Such a good spot for families - my husband and I wanted a room/suite to share with our three children and this was perfect. The Upper East Side feels quite residential and safe and is a fair bit quieter than anything more central. The kitchenette had everything we needed and although the hotel doesn’t serve breakfast we found the flexibility of doing our own thing suited us well (there is a local diner that the hotel is affiliated for deliveries with if you prefer room service! The decor is a little tired but everything was clean and tidy and the staff were friendly and helpful too. We’d recommend this hotel to families looking for a good NYC base very slightly off the beaten track.

Your review of The Gardens Sonesta ES Suites New York is appreciated. It's great to know that your family found our suite accommodating. The location's residential vibe and the kitchenette seem to blend well with your needs. While we don't serve breakfast, it's excellent that you capitalized on the flexibility of our setup and our affiliation with the local diner. I Thank Nigel at the front desk to give me a quiet, sunny ,good view room #811. He has been friendly and quick to response for any requests I had. Also bellman Skyer is great help from the day one. They made my stay very comfortable, and I will return to this hotel next time I am in NYC.
I wanted to avoid crowded and loud Times Square area. Hotel Room is large, plenty closet spaces, and a kitchen. Nice and quiet residential upper east side area. A great burger joint Jackson-hall is across the street (as well as many other eateries) Morton Williams around the corner. Quick access to many subway lines and Cross town buss, the location of the hotel is unbeatable for me.
Minor set back was room cleaning, water glass was never replace or cleaned entire 6 nites stay. Also hair dryer was never put it away. But it was not issue at all. Just that everything else was excellent. My suggestion to the hotel is to give guests choices of how often they want having room cleaning - for an environmental prospects. Some of guests may choose clean towels and sheets every 2-3 days or room cleaning for a good cause.

I don't remember the last time I wrote a hotel review, but I felt compelled to do so after our stay here. The experience was wonderful from start to finish due to both the hotel itself and especially because of the staff. We were traveling as a family of four, including two young boys. If you have young kids, you know staying in a hotel room altogether is a nightmare. We prioritize finding accommodations where the kids can be separated from us a bit rather than a smaller, "luxury" property. When we stumbled across this property it seemed ideal. We were in town for a family wedding on the UES, and we could walk to every event, which was amazing. From the moment we arrived, the staff was helpful, gracious and so kind to our kids. They had great recommendations, anticipated our needs and made us feel welcome and cared for. Every single employee we encountered, from the bellman to the front desk and cleaning people always greeted us warmly. The room was serviced daily, which isn't always happening now with staffing shortages. So that was great. When Krys brought us to our room with the bags he asked when someone should return to prep the pull out couch. We left for lunch a few minutes later, and when we returned in less than an hour it was ready to go. The one-bedroom king suite was incredibly spacious. Really unreal for NYC. It made a huge difference to have so much space and for us to have our own bedroom and the boys to sleep separately from us. The full kitchen came in handy for snacks and some meals. We had a babysitter two nights, and with all the space she wasn't forced to sit quietly in the dark a few feet from our sleeping children. We will not hesitate to stay here again and will recommend it to everyone. The level of service here was unmatched.

We booked a 6 night stay for my sister and I to celebrate a 50th birthday, her travelling from the UK, I from New Zealand. We tried to contact the hotel via our booking without success, then phoned from NZ to see if they could assist with airport transfers and grocery ordering; the retailer only accepts USA cards. They gave me an email address for reception, which I used twice without success. When we arrived at the hotel they advised that they had noted the enquiry on our booking, they made no comment as to how they had missed responding to the 2 emails. Interestingly when we questioned the bill to the same email address we received a response pretty quickly
Every morning we said “hi” to the desk staff, evenings we also made an effort to ask how they were. Not once did any of them ask about our plans for the day, offer a friendly word or advice, nor ask how our day had been. Though they had noted the birthday, no enquiry was made as to how we would celebrate, in short, there was complete disinterest in us as guests.
We had a good sized room, great little kitchen though under equipped, serviceable but elderly bathroom. Beds were firm but comfortable, however pillows were cheap and lumpy. There was not a cushion to either bed or the sofa. The housekeeping was very generous with towels, and kept everything at eye level clean, though a good dust to corners would improve matters.
The only facility the hotel appears to offer is a small gym, to be charged a considerable sum for this is unwelcome. Surely this should be charged on a per use basis
Our rating is based on a great sized room, reasonable house keeping, and the location in close proximity to the subway, an amazing supermarket and good local restaurants. We were slightly thrown buy those reviews that commend the staff for being friendly. The only comments made to us were by one individual member, who asked daily after my sisters missing suitcase; no offer was made to assist us with this

Too noisy and wrong location for us. Nice hotel and staff are really nice and accommodating. People have mentioned this being a quiet street, which in deed it is in terms of people, however, as a resident the bin collections and other restaurants/hotels throwing out their rubbish at early hours, every day, I did not find this a quiet hotel at all. What I really didn't like were the blinds and we were in a room where the windows had 3 black out blinds (pointless as 1" gaps inbetween each one) and 3 privacy net style blinds as you are overlooked. So 6 wires to open and shut and believe me by the end of the holiday you are getting fed up with these. The bedrooms are very spacious and the beds comfortable, however, the wardrobes are black, but there is no ceiling light, only bedside lights and you can't find a thing. I was using my iphone torch each time to get my clothes out. Kitchen didn't have a kettle, but you only have to ask and one is brought to you. We were in a 1 bedroom apartment and it was wonderful apart from a couple of bad points above. There is a single recliner chair which after a day of walking is very nice. There is a very nice cosy snug room by reception to sit in and wait on your exit day. The water and snacks by reception are free, but not advertised. Although this could be my fault as I didn't read the in room information. Another point to note is you can't watch netflix, prime or any streaming service on the TV, there are no connections to your phone, which given most hotels in the UK seem to offer this service I found disappointing and I could not find a thing to watch or use the remote to search the channels. If you are a USA citizen you might know all the channels, but for a UK person I couldn't find anything as there are lots of channels to go through, but with no context as to what each channel was actually about. Overall it is a nice hotel.

