! Thank you for your comments concerning your recent visit to The Planters Inn. We always appreciate when our guests take the time to offer their feedback, giving us the opportunity to improve our operations. Our location off of Reynolds Square in the heart of Savannah's historic district, is ideal for taking advantage of our beautiful city. With River Street only two blocks away, and Bay Street and Broughton Street each one block away, Savannah's many shops, restaurants and attractions are just a short walk, pedicab or Downtowner away! We are thrilled that you enjoyed our fabulous location! We are also thrilled that your Parkview room provided you with a quiet place to rest at the end of the day! Our Parkview rooms, located in the front of the hotel overlooking Reynolds Square, tend to buffer some of the noise from the surrounding streets, and the parking structure to our right. We encourage guests who may be sensitive to sounds to consider booking parkview rooms to reduce noise and maximize their comfort during their stay. Thank you for making us aware of the mattress in your guest room. This mattress, as well as several others, have been replaced with brand new Sertas. We will have all of our rooms outfitted with these new mattresses very soon. If any of our guests are in need of a specific level of firmness in their mattress, we are more than happy to place you in a room that has the appropriate mattress that will ensure a great night’s sleep! As COVID restrictions and mandates are lifted, we are able to transition back into our normal pre-pandemic operations. As of now, we are still not able to enter a guest’s room after they have checked into it. If you need anything at all you are always able to stop by the front desk or dial “0” on your guest phone and we will bring the items up to your room. We understand that it is not always convenient to come to the desk, or to carry items back to your room. We have no problem delivering items to your room if needed. Along these lines, we used to bring complimentary bottled water to our guest rooms as part of our turn down service. While we are currently not able to offer this service, our guests are entitled to one complimentary bottle of water per person at any point during their stay. Subsequent bottles of water or cans of soda are available for purchase, and they can be charged to your guest room for convenience. I apologize that that was not made clear and I assure you we will be more forthcoming on this policy in the future. We also have free, filtered ice water in our lobby 24 hours a day available to all of our guests. Thank you again for your comments and giving us the opportunity to improve. We would like to invite all of our guests to address any issues they may have during their stay with a member of our staff, as we want all of our guests to get a good night’s sleep and stay hydrated so they can fully enjoy their savannah getaway! Cheers!

The staff at the hotel were friendly. The wine social was nice. That's about all I can say. Only one elevator was working. The overall cleanliness of the hotel was poor. The pillow on our bed had a large blood stain on it. I took the pillow to the front desk and was told they would find out who cleaned our room the day before. There was a dirty towel from a previous guest left on the back of the bathroom door. There was dust everywhere. I Cloroxed and Lysoled the room when we arrived. The bathroom must have had some work done as there was caulking spots everywhere on the baseboard and floor. I was quoted a nightly price of $250 when I made my reservations by phone, and then my bill revealed a cost of over $300 for one night. In the breakfast area, the handles of tongs were laying on food surfaces. At the height of the Coronavirus scare, you would have expected more cleaning and sanitizing in the hotel. This hotel is not clean and is in need of extensive repairs. The mattress was very poor and the TV was old with a bad picture. The remotes sporadically worked. It is located next to a noisy street. I have no idea why it is listed as a top 20 hotels in the city.

I was a little nervous about staying here after reading some of the reviews, I am so glad I kept my reservation! Let's talk about location, just the best! Right next to the Olde Pink House and Planters Tavern where you must go, we went three times! The Inn is in a really quiet spot right at Reynolds Square. You are so close to everything. Leopold's Ice Cream is right around the corner, City Market is a quick walk as is River Street. I had been considering the Marshall house and DeSoto, we walked by both during our stay and I was so glad I didn't choose either.

We arrived early before noon oh, they were nice enough to take our bags and texted us when our room was ready. Rather than Valet Park we parked ourselves right in the garage next door. There is a free breakfast, wine and cheese in the evening, turndown service and cookies later at night. Everyone was super nice and helpful. There is one elevator out but that didn't slow up anything for us.

If you are considering Planters Inn, I'm telling you to try it! If you enjoy quiet and history this is the place for you. If you think every things should be brand new and perfect you should probably consider the Comfort Inn or Holiday Inn.

The hotel was what we expected as far as looks and amenities. It was musty smelling and cracking walls but it’s a very old building. As far as location it’s great. However the thermostat could be updated. Even the maintenance man said you just have to keep turning it up and down the get it to turn to heat. The bellman Richard and the maintenance guy were the nicest people there. When we checked in the woman behind the desk acted like we were bothering her and both women that were cleaning rooms acted annoyed as well when we asked them questions. Today when we were checking out we asked a lady in the elevator a question she wouldn’t even turn to look at us and just gave a “yea”. This place needs to promote Richard and let him give customer service lessons. We will not stay here when we come back.

Thank you for reaching out as we do have a few options for your vehicle. Valet service is available through the hotel for 17.95 per day, with unlimited in-and-out privileges. There is also self parking in the same garage (the East Congress Street Garage ) for $10 per 24 hours. Self parking will have you pay each time you leave with your car. There is also street parking, through the city of Savannah. That is $2 an hour, Monday thru Saturday, free on Sundays and holidays. Street parking is in the numbered spots and you can pay at the kiosk, or through their app.
