The hotel has a lot of charm because it about 100 years old. There are only two elevators in the hotel (10 stories) and they are slow for todays standards.

Due to a change in our travel plans we booked here because it was centrally located. That is the good and bad thing. Unknown to us at the time, The Gaslamp District is Party Cental. That means a very loud and crazy street scene until the early morning hours. This hotel is of the charming, gentrified variety. That being said...

The hotel was clean, contemporary, and offered great services. And the staff was friendly, offering tips and advice on what to do and what to see. The ferry to Coronado was inexpensive and just a short walk away. The Gaslamp district was also just a short walk and offered many different dining experiences, bars, and shopping! But, seeing the seals...

Not the most posh spot. In fact, don't expect posh. Come here when you've come to SD to barhop and you won't be hanging around your room anyway. They post warning signs to advise people it won't be quiet. It's in a noisy, party neighborhood. If that's what you're after, this is your place. Also the adjacent restaurant is open...

The hotel is a 3 star they need a lot of remodeling but I gave it a 4 because everything was clean and walking distance to everywhere I wanted to do at night. You must go on the rooftop for nice views. I will recommend this is you are looking for a great location near clubs, bars and restaurants.

Last week, I was there for a conference and didn't want to pay $300 per night. Of course, I got what I paid for (about $100 per night). What you can expect with 1/3 price? Still, I expected some clean bed sheet however, my bed sheet got stains and air conditioners were working only when I am in the room....