I’m hesitant to write a review bc I don’t want this place to get more popular than it is and harder to get a reservation next time I want to stay! Having encountered the Affinia chain quite by accident (walking past on— they never came up In an internet search for me) I will only be staying there on future trips to nyc. As a former New Yorker who regularly comes to visit family now with my own family of 2 small kids, 2 step kids and my husband and I , we have outgrown being able to crash at family’s apartments. Airbnb does not allow for rentals of entire apartments in nyc— which is key when traveling w small kids to have the extra space and rooms and kitchen etc. in comes Affinia. Extremely spacious, modern and well appointed APARTMENTS! Our recent stay had a highly functional little kitchen complete w dishwasher, large bedroom with two queens, and a big living room w pull out couch and a dining table we had our New York family and friends come over for dinner at (while the kids could be asleep next door). Only minor improvement could have been the outdated bathroom but it was functional enough given the huge benefits of the rest of the suite. They had everything you needed like a pack n play, high chair, etc. The staff were all so friendly and helpful. We have now stayed at the 38th st and 64th st properties. 64th is particularly convenient with numerous drug stores, Starbucks, groceries, etc. and a subway w elevator on block away. we ordered DoorDash or Uber eats in a few nights and had family over for dinner while the kids slept .
When traveling with small kids staying in a standard one hotel room is just impossible. Staying at Affinia let’s you live like a New Yorker with kids but with daily housekeeping service :)

The hotel is located across the street from a medical center, and near many others , so they have a lot of people who have come for medical reasons. Rooms are very large and very comfortable, particularly if you are staying for an extended stay. There is a real working kitchen with a full refrigerator, and large microwave and stove top. The lighting is excellent for reading The bathroom is well equiped, and has toiletries in refillable bottles in the shower. There is also a full length counter along one wall. Maintenance needs to be more attentive, however, to checking that all drains are working properly The location of the bathroom, however, is not great. It is literally on top of the bed. One issue the hotel has, is climate control. There is only heat or cool, and it is controlled by the season. On checking in they should alert you to this, so you dont spend time trying to get air on and being frustrated that you cant. The front desk staff is very nice though and friendly

My family of five (two teens and a pre-teen) came to Manhattan for Spring Break. Finding relatively spacious accommodations for five people was a bit of a challenge, but came across The Gardens and booked it without difficulties a few months before this week.
The Gardens is to the east of Central Park in Lennox Hill. We really liked the location, which was away from the craziness of the Theatre District, and was a convenient half a block away from the Lexington/63rd subway station. Central Park was also very easy to access.
The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. We had a room up on the sixth floor with two queen beds and a sofa-style pullout for our fifth person. The room was quite spacious, and had a kitchenette - very handy for buying some snacks from the Morton Williams supermarket across the street from the subway access. The room was clean but could use a bit of freshening. The blackout blinds were fantastic for keeping our room dark, and our family kept on an MST schedule for our holiday. The limiting factor for a group our size was the bathroom, which was very small.
The hotel was nice and quiet for how busy it seemed to be. Overall a nice stay, The Gardens was a great base of operations for giving our kids a NYC experience.

This hotel is to be avoided unless you ABSOLUTELY have to be in that specific location on the east side of Manhattan. Poor service, dated room decor, lack of cleanliness in the room, HVAC that does not work properly, mechanical failures—non flushing toilet at check in. Finally, although the price per night may be comparable to other very high end hotels in the vicinity the Garden Suites itself does not warrant its high price per night.

I came “home” to New York for Thanksgiving, having lived in Los Angeles for 28 years. I’ve stayed in many hotels in Manhattan, selecting locations that are convenient to whatever family event, business conference, wedding, or vacation destination I’m in town for. I think I’ve found my new fave spot. The Upper East Side location is what attracted me, as my Thanksgiving celebration on Park Ave in the 70’s was nearby. I have stayed in midtown on the westside and been detained by Thanksgiving parade traffic. The hotel is so ideally suited for so many subways! There are great restaurants, stores and Bloomingdales right there, and some of the best hospitals in the world are on the block for those in town for surgeries. The terrace was awesome too, with lovely furniture to sit on if it wasn’t cold out. The staff is utterly amazing and they upgraded me to a suite with a terrace that obviously enhanced my stay. Brew yourself some coffee or tea in the lobby lounge/business center and delight in people watching. I loved it. Great toiletries in the spacious bathroom await you after you awaken from that super comfy bed! I travel a lot and this was a winner! Thank you😀

Definitely not and I think I put this on my feedback. Added to that we were moved to a room where, rather than one blind across the windows the blinds were split into 3 given the length of the windows and there were huge gaps in between the blinds. That said we went in October and the sun wasn't coming through and due to high raise block opposite there wasn't much bright light. It is one black out blind and one mesh blind, but the gaps between the blackout blind and walls, or gaps if you have 3 blinds are quite large.

Not a Keurig but coffee maker using packets of coffee. Kitchen has everything you need for long term stay. Dishware, bowls, silverware, pots, pans, cooking utensils, openers, dishwasher detergent, and more. If i recall right they may provide initial paper towels and napkins but do not resupply those items. We had a 1 br apt and it was roomy, comfortable and very clean....hope this helps.
Yes absolutely. Simply call the hotel after you have made your reservation and we will make the necessary request. Note that our one-bedroom apartments have a sleeper sofa in the living room as well. We hope to be able to welcome you to The Fifty.
