The Knickerbocker, a member of Leading Hotels of the World, reopened its doors in February 2015 as the only Five-Star hotel in Times Square, after completing an expansive $250 million renovation by acclaimed interior designers Gabellini Sheppard. The Beaux Arts monument to New York's coming of age is situated at the southeast corner of 42nd Street between Broadway and Bryant Park. The hotel originally opened in 1906 by John Jacob Astor IV and welcomed both glitterati and dignitaries including such notables as Enrico Caruso, John D Rockefeller and F. Scott Fitzgerald. A New York City landmark, The Knickerbocker boasts 330 guest rooms including 31 suites; a signature restaurant and bar, Charlie Palmer Steak IV; St. Cloud-a 7,800-square-foot rooftop bar; a 2,200-square-foot event space for up to 160 guests; a ground level café, Jake's; and a state-of-the art fitness center.

The Knickerbacker, nestled near Times Square, is frequently lauded for its remarkably quiet ambiance, particularly on upper floors, and the high cleanliness standards maintained throughout. Guests appreciate the modern and stylish atmosphere and the service, often described as professional and attentive, although some have experienced delays with elevators and room service.
While the amenities are generally praised, the lack of in-room coffee facilities has been noted. Despite its prime location and comfortable rooms, the hotel's value for money is sometimes questioned due to high charges and additional fees.

Detailed Reviews
We had a nice stay here in January. We booked a double superior room and upon arrival were advised we had been upgraded to a King size and a street view for which we were appreciative. The room was very nice and cosy quite roomy with a king size bed and sofa and desk. The wardrobe was ok but only a few hangers for your clothes. There was a mini bar but we would have preferred a tea/coffee making facility as it was very cold when we visited. The hotel lighting is generally quite dim which I suppose is about creating ambience. Normally 5 star is earned due to facilities provided and this hotel didn't really have much in the way of facilities. One day we opted for the buffet breakfast which was pretty disappointing very limited choice and we had to keep asking for tea/coffee and it was $92 plus tip plus tax for 2 people.....so don't recommend the breakfast. There was a little cafe attached for coffee and pastries but it had limited opening hours and was pretty basic. We loved the location it was at the heart of everything and if location is vital then this is fab. We enjoyed our hotel stay but really it isn't 5 star or wouldn't be by UK standards and it was uber expensive for what was on offer. Also be aware of the $40 per night resort tax (apparently for Wifi shoe shine (we never saw) and coffee between 5 and 7am which we never saw......if it was a true 5 star hotel these facilities would be included. Not sure if I would stay again purely based upon costs. I think this hotel is more geared for the corporate traveller. When we were checking out they had an issue finding our luggage so our car had to wait an extra 20 mins which racked up additional costs for us.

The hotel it self is pretty impressive on the outside , an old building I the middle of a very modern Times Square. Enter the building and it couldn’t be more the opposite. Modern with very modern music pumping through the foyer. The doormen were mostly great. A few younger ones who are little more distracted but if I did their job I’d probably be the same! Room service was mostly ok: the food wasn’t as good quality as the restaurant. One day we accidentally put privacy switch on so it didn’t get cleaned. When we rang to explain this to the reception and ask if we could get our 2xdaily water and some more toilet paper as it wasn’t given because we didn’t get the room cleaned it took about 30 minutes and we were charged for it which I think was pretty unfair. Hotel has a cafe which could do with a change, it’s not the most inviting. But the hotel was pretty great , rooftop bar so good and service great! Recommend this hotel !

Had a wonderful stay at the hotel. When I arrived I got a complementary upgrade to a suite. The accommodation was great; bed was really comfy; suite was huge and hotel staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant food was good and the hostess (when she finally arrived at the table) was really helpful and knowledgeable. Only complaint was how long we were left sitting waiting for someone to acknowledge us or take our order. Surprisingly there was no coffee machine in the suite (which I found odd for a hotel of this calibre) but it was provided on request free of charge. Was able to check out and leave my luggage to collect later in the day which was also really helpful. I was particularly surprised at how quiet it was given the location - the soundproofing and blackout blinds really work! Can't comment on value as it was a business trip but would recommend if budget isn't your top priority.

+1
I booked the hotel for my fiance's 30th birthday. Upon checking in the lady told us that we had been given a complimentary upgrade, which we thought was lovely, and possibly because of his birthday. We then got to the room, it was filthy. The carpets stained with tea, damaged windowsill, the carpet outside our door was lifting and a major trip hazard especially as our room was right next to the lifts, and there was tea spillages on the bedside units.
Being my usual polite self I didn't want to moan or draw attention to it and for my fiance to be more irritated by it than he already was so we unpacked and headed out for our day and just put up with it. After walking all day, while pregnant it became clear having a bath in the room would have been a huge benefit for me as my back, ankles etc were all aching. My fiance kindly asked reception if we could possibly move to a room with a bath - they pointed our we had been upgraded for free already and that there were unfortunately no rooms with baths available, even if we downgraded. Fine, I can live with it as we hadn't originally requested it. We then went to check out at 4am in the morning when we left and the bill had an upgraded room charge on it totalling over $150 for our stay! When I questioned the man at the desk he simply kept telling me it wasn't free and he doesn't know who told us it was. We didn't have time to argue or we would have missed our flight so I took the bill and told him I would send an email when I got home. We have now been home for over 2 weeks, I sent an email as soon as I got home and have since been pushed from one person to the next with a promise of being responded too with no luck, my card has been charged for the upgrade and I have still not been able to have a proper conversation to resolve the matter with any member of staff.
I am so disappointed, the hotel was so dingy, dated, it smelt stale, the room was filthy and nothing like the brightly lit clean photos they have online and now this - i am always so cautious when booking hotels, read all reviews etc and am gutted this hotel didn't live up to what i was expecting. I never write reviews but do yourselves a favour and don't book this hotel if you want somewhere nice to stay in New York.

