We spend seven nights in New York and stayed at The Evelyn for the last night. The room was very dark, you cannot move the curtains aside. Our bathroom also had a very strong mold/mildew smell. The elevators are also extremely slow and frustrating to use. It would almost be faster to use the stairs.

The entry to the hotel feels like a hotel near a bus depot and although the exterior of the building and the interior is gorgeous, the entry way is dull and dingy. The lobby is under renovation and yet has a certain old world charm to it, that is not for everyone but reminds one of Montenegro, Budapest, Buenos Aires....

The hotel rooms wrre on the small side but had everything you would need. The location was excellent. The Lobby under refurbishment which we were aware of but could have come as a shock if you didn't know. The bedrooms have been refurbished

Our family spent recent easter holidays in New York, we confirm our hotel preference at Evelyn as a very good choice. Very good location, maybe there are some maintenance in place during our journey but we didn't experience any problem at all. Our rooms were a little bit small, expecially the family room, but the confort was high.

Very pleasent stay in a hotel with friendly staff. Location was very good near Impire State Building and we could walk all over central Manhattan, took only subway once. The hotel is also close to Penn Station

I recommend this hotel very highly. The staff is efficient and attentive. The rooms are small but clean and comfortable. Great location right in the heart of the action in Manhattan. Ideal for business travellers.

Good location but very misleading pictures. Reception very unmodernized. Not really a hotel lobby, looks like a hostel (as it used to be). No proper toilets on ground floor. Rates should have been reflected accordingly.

Stayed as I liked the previous hotel there. Thought the outside decor was still remaining but they were also taken away during my visit:( There's a good coffee shop almost next door and location is really convenient. Staff members are friendly (compared to NY standard) and free coffee at the lobby. But...nothing is special. Bathroom at the ground floor is...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Evelyn formerly The Gershwin Hotel is now offering newly residential inspired rooms with references to an Art Nouveau Style. Our NoMad hotel is inspired by the musical and art heritage of the neighborhood, which was the epicenter of the popular music industry in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The music theme is reflected throughout the rooms, corridors and bathrooms. The NoMad District (now also known as "NoMad" - North of Madison Square Park) is now one of Manhattan's most popular neighborhoods, characterized by its beautiful and historic architecture, exceptional bars and restaurants tucked away on quiet side streets, and many other attractions. Centered around Madison Square Park, the NoMad District is within walking distance of Midtown, Union Square, Greenwich Village, and NYU. ... more   less
