Marriott has applies lipstick on a pig in an attempt to generate a few more years of revenue from a tired former Courtyard. By gluing together stacks of old hard-cover books and displaying antique typewriters, the owners of the Notary hope guests overlook the fact that the infrastructure is decrepit, the windows fail to block street noise, the elevators take forever... I arrived at noon and told the front desk clerk I would be happy to leave my bag with the bell desk if a room was not yet available. She checked my status, thanked me for being a Bonvoy Titanium member and asked if I minded two full beds rather than the king that had been reserved. Bed type doesn't matter so she touted a great view and sent me to a double that overlooked the public square outside the former City Hall Annex. I dropped my bag in the room and proceeded to my afternoon itinerary. Upon return in the evening, I was too tired to mess around with changing rooms even though this was a noisy room. I didn't sleep a wink and had to shove toilet poper into my ears. The last time I stayed at a Marriott property in downtown Philly, it was a Fairfield that was being used as a homeless shelter. No matter what level of seniority in the Marriott Bonvoy program, downtown Philly is a no-go zone. My recent stays at the Logan (Hilton) was excellent but the property was sold out. Loews in Philly is also a good choice, and I regret not having stayed there instead of Notary.

As usual with all Marriott's, I was told the room I reserved wasn't available at check in. Nothing spectacular about this hotel. Six of the absolute slowest elevators I have ever seen. Well, five of the slowest, as one was out of order. Seriously, if you're in a rush to get somewhere, use the staircase or plan on 10 minutes for the elevators to show up. I am not exaggerating. No coffee in rooms, so you have to go to a coffee shop downstairs. Not a hand-brewed coffee shop - you pay $5US for them to put a small cup in an office machine and push a button. And you best get there by 10:30 AM, because they close the coffee hut at that time. And the entry doors are locked and the hotel has minimal staff after 7pm. Yes, 7pm. Water pressure was miserable, and the shower was a bathtub/shower combo. My general impression of the entry and lobby was dirty. More effort on making it "quirky" than clean and functional. Location is excellent, I'll give it that; but as a hotel, it is lacking.

Stayed here in October 2021 when I was in town for a wedding. This hotel was excellent. The front desk staff was so kind. I booked a corner suite with a queen bed - it had a partial view of city hall, but the room was large, and the bed was so comfortable! The suite was handsomely appointed. All aspects of this hotel, including the decorations, are so unique to the building's history and Philadelphia's history. Elevators were a little slow but it didn't detract from the stay. It's located right across from city hall. Perfect stay!

Stayed with my brother on our family visit to Pennsilvania. Excellent location, facilities and staff. The staff gives the extra mile, very friendly and familiar service upon check in. She gave us excellent tips on options for wandering around the area and visiting attractions in Philadelphia. Faciilties are modern and very well kept. Recomended 👍🏼👏🏼
