I stayed at the Larchmont (travelling alone) in 2006 and was quite impressed by what it was for the price (4th night free at the time). I went this month (Nov 2008) with family (baby included!) that is used to staying in nicer hotels but were a bit put aback by the prices of NYC. The hotel can really use...

Ok, first the bad: rooms small, shared baths, dated furnishings, short on charm. Now the good: great neighborhood, safe, good value for the price. Have travelled to NYC numerous times on government per diem, numerous times on personal dime. Have stayed at Larchmont maybe 4 or 5 times (on personal dime, of course). The reality check: That good hotel you...

We stayed at the Larchmont in September 08 for my Birthday weekend. The price was good and considering most of us who go to the city don't worry about sleeping too much as there is too much to do. However that said, although the room was fairly clean if not small, I think there are better deals for boutique hotels...

This place is a great value on a (relatively) quiet street (for NYC) in a good neighborhood (Greenwich Village) with a lot of good options within walking distance. The staff are very friendly and helpful. But be aware of the drawbacks before you stay: -Many rooms are internet wi-fi dead zones, and I even had problems keep a reliable connection...

I wouldn't say our stay was terribly bad, but it wasn't good either. The room was small, the shared bathroom not clean, the breakfast not tasty and the staff not very friendly. The positive aspect was the price, but there are better hotels out there in the same price range.

We had a great stay at the Larchmont over New Years in 2004 so when we visited New York last month we stayed at the Larchmont and once again the hotel was perfect. We stayed on the second floor and our room (a small double) was clean, quiet and quaint, and the bathrooms on the floor were very clean and...

We were two ladies on a pleasure trip to New York, and felt very safe in the neighboorhood at all hours. Found the subway within a few blocks, and enjoyed walking and eating in the neighborhood. Don't miss the Forbes museum around the corner. We had a good room since it faced the street front. My first time with a...

Having stayed in the Larchmont many years ago and having a fantastic experience, this trip came as a huge disappointment. Bell staff lovely, unfortunately our room and shared facilities were a complete disgrace. Although smoking has been banned for some years our room smelt of stale smoke and damp. The blinds in both windows were broken, and the carpet was...

This was was best deal we could find for our stay in Manhattan. The location is excellent for exploring the southern half of Manhattan (either by foot to greewich or east village) or by subway from union square just about everywhere. Getting home by cab at night is affordable from throughout downtown. Its a quiet and safe area. My wife...

just returned from our first trip to New York and stayed here. It was in a great location and easy to get around and see the sights. The staff were friendly and gave us some really good recommendations of places to eat and suggested some great local bars to try. The room was clean and tidy and although I had...

Staying in Greenwich Village

Neighbourhood Profile
Greenwich Village
Commonly known as “the Village” to New Yorkers, it was here in Greenwich Village that both 1960’s counter culture and the LGBT movement were born. Famous for its bohemian past, head to Washington Square Park to get a feel for this diverse and energetic neighbourhood. You’ll find NYU students, street performers, skateboarders, kids frolicking in the fountain, and locals relaxing and playing chess. Stroll the streets to discover a mix of majestic town homes and hidden bars and restaurants that give this neighbourhood an old-school residential feel. When the sun goes down, check out one of the famous jazz or comedy clubs that still packs them in every night.
