Park Central Hotel New York has garnered mixed reviews, with its location often celebrated for its proximity to key attractions like Times Square and Central Park. While some guests appreciate the spaciousness and comfort of the rooms, others criticize them for being dated and not well-maintained. The hotel's cleanliness and amenities are a hit or miss according to guests, with some praising the diligent housekeeping and others pointing out inconsistencies.
The atmosphere blends modern elements with areas that appear weary, and noise levels can be problematic for those seeking a quiet retreat. Travelers have also voiced concerns over perceived hidden fees impacting the overall value of their stay.

Detailed Reviews
Nice hotel in a great location, rooms cleaned and towels changed every day, check in queue can be really long if you turn up at the wrong time, it can be really noisy outside very early in the morning (it is New York) so if you can request a high floor that would help. There is a destination fee at this hotel which I was not aware of, it was $230 for 5 nights. The only small disappointment was that there was no tea & coffee making facilities in the room.

steviecEdinburgh, thank you for sharing your feedback. It's great to know you enjoyed the hotel's location and the cleanliness of the rooms. Our team understands the occasional wait times during check-in can be frustrating, and we're pleased to offer suggestions for minimizing street noise. Guests are always encouraged to inquire about additional charges like the destination fee when booking. We appreciate your suggestion regarding tea and coffee facilities, and look forward to welcoming you back to Park Central Hotel New York for another pleasant stay.

We stayed at the hotel for 9 nights in late August 2024. The location is great, it is located in Midtown north where there are major attractions, and is quiet both day and night. In the area there are a lot of restaurants, diners, and also nearby market, for example to buy water (in fact there is also a sort of small bar in the lobby but we did not use it also because of the hours, we found it often closed). The subway station is a stone's throw away, and from the hotel walk in 5 min you are in central park, on fifth ave, or at MoMA, and in 8/10 min to Times square. The hotel looks great, both outside and in the lobby. The room was functional, queen size bed, and bathroom with bathtub, towels and always clean sheets changed daily. We didn't detect any major cleaning problems, but in the room there is carpeting which is not really among the most hygienic things. As in all the rooms closed to ny air conditioning ball, even in the room, we tried to turn it off for the night but a minimum always circulated. There are two elevators for the whole structure, it happened to wait a few minutes especially at times of greatest use (morning breakfast time, evening dinner time), you have to arm yourself with patience or try to anticipate these times, nothing as tragic as I had read in other reviews however, also because the cleaning staff very kindly also allows you to use the service ones if there is need. Upon arrival they deduct from the credit card (so mandatory to stay here, bring it) a deposit of 100 $ / day, for any damages / services etc (in addition there is the tourist tax of about 40 $ / day, that will not be returned); at check out ask if you will be charged something (if you have to dispute that is the time) and then after a few days the amount will be credited back, as in my case (I had read here some reviews in the opposite direction, but we had no problems, after 7 days we were credited back everything).
We did not use other services, nor did we have special needs (we left in the morning and returned in the evening), and I can only rate our stay as positive. Possibility to leave luggage in storage at the hotel (we were not charged anything). Even for the departure the doorman was kind enough to look for a taxi (usually some taxi stops anyway in front of the hotel just for guests). If we were to return to the city, it would definitely be a pleasure for us to return to Park Central.

The hotel is in a great location, just a 5 minute walk to Times Square, the beds were extremely comfortable and cleaned to a high standard everyday. However, the reception staff were rude on several occasions with different members, after a 16 hour day travelling it’s not nice being greeted with an attitude. The rooms need to be sound proofed. The first 2 nights we had no sleep as there was a baby crying next door all night, when we asked if we could move rooms, we were told they were full. You could hear people walking up and down the corridors all night and early in the morning.

Hotel's Favourite
We've stayed at this hotel 4 times, and its the best value for money if what you are looking for is location and comfort. This last stay was particularly good because the people at the hotel were very kind to accommodate my needs, especially the guest experience manager Betty McKenzie. Since there is no kitchenette or fridge in the room, and I need it to refrigerate something and then had it warm up each morning, she offered me a kettle and a mini fridge, which totally took care of my need. On top of that, I wrote to the hotel the day before, telling them that due to my flight being canceled, I was now arriving on an earlier flight which meant I was to arrive at the hotel at 6 am, without being able to sleep at all the previous night; Betty was extremely nice finding a room for me to check in at that moment so I could sleep at my arrival; in order to do that, she upgraded me to a better room which was the one available at that time. She really went out of her way to help me with everything, and that made all the difference.
At the time of my stay, they were doing maintenance on the elevators so only 1 was working but I never waited more than 5 minutes.

