Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Firstly, this is a hostel - not a hotel. That is very clear on here and also on their website. It is basic; but has everyone that one may need for a decent and enjoyable stay. it is similarly in a superb location: with Central Park literally on the doorstep, Times Square 15 minutes walk away and the Natural History Museum 20 minutes walk away. I turned up quite late following a delayed flight and to my surprise; my debit-card wasn't working (as I hadn't informed my bank that I was travelling overseas) - as such, I was unable to pay for my room. This was no issue for the kind staff members behind the desk and they advised that I could pay for one night only and then pay for the rest when my card was operational. They ensured that I had alternative funds for food and drink and really did make me feel at ease. Thankfully, all was sorted the following day and I was able to pay my dues. The room is incredibly basic. I opted for a single room over a shared room; and had a bunk-bed (using the top bunk to lay ou clothing), with a desk, a television (with plenty of channels) and a small clothes rail. It was incredibly appropriate for a solo-trip where I would merely be sleeping - and, spending minimal time. It was cosy. The shower and toilet were on the same floor and were shared facilities. They were clean and never too busy. They were more than appropriate. Overall - an incredibly cosy room that was affordable and in an incredible location. For solo travellers on a budget: incredible.

Room is tiny. No space for anything . No hangers on the wall . Very noise . Terrible beds and pillows. Toilets are clean tho only positive . Staff downstairs is extremely unhelpful and rude . You can call as many times as you want , never picked up phones for emergencies, no help….

The location was central and fantastic. The cost was far cheaper than anything else we could find. However it did feel like a prison cell so myself and my friend spent hours exploring and just used the bed to sleep and recharge our batteries. The shared bathroom wasn’t great but functional. I don’t think I would return with my kids and/or husband. But a friends get together, on a budget, is bearable.

I had seen this YMCA as an option when I booked trips in the past. However, since it’s more like a hostel, I was never able to give it a shot. I’m usually in town with others. Last weekend, I was considering visiting New York City on a solo trip, but the price of hotels was just ridiculous. So I had decided not to visit. At the last minute, I found that I could stay at the Y for a fraction of the other hotel options. Keep in mind, this is a hostel. However, I did have my own room. It was very small, and the beds and bedding were what you would expect at a dorm at college. if I were them, I would upgrade the bedding. The beds and the other furniture were fine. But I would’ve been willing to pay an extra $10 or $20 a night just to have better sheets and pillows on the bed. As you may have seen from other reviews, the location of this YMCA is probably as good as you could ask for for a trip to New York City. Honestly, I cannot think of a better location to stay in the big apple. I’ve stayed at numerous locations throughout the city, and this one was as good or better than any of those. From downtown, to the upper east side, to Times Square to Hell’s, kitchen or Midtown, I still think this location is probably better than any of those. I want to say they had someone cleaning the bathrooms on our floor every single time I walked down the hall. And I mean every time. I went to see Madonna in concert and came back late that night. I probably didn’t get back to my room until close to 2 AM, and there was a woman out in the hall, cleaning those bathrooms even then. The bathrooms pretty much felt like they had just been cleaned every single time I used them. to be honest, knowing I would have a shared bathroom down the hall was one of the things that made me almost not stay here. But it turned out to be fine. Each bathroom has its own sink, toilet and shower. And once you go into the bathroom, it locks behind you just like a hotel room. Every time I needed to use the bathroom to use the restroom or take a shower. There was at least one available. And most of the time multiple options. The people at the front desk were very nice. There was a security guard in the lobby each time we came or went. he was also very nice. All of the people I ran into were very very nice. You have to keep in mind. This is an active YMCA though. This is not a high-end hotel at all. It does sort of feel like you’re staying in a dorm at college. But that’s not a bad thing. Honestly, the location and the facilities here were Just what I needed. I thought about even taking a swim in the indoor swimming pool, but I just didn’t have extra time to do that. They were having an issue with cable, so I cannot watch TV while I was in my room. I believe that’s probably a temporary issue though. And I was able to watch everything I wanted to watch on my phone anyhow. The Wi-Fi did seem to work well for me. I love being so close to Central Park that I can leave the hotel in the morning and be walking in Central Park in about three minutes. I will definitely stay here again in the future if I’m traveling on my own. I don’t know that I would stay here with other people, just because this is more of a hostel environment than a traditional hotel.

Not sure what to say about this place. The location was central and fantastic and obviously it was much cheaper than other places in NYC in December - which is crazy expensive. But the place was an absolute mess. Dust and dirt all over the floors, the cover for the heater had fallen off. I went to use the hand towel paper in the toilets and the cover for that fell off as I was trying to dry my hands. There were marks on the mattress of the bunk bed - which creaked a lot. We basically stayed out as late as possible and woke up early just to spend as little time in the place as possible.

Very basic rooms just to sleep, Clean bed and great location. I wouldn’t probably back again to here, I was there for one night and moved to another hotel. But safe and sound to rest with less cost in costly NY city. Staff are friendly. Showers are basics

The youth hostel seems to have a rich social program with various activities including sports but unfortunately, the rooms, bathrooms and their technical maintenance have no relation to the exorbitant price asked for a youth hostel . This should be a place outside the inflationary madness of New York precisely because of the social, human and non-financial object of a youth hostel. The dilapidated and poorly maintained premises accommodate human beings of modest means but also insects including cockroaches... you need to know this for those who are put off by this to have a good night's sleep at 150 dollars anyway!!! Toooooo bad because this stay had a taste of (re) youth for me... which I still found again for a few nights....mainly because I'm not very sensitive. But still........a little more respect for your host will be welcome and wouldn't be too much, dear friends . Best regards and nights ;) Sincerely Daniel from Paris, France.

Good value for money. Single room, very small but with fresh sheets, towel and air-condition. Air-condition was a bit noisy, but not a problem with earplugs. Great location! Easy to check-in and check out. Clean shared bathrooms.

Horrible bed, horrible pillow, absolutely impossible to sleep, my head is cracking after such a sleep, absolutely impossible to relax. The heating is redundant and you have like 80 F in the room which makes it feel like sauna. The staff was unable to resolve the issue. Though it us the only affordable option near the central park so you gonna live with all of that
