This is my first Trip Advisor review--ever--but I was so saddened at how far the once great Carlyle has fallen, that I felt I had to write. I am a New Yorker, living in Hong Kong and I was really looking forward to my third stay (in the past under my husband's name) at the iconic hotel. My first night,...

Dear kbx2016, Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience with us. We are so sorry to hear that your time at Bemelmans bar was such a disappointment. Of course we would hope that none of our guests would ever leave feeling this way. While we do charge a cover fee only when the Jazz Trio is...

A delight to stay in a place with such memories and ambiance. WHile this is charming a plenty in too many details to count, it also comes with its age that takes away from the daily comfort one is expected. Above all the staff, concierge and service are top notch.

Its classic charm and history is what allured me to The Carlyle, not to mention that its a "5 star" luxury hotel. I expected great service and an updated room and thats not what I experienced. Most of the paintings and mirrors on the walls in my room were crooked upon checking in. Some areas in my room had not...

Dear Denise, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and feedback on your recent stay with us. Eight nights in this iconic hotel. Yes, the elevators are slow, the airconditioning noisy, the furniture worn but there is plenty of what other hotels lack so badly: sophistication, atmosphere, a real home away from home, a human touch to everything, old fashioned hospitality with an utterly professional staff, Away from the crowds in a pleasant residential area but within...

We spend 7 days at the Carlyle. We have been going there for plus 30 years. Everything perfect and when something is not, they deliver inmidiately. Only sad issue: Dwight, our concierge, retired. But that is life. His succesors are as efficient as he was.

I should have known something was up when we checked in and they said, "So, this is your first stay with us." Ah NO...this WAS our go-to hotel when in NYC and we've stayed there many, many times. Something has really changed for the bad at the historic and stately Carlyle. Elevator buttons that don't work (which would be OK...

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighbourhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighbourhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
