The Holiday Inn Express New York City Times Square generally garners commendation for its spotless rooms, though the housekeeping's punctuality occasionally falls under scrutiny. While the hotel's location near Times Square is a highlight for guests, its value proposition is often questioned due to high rates and basic amenities. Accommodations elicit mixed reactions, with some visitors appreciating the views and cleanliness but others finding the rooms outdated and cramped.
The complimentary offerings are a plus, yet the breakfast area's size receives mixed feedback. Service quality varies, ranging from warm and welcoming to instances of inefficiency and rudeness.

Hotel's Favourite
The hotel was very good and the location is excellent! The breakfast was good and the were good options. The receptionist Alex Rodriguez was very kind and servicial, he did his best effort to speak with us in Spanish. I hope to come back soon and obviously stay in this hotel.

Just came back from a solid trip to New York and stayed at this hotel for four nights.
Positives -
Unlimited tea and coffee downstairs
Decent enough breakfast as part of the hotel
Really friendly chef who is around in the mornings, brilliant customer service, takes the time to say hello to everyone and chat.
Coffee machine in the room
Maids did a good job of cleaning room
Front desk was always manned and could answer any question I had.
Good choice of television shows in room
Good wifi
Negatives -
Unbelievably poor higher management. I recieved an email telling me I needed to pay 250 deposit for my stay and a destination fee. After several attempts of contact I was ignored.
When arriving it turned into just a 50 dollar deposit, with an unsure answer on when I would receive the money back.
When offering to pay with cash was told I needed a credit card. Offered to pay by debit card and was told no. To only then be told ten minutes later I could pay by debit card. So confusing.
The lifts during the times the maids are cleaning are very annoying to use, it can take up to 15 mins to get your lift down.
Door card stopped working on several occasions meaning I had to go all the way down to get it sorted on each occasion

Upon arrival we were slightly early for check in but there was a very lovely man on reception who said that we could check in early. We were given a room on the 23rd floor. The room was TINY. There were 3 adults staying in the room and we were often on top of each other.
Within the room there was a coffee machine which was OK. Would rather have had a kettle personally, however. There is a huge amount of waste in this hotel as they provide paper cups throughout, as well as paper plates for breakfast which I think is a bit lazy and really unnecessary. The room was VERY poorly lit. The beds are quite small but not uncomfortable. There was no view from our room, but can't say we really expected one.
The lifts, as many people comment on, are a bit of a pain. I dread to think what they would be like in peak season. One morning we waited 15 minutes for a lift. When one did arrive it had the cleaners in it who turned out the lights and told us to get another lift. We eventually gave up and walked down the stairs.
The day we were due to check out, I called down to reception to ask if we could keep the room a little later and was told we could have it an extra hour (no charge). Amazing. When we went down to check out we asked to leave our cases with them. The bellboy was so unbelievably rude. Rolling his eyes at us and tutting. NO TIP to him. So rude.
Breakfast is set out in a really tiny, cramped space and felt a bit like a school canteen. No outside windows. Was very disappointing.
Location wise - you're a couple of blocks from Times Square which is great but at night the outside of the hotel did feel pretty intimidating and not particularly safe.

We booked a couple of rooms here. Got off to an eye-rolling start in both rooms as one had a faulty safe and the other had a faulty smoke detector - both problems were fixed in a matter of minutes thanks to the maintanence guys being on the ball.
We got a decent rate so weren't expecting The Raffles in Singapore or anything but it had what we needed. Housekeeping did a great job, the rooms were comfy, the elevators were pretty quick. The breakfast staff did a good job and there was a decent enough variety of food: fruit, cereals, yoghurts, toast, eggs, sausages, cakes and some weird, shiny circular baked things?
FYI. Hot tea is always available downstairs. They will store your luggage upon check-out. A small shop in the lobby sells nibbles etc. The young lady on reception is cute.
Would happily stay again.

I was looking forward to my trip to NYC and staying at this Hotel. Unfortunately, the work conference I was planning on attending was cancelled due to the Coronavirus. When I called this hotel to cancel my reservations, 20 days before the planned stay, I was told I could not get a refund. On the hotel website, they stated that their main concern is the well being of their customers, I feel that they are more concerned with the money they would lose rather than the lives that could potentially be lost due to the spread of the virus! They also have posted on their website that if people are travelling from out of the country, they will be fully refunded, too bad they are not as concerned for the citizens travelling in the USA!

