Though the room was very clean, loved the sheet music tiles (perfect for practicing sight reading in the shower). Our room was small but this is expected of New York, we liked the location 20 min walk to Times Square & 5mins to Empire State. The lift (elevator) was very slow and seemed near the end of its life cycle...

We love this hotel! well placed. Very nice decore and comfortable beds. The coffee and tea downstaires was so nice! The elevator is sometimes long but just take the staires it's not a big deal! The staff was rude and we had to call many times to get extra towels or other. Watch out for the extra travel and resort fees....

I enjoy my stays here at the Evelyn. The staff is courteous and the rooms are well maintained.I would love to see real mini refrigerators and microwaves and tea/coffee makers in the rooms. There are times I just would rather not see the outside for a day. Those items would make this possible.

Very nice place if your into small rooms but not in my taste. I actually did stay for my two days I left and came back for my things because I was so unhappy with the room given. I also offered more money if I got a bigger room.

Lovely decor in rooms, very comfy beds and very clean. Underfloor heating a treat in bathroom. A little noisy from the street but didn't keep me awake. However my roommate bought ear plugs to drown out street noise. Lovely coffee and pastries in the morning, the lobby and seating area was almost boho, it looked like renovations were taking place...

Everyone at the front desk was so nice and helpful, and the rooms were spotless, though not huge (too much to hope for in NYC!). The lobby is currently unfinished, but that gives the place a nice ad hoc vibe.

The room was not as advertised. Unfortunately very disappointing because it looked like a very nice place. Very dark, hardly any lighting. Phone didn't work. Wanted something to drink in the late night but there was no vending machine. On the other hand, the location was convenient for the stay.

The lobby is trying to harness some charm from the walls and floors that are in disrepair by adding funky furniture and murals. It kind of works and to be fair they are working hard to upgrade things, having started with the rooms and hallways. Clean, smallish comfortable rooms with new everything, including large walk in show with rain shower...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Evelyn formerly The Gershwin Hotel is now offering newly residential inspired rooms with references to an Art Nouveau Style. Our NoMad hotel is inspired by the musical and art heritage of the neighborhood, which was the epicenter of the popular music industry in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The music theme is reflected throughout the rooms, corridors and bathrooms. The NoMad District (now also known as "NoMad" - North of Madison Square Park) is now one of Manhattan's most popular neighborhoods, characterized by its beautiful and historic architecture, exceptional bars and restaurants tucked away on quiet side streets, and many other attractions. Centered around Madison Square Park, the NoMad District is within walking distance of Midtown, Union Square, Greenwich Village, and NYU. ... more   less
