My friend and I stayed in a studio apartment, with a queen size bed and a very nice kitchen (w/ a full size refrigerator). The bed and pillows were comfortable, the room had very good storage, and the bathroom was well equipped. The stay includes a continental breakfast on weekdays. Service was friendly. The location is about a 5-10 minute...

Stayed for a week with my Mom on a shopping trip. The friendliest staff, so helpful and accommodating. Great room, lovely choices at breakfast. Good location 10min from subway station. Enjoyed morning yoga class included in room rate 😀 Thanks everyone.

We had the two bedroom apartment Rama. Both the booking and subsequent changes enforced by inclement weather at our departure point were handled very professionally & sympathetically. The location on the LES, Lower East Side, was excellent. It is in a neighbourhood area rather than glitzy hotels & shops. Great food on your doorstep with Clinton Street Bakery, Katz Deli...

Second stay with Sanctuary. Service - Friendly & Attentive! Room - It's an appartment! Clean, warm decor, AC, and kitchen equipt with everything you need. Location - LES old architecture is charming and it couldn't get more central, everything is walking distance, subway, grocery, bars, many restaurants, SOHO. Nice to come back to after sight seeing or bustling around. Super...

This is not a hotel. These are very comfy apartments that sit over a yoga studio. First, I loved it for the amount of space. They are not your typical hotel room. It's warm and cozy, and not cookie cutter. If you like the "hotel" experience this is not for you. But if you like a more "local" type of...

We were 3 days in New York and I can really recommend this hotel. We were 3 people and had a very fresh, nice and large room and the location were perfect. The neighborhood was quiet and the staff was very nice and helpful. Too bad we didn´t get the opportunity to be on a yoga lesson. The breakfast was...

I loved staying at Sanctuary NYC Retreats - the friendly staff, location and 'feels like home' atmosphere. Easy access to anything and most everything that you want to do and see while in NYC - train station near by - walking to cafe's, coffee shops, diners and restaurants. Morning eats during the weekdays for a quick grad and go to...

This is a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of NYC. The rooms are comfortable and there is a kitchen available to use. The only thing asked is that meat is not prepared. The area is quiet with a number of small local food markets close by. Staff were helpful and even stayed past leaving time...

Booked this accommodation after much searching and while quite expensive, it was absolutely worth it. We booked the Rama suite which ended up having a lovely patio and full kitchen which meant we were able to cook our dinners and eat outside. Beds very comfortable. All rooms come with breakfast which is simple and nutritious and you get to chat...

I stayed with four friends in the RamaJ. Maybe a little bit worn. And quite cramped if you share it with four grownups, as I did. But on the other hand - decent cost per person for a Manhattan hotel. Comfortable beds and a nice kitchen. Friendly staff. Breakfast ist served Mon - Fri. It´s very basic BUT hey! they...

Staying in Lower East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Lower East Side
Straddling the bridge between New York’s thriving immigrant past and its modern transformation into a beacon of global art and culture, the Lower East Side is one of the most dynamic neighbourhoods in the city. The blocks of tenements that represented the promise and blight of the Lower East Side immigrant experience now command top dollar for new residents. Right next to old-world delis, 24-hour bodegas, and the garment shops of Orchard Street, you’ll find hip clubs, fashionable bistros, and luxury hotels beckoning at all hours of the evening. If you love nightlife and live music, it’s hard to beat the scene here.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Sanctuary NYC Retreats was established by a group of health, eco, and spiritually conscientious travelers. They came together with two ideas in mind: To provide other travelers with a peaceful, retreat-like stay in NYC and to create an opportunity to give back to our community. Each suite at Sanctuary features a fully equipped kitchen and a flat-screen cable TV. The suites are decorated in warm colors and Indian folk art. Select rooms have a sofa bed and private patio. Complimentary continental breakfast is offered Monday-Friday only. The Lower East Side is the oldest neighborhood in New York City and presently one of the most fashionable in Manhattan. Once the home for working-class European immigrants, the LES has become one of the trendiest areas in the city full of cool boutique hotels, bars, restaurants, yoga studios, fashion stores, health food stores, art galleries and live music venues. Iconic artists like Marlon Brando, Robert DeNiro, Lou Reed and Leonard Cohen used to live on our street and countless movies and TV shows are filmed around throughout the year. Just blocks away is the Delancey/Essex Subway Station and a quick train ride to Midtown (Union Square, Flatiron District, Empire State Building, Times Square and Central Park) or Brooklyn (Williamsburg, DUMBO). A few minutes walking and you can be anywhere Downtown: East Village, SoHo, West Village, Little Italy, Chinatown and East River Park. ... more   less
