I will preface this with the statement that I did not expect to stay in this hotel. To find a bargain on a JW Marriott property was unexpected at the least, but apparently they happen regularly at certain times of the year. That said, regardless of cost, this hotel is phenomenal!! From the moment we arrived we are consistently met...

This hotel's web site is a... sham. First, they web site sells you the idea of "Quiet Luxury" on Central Park. I dont know what part of the luxury they forgot to mention: the stained carpets, the chipped and runned down furniture, the bed linen with holes on it. On top of that, the web site is deceptive, because it...

Just returned from a weekend trip to New York for the Opera and some dining and shopping. The Marriott Essex House is a Grand Older Hotel that has been updated and renovated by Marriott. What made this stay more enjoyable was the absolute enthusiasm and good will from the staff- everyone we encountered between the front desk, the security staff...

my wife and i returned to New York for another week of opera immersion. the hotel is convenient for that. Our room had been refurbished since the last visit - very good, light and comfortable. Food excellent - but also close to alternatives if you want. Staff helpful and approachable. Wi-fi in public areas free and efficient.

We booked into the JW Marriott Essex House because it was close to where we needed to be and the price was reasonable for a JW property in midtown Manhattan. While it might be a grand old hotel, it does not meet the standard of a JW Marriott. We checked in and as a Lifetime Platinum Rewards member, expected a...

We took our granddaughters for the first visit to NYC--at Christmas time, no less, and this was a great place to stay. It's convenient for walking to many places and doesn't take long by cab, either. The 57th st subway station is just steps away. We all agreed our room itself was great, but we did think the bathroom quality...

This hotel is getting ready for an upgrade. That's what i was told by the bellman on the way into my room. He wasn't kidding that it needed it. It's overdue for a real makeover. This isn't the quality one would expect from a JW Mariott, especially at that location. My room was fine and clean, but looked like it...

Omg stayed at this hotel on New years eve 2013, boy was it a zoo people were everywhere trying to check in and get to time square for the wait. The ladies and gentlemen at the front desk handed things admirably. We asked if we could be upgraded to a park view but it wasnt avaliable not big deal I...

Amazing location, great restaurant and bar area. Concierge could not have been more helpful to me, I dealt with them almost daily! I stayed here for a week over New Years and highly recommend this place, although next time I will ensure I have a room much higher up! I had specified "central park view" however from level 5 I...

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
