Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were in San Diego to celebrate my wife's 60th birthday. We picked San Diego because we heard what an amazing place it is, we were right. We drove from Palm Springs and got to the hotel at 11:30 am. To our surprise our room was ready, Thank you Ashley for making the experience first class. When booking I called the hotel directly and booked a top notch room. Top floor, balcony, harbour view. It was a special occassion and wanted my wife to remember it as such. The hotel was fabulous!! Now..... The bad news, and it's the only reason I didn't rate the whole experience as a 5 star!! When booking, the booking agent suggested they provide 2 nice bottles of wine in our room upon arrival, " Wow" I thought , what a great way to make my wife's birthday start celebration start off so well. When we arrived, no bottles. My first thought was we were too early. Later in the day , I spoke to Ashley and she felt terrible. She was fantastic and wanted to make it right. She said " leave it with me". I checked back much later in the day and the next day, she was somewhat surprised nothing had been delivered. She immediately went to the office and spoke to the manager, she came out, very disappointed, and said, " there is nothing he can do". She was embarrassed and disappointed for us. My issue here is, this manager actually could have done something, he chose not to. He chose not to make our stay perfect rather than leave a bad taste in my mouth with such a laisez faire , who cares attitude!! For someone to chose to do nothing for a special celebration by spending $25 , is extremely bad judgement and should answer to that. Ashley, thank you soooo much for the effort. Our next stay in San Diego, and we will be back, will be somewhere else, what a terrible way to leave a guest feel for something that could have been virtually effortless!!! Yes, you actually could have done something!!! You chose not to!! Shame on you!!!

Val the Valet provided great service. He pulled my vehicle up extremely quickly and extremely helpful with directions and suggestions. We were having some problems deciding where to eat, and Val the Valet had some great suggestions that turned out to be the best meals of the trip.

Jay Arman in valet was wonderful! I had forgotten my eyeglasses in the car and he got them for me within 10 minutes after my call. All valets were super nice and respectful, especially when 50 people are trying to check in and check out at the same time.

Hotel is quite nice and large. Had a wonderful corner room in the South Tower that enabled us to see both sunrises and sunsets. There were times that the people were too much for me but the amenities were fantastic. Val (The Valet) was THE BEST as well. Helpful, engaging and funny. Made me want to just hang out with him for the day.

Nice stay. Room was comfortable. Only complaint is all night long we could hear the doors from the other room slamming each time they opened and closed. Made it difficult to sleep at times. Val was best valet. Personable, helpful and sweet. Thanks for everything.

Excellent M Lounge! Well staffed and well stocked and open reasonable hours! A Christmas Miracle it would seems!! The hotel is newly renovated, the front desk staff is all friendly and very helpful, Catherine had some great recommendations for me as I don't spend as much time in San Diego as I used to. The parking lot situation is a mess here so it's worth it to valet

Whilst the basics were as expected (the bed was good, the room was clean, the temperature was fine), three things ruined the experience: No Room Service. Why would a top end hotel not have any room service. The only option was that they’d deliver a takeaway bag from the fast food cafe (charging $8 for the privilege) or I had to go and pick up from a hotel restaurant, where the food was in provided in takeaway containers with plastic cutlery. Terrible. Power outlets. Whoever decided to only have power/usb outlets on one side of the bed has clearly never stayed in a hotel. Just plain stupid. Door banging. The bedroom doors were so heavily self closing that anyone coming/going in any nearby room caused the door to slam and the whole area shook. I’ve never heard such slamming through the night in any other decent hotel. These are basic things, not expected of a brand like Marriott.
