This hotel was beautiful. When you walked in the door elegance hit you. We did not have to wait long to be booked in. The room a deluxe king size was good the bed was very high and comfortable. The shower was hot and powerful. We only had drinks in the hotel as we were out all day. We did...

If you do look up our reviews, you see that within the last five years or so, we have stayed in well over 20 different hotels in Manhattan, so we know our NYC hotels and we are happy to report that Barclay figures among the best ones for its class. The spacious lobby, the multiple elevators eliminating potential wait times,...

I don't understand how anyone can complain about this hotel. Don't listen to them! Ha! I visited NYC for the United Airlines Half Marathon. From the moment I arrived by car I was welcomed with so much attentiveness. I got an amazing recommendation from the concierge for dinner options. The reception and bell captain were also very accommodating. Room service...

Beautifully renovated hotel with perfect location. I've been visiting New York but this is the place I learned to appreciate. It's near monumental places and lots of shops around it. Walking distance to 5th Avenue, Rockefeller Center and more and convenient a minute or two walk to a food store and Starbucks. Bellmen were helpful throughout our stay. One night,...

The hotel looks amazing, the arrival experience is the most welcoming I have seen in NY. And our room was fabulous The whole team is of star level and I couldn't point out one name if I tried - each of them manifests their pride of the hotel and city, and we felt truly welcomed. Highly recommended!

My wife and I spent one night in the hotel our best experience was at the Gin Bar Jose Torrella was outstanding. I am Manhattan connoisseur Jose prepared the best Manhattan I ever had. Second-best was on Martha's Vineyard. Jose was friendly attentive and humorous. I would highly recommend the gin bar and especially Jose. He made our weekend.

The room was really good. Well functioning toilet (no clogging) first class shower (no flooding) and the heating really powerful despite sub-zero (Centigrade) temperatures (n.b. one could fine-tuning the heating). Bell-service (Richard but others too) quite efficient without exerting pressure for tips. Breakfast was interesting too. Tables might not have been very-very clean everyday but the cooks did not cook...

I come to NYC on business every week, and ever since the NYC Barclay reopened, I've been staying here--just as I always used to before they closed to remodel. The place is amazing--great, clean rooms, with good views. But what I really love about the remodel is the Gin Parlour, which isn't just a great place to get a drink...

We planned a last birthday minute trip to the city and naturally had to stay at our favorite hotel, the Intercontinental Barclay. We hadn't had a chance to visit since the renovations and I must say the hotel looks amazing! No visit would be complete without visiting the Head Bartender, Jose Torrella, at the beautiful new Gin Parlour - now...

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Since first opening its doors in 1926, the InterContinental New York Barclay has welcomed countless guests to enjoy a luxurious residential-style experience in the heart of the city. Originally constructed as part of the Grand Central Terminal expansion, The Barclay became one of four notable railroad hotels built to service the well-heeled men and women travelling to New York City. Its convenient location, directly above the railroad tracks, permitted the hotel the unique distinction of having its own platform in the basement, ideal for the upscale rail traveler who occasionally arrived by private train car. In addition to its Midtown East location, the hotel made an immediate impact with tenants and critics alike for its characteristic atmosphere of comfort and elegant domesticity. From that moment, The Barclay began to write its history as the hotel of choice for those looking to take respite in this stately residential hotel of international prestige. Today, the InterContinental New York Barclay remains Manhattan’s preeminent luxury hotel after undergoing the most ambitious restoration in its history. Combining sophistication and contemporary design, while staying true to its original Federalist style details, The Barclay exudes confidence and warmth, delivering the same residential feel with modern comfort and flexibility introduced to the world in 1926. ... more   less
