1871 House is a unique place to stay in a great part of the city. Conveniently located near two subway stops and close to Central Park. We felt very safe in the area at all times of the day. We stayed in the Garden Room and loved it. The garden terrace is incredible. It was cold and rainy when we...

This is our third stay at 1871 House Rear Library Suite and we have always enjoyed our stay. Be prepared to schlep your bag up two or more flights of narrow curving stairs. There is a comfortable Queen bed and a not so comfortable day bed ( I would suggest replacing that mattress), the water pressure in the shower and...

So close to the subway, a walk to the Met and Carnegie Hall, sweet homey details and comfortable beds! Really nice to have a small kitchen and the shower was excellent! Friendly easy going office staff! We stayed in the Lexington suite which gave personal space to my 3 kids. Cost was significant for us but that is Manhattan pricing...

Perfect for a Manhattan visit- Nice rooms, friendly atmosphere, close to everything. Central Park just 2-3 blocks away. Walking distance to Empire State Building and other famous landmarks. Lots of shopping possibilities nearby. Bloomingdales 3 blocks from 1871 House. When we return we will no doubt stay at the 1872 House

Delightful accommodations for people who love old architecture. The staff was pleasant and helpful. Great location near everything! We definitely plan to return and have already recommended the 1871 House to family and friends who plan to visit NYC.

The owners of 1871 House have created such a lovely respite away from the city and the cares of the world! I have previously stayed here and just stayed for nearly a month and felt so lucky that this haven could serve as my home base in New York. It is like staying in someone's beautiful country home and you...

Thank you. It means so much to us that you felt like you could get away from the city while still in the city. That's precisely what we've been striving for, and when it lands with our guests, that's what makes it all worth while for us :) You were an absolute DELIGHT to have this past month, all of...

We had an amazing time in NYC in part because of the tremendous location and hospitality of the 1871 House. We don't visit NY often and had some concerns about the safety of the area, parking, and other guests of the hotel. The area was very safe. We were not at all worried about allowing our teenagers to come and...

We had the Parlor Room up one flight of stairs. The room itself was good and quite spacious, with comfortable bed, wardrobe, bath, shower and sofa. The window overlooks the street but it is quite a quiet street and we were not bothered by noise. We arrived after hours and instructions for entry were very good. Staff were helpful and...

Hello! Thank you so much for the kind words! We're so happy that you were able to feel at ease with us on the Upper East Side. Having two teenage daughters ourselves, we're grateful for the safe and quite environment our little nook in the city provides. We appreciate you choosing us for one of your rare visits to the...

We planned a last minute trip to NYC with our 20-yr-old daughter, and I was pleasantly surprised that there was a suite available when I called only about ten days before our stay. Years ago, I stayed at the 1871 House with some girlfriends, and it was a great place for us then, so it came to mind first thing...

We enjoyed staying at the 1871 house. The room was clean, roomy, comfortable, and well furnished in a way that gave the room character. The owner warned that the bathroom was older and small, so we were ready for that. The location is terrific. But it's not so convenient to stay here. Check in/out times are limited. Short stays must...

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighbourhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighbourhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
