GREAT alternative to staying in a pricey impersonal hotel room. The owners are personable, helpful, and they will go out of their way to make you feel at home. Only drawback are the number of stairs to the guest rooms (up 2-3 levels from the street), and Boston was going through a heat wave, so my room was very warm...

We thoroughly enjoyed our 4 day stay in Boston, exploring the sights from this centrally located B&B. We enjoyed our conversations with Jane, the hostess. The accommodation, on the top floor in a well appointed and spacious bedroom with a bathroom shared with another couple more than met our expectations.

The 1863 House was just perfect for what my daughter and I needed. Beautiful, charming old brownstone. It was very warm and inviting; clean, roomy. The 1863 House is a great location in the south end of Boston. Very convenient walk to the Back Bay Station, Copley Square, Prudential Center. Safe, charming neighborhood. Our hosts, Ben and Jane, were so...

I've been there for three days. The house is really lovely, furnished with a great taste for particulars. My room was big and full of light. The restroom was shared with a couple but I never saw them and was always very clean. The landlords were really perfect, friendly but never annoying at all. Breakfast was good, with some muffins...

I spent a most comfortable four nights with Jane and Ben in early December 2014. They are the most engaging hosts I've encountered in many years of traveling. I arrived on a snowy Friday evening; over tea, we launched into a conversation which continued throughout the duration of my stay! They have lived in the area for many years, and...

I really enjoyed staying here. It was very cozy-beautiful furnishings and ambiance throughout. The hosts were charming and friendly and fun to talk to. Lots of good restaurants in walking distance. It was like home away from home--really nice.

My wife and I stayed with Jane and Ben over the first weekend of October 2014. Their house is an immaculate period property furnished most appropriately and with great taste. They were charming hosts and we enjoyed our conversations with them. It should be noted that the breakfast is not a cooked one and the rooms on the top floor...

We were in Boston for 3 nights and staying at Ben and Jane's B&B helped make the whole trip very enjoyable. On the first day that we arrived, they immediately offered to lend us their lawn chairs and binoculars when we mentioned that we were going to see Shakespeare on the Common. We love talking to Ben and Jane, not...

Rarely have we found a place to stay that is so "us". A beautiful old house in Boston, full of quirky, fun collectibles. Jane and Ben are such lovely people, so friendly and welcoming, I am sure they would be friends if we lived in Boston! They gave us excellent advice and joined us for breakfast. Jane even wanted to...

Having stayed here two years ago it would have been madness to stay anywhere else this time. Everything I said then applies now - the house is beautiful and the hosts, Jane and Ben, are most welcoming and helpful. They took time to chat to us and gave advice and opinions on what to do or see. When we went...

Staying in South End

Neighbourhood Profile
South End
Stroll down the beautiful brownstone lined streets while capturing views of Boston’s tallest buildings from a distance. Some of Boston’s best restaurants are scattered around this neighborhood. There are many gems to be found, from jazz clubs to classy bars and restaurants. It is also home to art galleries, interesting boutiques, artsy stores and SOWA open market during the summer months. The South End is a true find in the city, with a more residential feeling than Back Bay.