Stayed at the Knickerbocker Hotel for 4 nights, traveling as a family with a 14 year old daughter. Booked a Premium Room with 2 Queen Beds, and was kindly upgraded. Room was spacious enough for the 3 of us, on level 5, with good sound-proofing and Black-Out blind to separate us from the hustle of neighbour Times Square. Coffee and a pastry each morning from Jakes downstairs was included and was a good easy start to the day, and made up for no in-room coffee making facilities. Nice selection of toiletries, replenished daily.
Very helpful Door staff and concierge, whom I also made contact with before arrival to check if Under 21s could access the Rooftop Bar (which they can). St Cloud is great space, and beautiful even in sub zero temperatures! Slightly underwhelming check in/out in terms of location and space, but staff were very helpful and friendly.
Interesting history to the building itself and it is in a fantastic location. I hope to return. Thank you to all staff.

Stayed here multiple times & the service is always amazing! The rooms are so soundproof with blackout blinds that it makes NYC seem quiet! The rooftop bar tops it off...while drinks are a bit pricey even for NYC standards the bartenders make it worth it for at least a couple. Enayet was absolutely wonderful! Great conversation, amazing mixologist & truly entertaining! I would stop in purely to have a handcrafted cocktail from him!

The hotel responded fast to a in-house online survey which I took indicating that there were no kettle nor coffee making facility despite having 2 packs of coffee in the room. Was told that the facility is given only upon request which some foreign guests may not be comfortable doing so.
The housekeeping was not consistent. 1st day there were no bottle water provided (which we had to request), but was given on the 2nd day of our stay. On the 1st day, the bath amenities were also not given new ones but merely topped up the used shower gel, shampoo and conditioner.
The room is not very big, 1 king size bed and the area between the bed and the counter is only big enough for one person to walk through.
Room comes with safe, fridge with soda, liquors and beers. Cable TV available with on-demand channels. Power points are available almost every corner with USB charging ports at both sides of the bed.
The shower head holder in our room is loose and the other holder which is higher up on the wall cannot be reached by my wife. There were just too many things that we have unloaded before we noticed this issue so we just make do without requesting to change room.
The bed is a tad soft and the pillows are too soft to my liking.
The door man and the bell guys are friendly and accommodating.

This hotel is in a really good location if you like exploring by foot as you're close to several big tourist attractions. The staff were friendly and helpful (the gentleman who took my case to my room was particularly attentive and welcoming) and the facilities were also very nice. The bedroom was large (I stayed in a superior king) with a lovely separate shower room. The cafe on the ground floor is ideal for a quick breakfast take-away, I didn't eat in the restaurant but drinks on the rooftop bar were fantastic.

The following are the issues we had w/ the Knickerbocker.
1. After we checked in, and went to our room, we saw two large stains on the pull-out. I’m not saying that they weren’t clean, but the stains were noticeable, large and a little concerning. I went to the “check in people” and told them about it.
2. After our first night, we were out of the room from early in the morning and returned about 3:30 – 4pm. When we got back the room had not been cleaned. I tried to call “guest services” and the phone just rang and rang. So I went down to the 1st floor and met w/ the manager. He was nice, but not very helpful. Someone did come up about 30 min later, but my family was preparing to go out for the evening, so really all that could be done was a changing of the towels and garbage.
3. I would say that it was a 50/50 chance that I could get somebody to answer the “guest services” phone. Which means I had to go down to the first floor to get a response to my family’s questions.
4. Upon trying to check out, I again called guest services to get a luggage transporter (not sure what it’s called), and nobody answered. I went to the 1st floor to get one myself. There were several unattended so I grabbed one and went to the elevator. While in the elevator I was grabbed by a hotel employee, told I couldn’t use the transporter, and an altercation ensued. The employee said to me, as he was forcibly taking it from me, that I couldn’t use it (but not saying why), and we were being taped.
5. The hotel room and floors were a little old and tired, which I don’t mind, but they were also not clean.
In closing, there are many wonderful hotels in NYC and Times Square, the Knickenbocker (in our opinion) is not one of them.
We spent well over $600/night, which is not a problem, but NOT for the service or accommodations that we experienced at your hotel.

Good location and nice rooms , no service at all. Hotel could be very nice due to location and building but who pays 300+ expects the service to be responsive . Is not the case in hotel where whatever you ask by phone , you get the answer that will happens immediately but in reality never happens …. Even basic things like towels for shower can take more than 12 h . Quality of hotel is m assured by level of service and its very niceties send SMS to clients asking if everything ok , but would be much nicer that thinngs really were at minimum level