On arrival we found the staff on the desk very cold and miserable. The lady who checked us in rattled off the check in instructions so fast and inconsiderately that we barely understood a word, she wasn’t even looking at us as she said it. Not a good start.
The room was very run down and in desperate need of refurbishment, there were long dark hairs inside the bath tub that were very clearly not from my wife or I and more long dark hairs stuck to the bathroom walls. Obviously some housekeeping issues there! Not very nice at all that the bathtub hadn’t been cleaned from the previous guests.
Most days the lobby was absolutely packed full of kids and had luggage piled to almost ceiling height. There was usually only one or two people serving on the main desk while there seemed to be a lot of staff just stood around talking or messing with their phones.
The place was full of teenage kids when we were there who rampaged around all night, played music, shouted and basically didn’t care one iota for other guests. We had to bang on the door next to us and remonstrate very loudly with one group who came in at 1am and started clapping, shouting and playing music at full volume.
The situation with the elevators is nothing short of ridiculous. Expect to wait 20 - 30 minutes at busy times or walk up many flights of stairs. They say some elevators are being serviced or refurbished. We didn’t see any work taking place during the time we were there.
There is the usual total rip off of ‘tourist tax’ which is nothing short of daylight robbery given that you get zero amenities- no kettle, tea, coffee, water, absolutely nothing. Just 2 plastic cups that weren’t changed or replaced all the time we were there. Casting Netflix onto the TV didn’t work either. There is a coffee shop in the hotel that charged us $16 for two coffees, another way to rinse every cent out of you whilst there.
Be aware also that the cleaners just walk in. No knocking, no announcement, just straight in so be very careful to use the door chain/latch mechanism when you’re in the room.
On a positive note the bed was very comfortable indeed and the hotel is in a great location, a stones throw from Central Park and close to several subway stations. The WiFi is quite slow but worked fine and was easy to connect to.
Be mindful of the issue some guests have had with the smoke alarms. The hotel have charged several people hundreds of dollars for smoking in the rooms when most of them haven’t smoked at all. Do some research into this before you decide if you’re staying here as this could prove very expensive and annoying if you’re innocent and still get charged. Only use the hairdryer and spray aerosols etc in the bathroom with the door shut or you could set the alarm off and get charged a fortune.
All in all, I’d say this place is the US equivalent of Travelodge in the U.K. Rundown and tatty, very loud at night and lots of young people with zero consideration or respect for anyone else. We wouldn’t stay here again which is a shame as this place was obviously once over a very nice hotel.

Jim, the team is sorry to hear about your recent visit and appreciates the detailed feedback you provided. The observations about your check-in and guestroom cleanliness are being reviewed internally to ensure a better experience for future visitors. The hotel is located in a prime area, which can result in busy common areas, but the team aims to accommodate all guests as efficiently as possible. We are aware of the concerns surrounding noise levels and elevator wait times, and your feedback contributes to efforts to address these aspects. The team would like to assure you of the smoking policy in place to maintain a comfortable environment for all guests. Thank you for highlighting the comfort of the bed and the great location, and for providing insight into your experience.

This hotel has a positive only the location that is on seventh street, very close to Time Square and Central Park, otherwise the rooms are not properly cleaned, we found in all three days of our stay the same pieces of plastic that had fallen there, our pajamas were always left unfolded and thrown on the bed, in the shower there was no foam shower and also the pillowcases of two pillows were torn. They do not have breakfast and do not have a luggage storage. Also on the site it was written that they had a rental car service and instead they sent us to a renter and we even had to take the metro to go there, it was not even close. All to pay even very high amounts. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!

Lovely location , just a short walk from Times Square, Central Park and 5th Avenue. When you walk unto the lobby it's very classy and smells beautiful. The hotel bar was great and the music Saturday night was fantastic.
The room (12th floor) had a strange damp smell and has a few scuffs and cracks on the doors and paintwork. Bathroom sink could have done with being the silicone being re-done. Probably wouldn't stay here again but wasn't horrible.

