We stayed here for 2 nights during a road trip through the Southwest. We've stayed at other luxury dude ranch/adventure lodges in the US and South America, and this was a disappointing experience as compared to those stays. First of all, I expected that they'd contact us to arrange activities as that's been my experience at other properties, but no one reached out. So it was pretty frustrating to hear that basically all the activities were already booked when we arrived as the hotel did nothing to proactively help us set activities up. Isn't that the kind of service you're paying for when staying at a property like this? The one activity/tour that was available was a full-day trip to Arches and Canyonlands, which we were told would be about $2,000 for the two of us with tax and tips. $2,000 for a one-day trip to a national park?!? We were expecting to pay a fair amount for activities at the ranch, but that price was shocking. When we said that that was more than we were looking to spend, we were told that we could come by the front desk in the morning and the staff would be happy to provide some details about where in the park(s) to go, hikes, etc. A few different staff members had said, "leave the ranch by 8 am and you'll be fine to get into Arches and see most of the park." I showed up the next morning at 7:45 am expecting to get some guidance, and the woman who was at the desk was utterly useless. She told me that she didn't know anything about arrival timing/when it's best to visit because it's "a 24-hour park" and that I should enter the park and go to the ranger station. That's it?!?! You presumably live in the area/on the ranch and the best you can do is tell me to go to the ranger station at a national park?!!? My takeaway from this is that the options were either spend $2,000 for a hotel-arranged excursion or figure it out on your own. There's really no option in between those 2?! Wow. Again, just not the service I'd expect from a property like this. Our room was fine, nothing special. The woman who showed us the room was going on and on about the kitchenette, but there was literally nothing in it! It gets really hot in Moab and I would have killed for a few cold drinks and/or snacks to be stocked in the fridge etc. At this price point, I would have expected a "free" minbar, but I probably would have paid $8 or whatever ridiculous price they'd charge for a cold Gatorade. We ate breakfast and dinner in the hotel restaurant each day and the food was just OK, definitely not something I'd actively rave about. The service for all of our meals was slow, which is especially frustrating at an active lodge like this at breakfast because pretty much all of the hotel guests are trying to eat early and get out for an activity. They do offer breakfast in your room, but I don't really like eating in my hotel room--maybe that's the most efficient way to get your breakfast? I would just think that the staff would be trained that guests typically don't want to spend an hour at breakfast because they have tours and activities planned. The setting of the ranch is very pretty, but I wouldn't come back here. We were excited for a "luxury" option in Moab, but this ain't it. My advice is to save your money and stay elsewhere.

We expected a lot more. 1st 250.00 per day resort per day for pony rides and sunset smores. We are a bit past those events. Booked couples massage, they billed us twice, got that fixed and then got a call that they only have single masseuse and wanted to know if that was ok... my reply, do you have 4 hands? So canceled. Restaurant food was ok but small portions and very expensive for example plate of vegi rigatoni 32.00. Staff was very nice and when our room keys stopped working they got it resolved quick. Note, room service starts knocking at 8am!

Sorrel River Ranch offers a perfect family vacation. Its location on one of the most beautiful spots in the Professor Valley of Moab is the main attraction. The ranch is perfectly situated on the Colorado River, in a canyon formed by majestic red rocks, with access to all the recreational activities that make Moab so desirable – hiking, rock climbing, rafting/kayaking, horseback riding, and more. But the thing that will make us go back to Sorrel River is the staff. I really felt like the people there cared that we enjoyed our vacation. From the management – Amadeo the GM, Cletus the Ranch Manager, Mark who runs the activities, and Chef Simon – to so many extraordinary staff people – Laura, Ron, Fudge, Max, and Cedar in activities; Diane, Rhonda and Moriah in equestrian (extra special shout out to Diane and Rhonda for so patiently sharing the beauty of the barn and the ranch’s animals with us); Merlin and Matthew at the concierge/front desk; Chef Doc; Sheryl, Jae, and Tricia in the dining room; and the always cheerful and helpful housekeeping staff (whose names I’m embarrassed I never learned) – there just aren’t enough superlatives to describe our experience. In the end, the location can be perfect and the food delicious, but it is great people who make for a great experience. And Sorrel River Ranch was a great experience. We’d go back in a heartbeat.
