Small, clean rooms. Friendly staff. Exactly what they promise. It's inexpensive, comfortable, and friendly. Proprietor goes the distance to keep this older motel upgraded (flat screen TV, very comfortable beds, and immaculately clean) Property is monitored for security. (Bright lights outside were problematic inside: Maybe better curtains?) Continental breakfast in the morning was pleasant. Well located: Walking distance to great... More

Staff is super friendly. Rooms are pretty nice, super clean. LCD TV, large nice bed, good comfort for a super price! Why stay elsewhere when you re on a short stay in SD? Only inconvenient is that you hear the noise of the street sometimes. But really not a big deal to me.

Small, clean rooms. Friendly staff. Cheap rates. Exactly what they promise. Yes, you can hear some traffic noise. Yes, you can hear tv from the next room. But it's cheap, comfortable, and friendly. Good shower. Decent coffee and muffins in the morning. Well located. Nice walk-in closets.

Its hard to find somewhere nice when you're on a budget and have standards. That would be me. I've stayed in lots of upscale hotels, but with the economy, my budget has decreased. My #1 requirement is cleanliness and im not exagerating when i say this place is "Bright White Clean" . I was very impressed and very satisfied! Also... More

We stayed here for four nights in the beginning of December. We had three rooms total, with extended family that met up with us for a visit. The proprietor and staff are just amazing, I haven't experienced customer service like this ever. From the front desk to the housekeeping staff everyone was friendly and helpful - went out of their... More

I'm all for quirky budget hotels, and like to support standalone businesses. I stayed at the Dolphin on an unseasonably rainy Sunday a few weeks ago, and it was clean, the proprietor was pleasant, and the price was low. But there are a few things potential customers should know. The property consists of two buildings, a main building containing the... More

Well I guess the old saying is true “you can’t hit a home run all the time”. And I regret and apologize to you that your stay was an unpleasant one. Sir, I would suggest in the future that you come forward and tell the establishment of your displeasure with the accommodations so the hotel can at least have the... More

We so enjoyed our stay at the Dolphin Motel near Shelter Island, SanDiego! We have been visiting SD for over 4 years and have stayed in many hotels from Oceanside to Sanysidro, from o the bigger chains to the little trendy ones down in the Gaslamp district, to the highrises by the harbor, and we have to say that The... We stayed for a week. The location is great to get to the airport and many different sites that San Diego offers. The staff including the owners were friendly and helpful. Everyday we got clean towels and the maid without asking us changed our sheets twice! The room is small and it sits on the corner of a quiet street... More

We recently stayed at the Dolphin Inn when we were visiting San Diego. To be honest, we weren’t sure what to expect even though the Dolphin does not advertise that they are a luxury hotel. Well, when we got there, we went into the office area. It’s small. They don’t have a lobby nor an official bellman or concierge. But... More

Selected this motel because of the rating of being #7 in San Diego and price was reasonable ($60-$70). I'm not a fancy room person, usually keep things cheap 2-3 star so my level of need is reasonable. The room was smallish and old, but very clean as everyone says. There was no shampoo and no phone in the room (though... More

Yikes! We are a victim of our own success! With our high rating, some guests expect, as was said a "2-3 star" property. Sorry we did not meet your expectations. But we continue to stay true to our mission, which is to provide a clean, no frills, safe, friendly service oriented room for a small price. Regarding "other places that... More
