My husband and I stayed at the Ash Canyon casita. It is a lovely little efficiency, quite comfortable and well-stocked with breakfast foods. The hummingbird gardens are only a few steps from the door and provide a place to relax, take photos and enjoy a number of species of hummingbirds and other birds as well. We were lucky enough to...

This is my fourth time visiting Southwest Arizona but my first time visiting Ash Canyon B & B. I had heard about it from someone coming to AZ for a hummingbird tour. It was wonderful to be able to visit for the day for just $5 since I wasn't actually staying there. I live on the East coast and only...

The only garden in the U.S. to see Lucifer Hummingbird. Owned and Run by a lovely lady - very helpful and friendly and happy to share her garden and stories with you. A real pleasure to visit and all you have to do is make a contribution to the sugar water fund. Absolutely brilliant!

We went around noon and Mary Jo was nice enough to tell us that the Lucifer shows up around 7:00pm. She has a bossy Anna's guarding the feeder all day so Lucifer makes his appearance I. The evening when the Anna's retires for the night. We showed up around 6:00 and just like she said he did make his appearance...

My wife and I stayed at the Azure Gate B&B in Tucson and our host told us to visit Miller's Canyon, Ash Canyon, and Cave Creek Ranch to view many types of hummingbirds. Bingo! Ash Canyon B&B is far easier to find than the other remote places. We only sat for 2 hours, but saw 4 different Lucifers, lots of...

We are a group of 6 birders from New Jersey on a 10-day SE Arizona birding trip. We DIDN'T stay at Ash Canyon B&B because of a large party. Since the owner of Ash Canyon B&B, Mary Jo, also welcome day visitors to her yard and bird feeders, we did just that. One day before the visit, we called her...

More than a B&B, this is a fantastic birding hot spot. Mary Jo maintains feeders that attract a variety of special birds besides hummingbirds. Then the area is rich with other birds. Add to this clean air, beautiful landscape, and peaceful surroundings. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. By the way, this B&B is beyond any of the classic definitions, such...

We Highly recommend staying at Ash Canyon B & B. Mary Jo has a wealth of knowledge about the birds and the natural history of the area. We visited in the birding "off-season" and it was fantastic! Many people come just for the hummingbirds, but there is so much more and outstanding bird photography opportunities! If you're lucky enough to...

We just went to sit in her backyard. 20 chairs and 20 feeders. The best part was when Mary Joe came out and sat with us to help identify the birds and talk about their habits. She has a way of being able to talk to all level of birders.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Casita (a separate building from my house) is designed with your comfort in mind. Inside, you will find the spacious room with kitchenette and bath thoughtfully stocked with everything you need, and then some. If you're a birder, you won't want to miss watching the amazing variety and numbers of birds coming to the feeding areas and water features. You can enjoy your morning coffee either on your own private patio, or walk a few steps to my back porch, where I can join you to help you identify the many birds, mammals, butterflies, and reptiles coming to visit. This is a nature preserve that many have called a slice of Paradise. Come share it with me.Mary Jo Ballator, Host ... more   less

“This is a small and quiet location where there is a single separate casita. Only one guest (or couple) at a time. Day visitors are allowed on the property to visit the bird feeders, but we were never disturbed by any during our stay.”