My wife and daughter were on a planned trip to New York to celebrate my daughters 21st birthday and at the time due to work commitments i was unable to attend but i was able to negotiate a couple of days off so began the surprise where i would fly out to New York and walk into the restaurant on the night of my daughters birthday. I contacted the hotel to lay the foundations of the plan and cannot explain how accommodating and helpful Betty Mckenzie ( Guest experience Manager ) and her team were in pulling off the surprise. Firstly they upgraded the room so that the ladies were unaware of my attendance and left balloons, treats and items for Autumn on the morning of her birthday and they had everything in place when i arrived at the hotel to get showered changed and to the restaurant by 20.00. To say the ladies were shocked / surprised to see me was an understatement and i can only thank Betty and the team for all they did for us. From the moment we all arrived we wanted for nothing and the staff were always smiling and courteous. I can't speak highly enough of the staff members with the hotel in a prime location to explore the big apple. I will be recommending this hotel to friends / family as you will certainly receive excellent service with a smile !
Thank you so much Betty for making my daughters 21st one we will never forget.

I was SO WORRIED about staying at this hotel before I went because I seen so many bad reviews on here. BUT we had the most lovely stay here so please don't worry about what you are reading on here.
Firstly, yes there is only one lift in operation but this is made aware to you upon booking. The longest we waited was honestly 5 minutes and there is a service lift you are allowed to use too. We were on the 10th floor and we just walked down the stairs most days - it only takes a couple of minutes if you really want to get out in a hurry.
Secondly, upon arrival you are charged $100 per night for the length of your stay. ie 3 nights = $300. This is only a pending transaction on your bank account and if you don't break anything or charge anything (drinks etc) to your room then this is all fully refunded upon checkout. You do have the option at checkout to pay the resort fee in cash or to have the resort fee taken off of the pending amount in your bank. But honestly its all very easy and there's nothing to worry about.
Lastly, the hotel itself is beautifully decorated. The lobby is stunning. Also the doorman is so helpful in getting you a taxi and negotiating rates with taxi drivers!
I'll definitely be booking this hotel for next year ☺️

Our experience of this hotel is very much marred by our first encounter with the hotel staff . Hotel looks great from the outside ,foyer smells great , location is perfect short distance from Central Park one way and short distance to Times Square and the Subway in the other. Beware a wolf in sheep’s clothing, on arrival at reception we were met with a very sour greeting from the receptionist who informed me she was going to block my credit card for $1400 , reeling from this ( I had paid for the holiday in full some months previously) I questioned the amount and she said oh actually it’s $900 which she said was for a security deposit or in case we spent money in the bar or shop which I said was ridiculous. She volunteered to get the manager , who was equally sour faced and said if I didn’t like it they would cancel my reservation and I would have to ask my agent to find us somewhere else for myself and my 18 year old daughter, bearing in mind it was by then 11pm UK time and not wanting to be left stranded in an unfamiliar city I felt we had no option but to go ahead with this! The receptionist refused to give me a receipt and said it would remain a pending transaction. This was not the case and I have had to wait 17 days for this to be returned to my card , and had to contact my credit card company! As we left the reception desk the receptionist shouted at me and don’t smoke in the room or it will cost you $500 ( I don’t and never have smoked ) . On arrival at our 11th floor room there was a large dirty stain on the carpet between our and next rooms door which remained for the entirely of our 9 day stay. The carpet was frayed in the room and the decor very tired , the blind and ceiling stained in parts. The room was extremely hot and we couldn’t open the window even slightly. We turned the heating off but most days we would come back to find it had been turned back on to 28 degrees! On the plus side the room was large the beds comfortable and we were given plenty of towels ( although they were rather small). There was no complimentary water in the room or kettle ( we asked for one but it never materialised) . There were two thin plastic cups on the dressing table!
As other guests have mentioned there was often a smell of weed on the landing and only one lift was working , which was usually very cramped , although we did meet some lovely fellow but equally disgruntled guests!
To conclude we loved NYC but I wished I had taken heed of the reviews prior to our trip and found a different much friendlier hotel that doesn’t try to scam its guests!

Nikki, it's unfortunate to hear about this first impression you received from our colleagues at reception. It's important to us that every interaction enhances your experience, so it's disappointing that we failed to meet expectations in this instance. We assure you the card holds are a standard procedure, not meant to cause distress but to ensure seamless transactions during your stay. Your comments about the room's condition and serve as vital information for us to improve on these aspects.