I stayed here for 4 nights and it was good. Breakfast was good, hotel staff was helpful. There is additional destination fee of $20 plus tax per day, I guess this covers Free WiFi and Free breakfast.
There are only 2 elevators so be patient or ready to take stairs. I heard some banging sounds coming from the elevator shaft. If your room is right next to elevator, the noise will bother you.
You will not have much view even if you book a city view room.
Book a standard room at lower level and save your money and time.

I liked this hotel. It's Times Square area so for around $200 a night you really can't expect anything better. Yes, tthe elevators are sometimes slow and the rooms are small, but that's pretty standard in that area. I liked that the room was clean, quiet, comfortable, and well appointed. In-room coffee in mid-town was a plus and I enjoyed plenty of choices at the complimentary (also rare) breakfast. Front desk staff was friendly and helpful. Close to everything. I would not hesitate to stay here again!

Had to change rooms because the tub was broken. The tub in the second room was also broken and the top lock was missing. That was a safety issue I truly did not appreciate. On top of that the parking garage I was sent to did not want to validate my car after checkout. The hotel staff apologized for that and said they were going to waive the parking fee but they haven't yet. The issue is: the hotel charged $45 for parking but the garage wanted over $100 for the one night we stayed. My traveling companions were left very disappointed with our stay and we won't be returning to this establishment.
The extra star is because the beds were comfy, the floors were quiet, and the added security (needing your room key to access the elevator) was appreciated.

I hate complaining and don’t expect much, but I pushed the nightstand out a bit so I could access the wall outlet to plug in my phone charger, and found an old Lindt candy wrapper and a plastic wrapper...along with dust bunnies. There was also a signifanct amount of dust around the edges of the lamp shade that is attached to the headboard. I didn’t dare look under the bed as my friend and I were exhausted and needed to be up and checked out of the hotel by 5am. The bathroom sink filled up with water and took forever to go down the drain, and around the drain it was evident it wasn’t cleaned properly.
Thankfully we have an Airbnb for the rest of our time in NYC, which sadly is way cleaner and worth the money. My friend is having surgery today, so we thought staying at the Holiday Inn Express would be closer (which it was) and the hotel name is one I’ve come to know and trust, versus a random hotel in the city. Now I think I should have taken my chances are a much cheaper room.
Also disappointed that there wasn’t a mini fridge or microwave in room—at very least, a mini fridge should be a staple item in the room. Hard to eat out in the city and have left overs that end up needing to be thrown out.
Last but not least, the “destination fee” on top of an already over-priced, tiny room is outrageous.
Will find a different place to stay in the future.

Hands down the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. I choose it for the location and price. I had very, very low expectations of which the hotel managed to exceed. The common areas are filthy. The elevator and hallways were never vacuumed in the 5 days I was there. I kept hoping “maybe today is the day”. The only time my room was cleaned was the day before I checked out. I was usually gone by noon everyday so couldn’t figure that one our. I really don’t require daily housekeeping service when I travel but at least refresh the room a bit and take out the garbage. The staff broke the cardinal rule in the service industry and that is “the customer is always right”. Upon check in I pointed out that the safe in my room wasn’t working to the front desk only to be told “Are you sure?” That’s right, I’m an idiot cause I can’t program a hotel safe. There is no variety of choice for breakfast. Everyday it was either scrambled eggs or “cheese” omelettes, sausages, oatmeal, apples and bananas. That’s it. Maybe they’re not used to multi night stays. I had better food and service at the Pret a Manger on the corner and I was certainly hungry cause you have to run the gauntlet of pot smokers hanging around the front door everyday. When I checked out the clerk said “You’re all set”. When I asked for a copy of my bill they actually said “Seriously?” like it was a problem to print a bill. The shelf above the toilet came off the wall my second to last night when I just set my shaving kit on it to do some pre packing. Maintenance just moved it over and screwed it back into the wall so it’s not in symmetry with the toilet. Unbelievable.
Now for the good news to explain my 2 star review. The bed was extremely comfortable and I slept like a baby because it is surprisingly very quiet. I did not hear slamming doors, people next door, traffic, vacuuming at 8am (see above) etc. So it is what it is. Comfortable bed and shower 3 blocks from Times Square. Shop around, there are way better options nearby for the same price.
