Great location, bar is always humming. Rooms are excellent. I've never had one negative experience except for the evening it was jam packed and I was confused what was going on. The check in desk is always polite, the servers very attentive. This is great value!

I arrived at the InterContinental New York Barclay on December 23rd at 4pm for 4 nights. Check-in was quick, friendly and I got a very nice room. As I had requested, they gave me a room on a higher floor, the 15th floor (room 1544). The room had a good view of Lexington Avenue with an art deco building in...

Summary: after hours of reading review of Manhattan hotels, I went with the Intercontinental Barclay. My family thoroughly enjoyed it and I won't hesitate to make it my go-to place on NYC trips. 1. Great room service food. The first night we arrived late due to air traffic congestion at Newark. By the time we got to our rooms, it...

I have been staying at a few different InterContinental properties over the world, the one at the Barclay, like the others, shares some similar attributes like the tan color palette with a shot of vibrant yellow. The room is not bad, very comfortable and the bathroom is spacious along with its high-quality amenities (love their lotion). But if I have...

Nothing negative to say. Rooms were amazing. Location is amazing. Staff was incredibly friendly. Can't wait to return to this hotel. The maids did a great job and I loved the heated bathroom floors. 5/5!!

Lovely hotel in a great location. Was a bit miffed that wifi was fifteen dollars a night but it was optional and we didn't bother as we were out and about. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The concierge sorted us out with printing boarding passes for our onward flight. Would definitely recommend.

My other half and I had taken my Mum to NY for a long weekend so had spent a fair amount of time researching hotels. We wanted something which was relatively well known and storied and The Barclay seemed to fit the bill. It’s been in operation for some time but has been well refurbished, it’s had a long list...

Visited this hotel in May 2017 for a few days whilst doing the tourist stuff. Staff okay, helpful in that American way, booked in without any problems. Room was on the seventh floor, was clean and comfortable. Walls a little thin but our neighbours weren't noisy. Disappointing that the wifi isn't free, I mean what hotel chooses to fleece you...

After few years of extensive renovations and facelifts I returned to the hotel to find an alien lobby with the front desk and temporary club Intercontinental situated up a ramp.No warm welcome as in the past and few if any of the staff I had known for many years here now are impeccably dressed young ladies in black and high...

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Since first opening its doors in 1926, the InterContinental New York Barclay has welcomed countless guests to enjoy a luxurious residential-style experience in the heart of the city. Originally constructed as part of the Grand Central Terminal expansion, The Barclay became one of four notable railroad hotels built to service the well-heeled men and women travelling to New York City. Its convenient location, directly above the railroad tracks, permitted the hotel the unique distinction of having its own platform in the basement, ideal for the upscale rail traveler who occasionally arrived by private train car. In addition to its Midtown East location, the hotel made an immediate impact with tenants and critics alike for its characteristic atmosphere of comfort and elegant domesticity. From that moment, The Barclay began to write its history as the hotel of choice for those looking to take respite in this stately residential hotel of international prestige. Today, the InterContinental New York Barclay remains Manhattan’s preeminent luxury hotel after undergoing the most ambitious restoration in its history. Combining sophistication and contemporary design, while staying true to its original Federalist style details, The Barclay exudes confidence and warmth, delivering the same residential feel with modern comfort and flexibility introduced to the world in 1926. ... more   less
