So this hotel has, apparently, budget rooms that are quite satisfactory, but we always stay in the Captain's rooms, which are really quite wonderful. Our first visit we actually had a view, through the bay windows, of the Statue of Liberty! The bedding is wonderful, the bathroom is really nice. This past visit was our third time staying, and it...

This is a difficult place to review. First of all, agree with other reviewers: the size of the rooms is part of the package and they don't try to hide it. The place was built as accommodation for sailors and apparently designed to mimic an ocean liner (although you would imagine that was the last thing a sailor would want)....

This is a great budget choice. The location, just a block from the beginning of the High Line, is excellent. Before you book you should know that the rooms are small. Tiny. Minuscule. Even for Manhattan. I stayed in a bunk bed room with shared bathroom and really, this is not a place you want to hang out and relax....

Don't mind the smoke in the hallways... Rooms are really small but clean. Share bathrooms are clean as well. About 7 blocks from the nearest subway. Not noisy at all and the neighbourhood is not bad at all. I won't mind staying here again if I am on a budget.

From my first interaction with the Jane 6 months before my trip I was very impressed. The staff were happy for me to have a parcel delivered to the front desk and when I arrived I felt welcome especially as a solo female traveller in a new country! I loved the bell-hop uniform of the staff and the old-fashioned style...

I stayed at the Jane hotel in Oct 13 and it was a terrible hotel. The staff weren't friendly at all and the rooms were tiny, I really do mean tiny. Only one person could get changed at a time while the other sat on the bed then we would have to change to allow the other to get ready....

I'll start with the bad points, just to get them out of the way: the rooms are very small. As in, 'can't open your suitcase' small. That being said, The Jane is in a great location, the shared bathroom was spotlessly clean, the robes and towels smelled fresh and the staff were friendly and helpful.

Listen. It's NY, baby. And hotel prices are sky high or very mundane, and possibly bed-bug ridden. Instead, try a period-piece, boutique hotel-type fun center minutes from the High Line and all else hip and happening in the city that never sleeps. To boot: $99/night! Ok, the rooms are tiny - and I mean it at about 7 ft x...

Just spent a week in what was probably the most interesting hotel I have ever visited. Yes, the room was small but they tell you that up front. Yes, the bathrooms are shared for some of the rooms but they disclose that, also. And, said bathrooms were always spotless - seldom was there even anyone else in the bathroom even...

Staying in West Village

Neighbourhood Profile
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighbourhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.
