I stayed at the Jane Hotel in mid-May 2013. I was very pleased with my stay there. My two main criteria when looking for a hotel in New York were price and location. The Jane delivers on both. The Jane is located right in the Meat Packing District. It’s a 5 minute walk away from Greenwich Village, and 10-15 minutes...

The room was tiny but big if you were a tall ship sailor. The ship like cabin was cosy, adequate, clean, quiet and cleverly laid out. It had all the bells and whistles of a regular hotel room except for a shower/bath room. The latter was offered just down the hall, and was sparkling clean. The check in staff was...

I found the room and communal baths spotless. If you want an affordable, safe place to crash (or catch a disco nap) then I recommend it. I would not attempt to stay here with my family. The vibe is young-ish, budget jetset. The cafe downstairs was excellent. Great staff that made me feel welcome even though I am clearly not...

Finding somewhere reasonably priced to stay in Manhattan that isn't depressing is very difficult but The Jane provides a solution. Located in the West Village, it is close to the bars of Christopher St, adjacent to the Hudson river, and the area is completely non-threatening. The rooms really are tiny but they are well-fitted out and the shared bathrooms are...

WORST. NIGHT. EVER. Came back from a lovely dinner in Chelsea to this West Village Hotel and as I was getting into bed spotted a fat, blood-filled bedbug under the pillow. Smushed it and recoiled in horror. Thence began the five-hour saga in which hotel staff basically stripped me, asked me to take a shower, put me in another room,...

Thanks for writing. I'm so sorry to hear that this happened during your stay. Bed bugs are an unfortunately wide-spread problem in New York City. Our staff is trained on how to treat them should they enter the building, as you have seen. We take every precaution to ensure that this does not happen on our property. I'm sorry you...

I would have given this place four stars, but for disappointing and frankly incorrect advice regarding a taxi booked by reception, which in any event failed to turn up. Be aware that, contrary to their advice, it is now fixed fare in a yellow cab for the return journey to JFK, as well as the inbound journey. This place is...

Thanks for writing. We're glad you enjoyed the character and location of the hotel. I apologize you ran into some confusion regarding transportation to the airport. I've stayed here many times and been pleased with it. There are quite a new faces in the lobby and at reception... and not as friendly as the previous staff. $325 before taxes is veering towards to low value for money. As the Jane was fully booked, I stayed at The Maritime for my last 2 nights and it was...

I stayed here for three nights in May... I'd previously been staying at the Wellington near Times Square (on business) which was fantastic in terms of location but very dated as a hotel. The Jane is in a great location, nice staff, good bar and cafe, but if you intend on getting some sleep, take earplugs! The room doors in the hallway open and close all night, the frequency of this increasing due to shared bathrooms. Also because there are so many doors in the hallway (due to tiny rooms) it seems worse.

Staying in West Village

Neighbourhood Profile
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighbourhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.
