If you are looking for a nice, comfortable, ritzy or romantic hotel......then don't even think of staying at this place. You will be sadly disappointed. If you are budget minded and are just looking for a decently priced, safe place to rest your head in a good location then you may like this place. Many of the older hotel rooms...

This is one of the very worst experiences that I have ever had. We arrived in San Francisco late and were delighted to find somewhere to rest our heads after a long drive from LA. The room was small and we were immediately hit by a dank, musty smell as soon as we opened the door. Dropping our bags inside...

If you're traveling solo, can't beat the price and location. All I want is a clean bed, clean shower and a place to drop my clothes. At the gates of Chinatown, couple of blocks from Market St and within walking distance of all tourist attractions including the Wharf and AT &T Park. Street noise was only issue. Looking forward to...

I’ve been to San Francisco more than a dozen times and stayed in various hotels all over the city; everything from a 4star near Fisherman’s Wharf to run-down establishments in the Tenderloin, with some fancy boutique hotels in-between. After a week in 2007 and another in 2008 I came back to the ASTORIA in October 2010 for a third stay,...

Upon reading reviews, I think some people are forgetting that this is a budget hotel in an expensive city. Yes, it is an old hotel with thin walls; the room was simple but clean, the bathroom was small but functional. We did not find stains on our sheets and maid service was available everyday; although, we opted not to have...

The room was small and dirty. The mattress and pillows were stiff and gave my boyfriend and me back and neck aches. We wound up getting our own pillows from my car on our second night. Each and every move on the mattress sounded like an extremely old, creaky door. I don't think the shower has ever been cleaned (moldy...

Worn out hotel in great central location. Friendly helpful staff and spacious room. The door to our separate bathroom wouldn't close properly and the room got stifingly hot while we were out and had the window closed. No air-con for respite. China town is great fun and probably the best spot to adventure out from.

The location is great. The rooms are very small but clean. If you're only planning on sleeping in it, it's just fine. The continental breakfast was all right, though the quarters were close and the staff weren't the friendliest in that room. At times, the room could be noisy, but being in the middle of San Francisco I don't think...

If we'd known what we were in for we would've happily paid more to avoid this experience! The rooms and beds were dirty with stains in the sheets I'd rather avoid to guess what they were... the shower was moldy and if you're taller than 5'7 you'll bang you're head. the lift was scary as were the flimsy doors that...

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
As the oldest in North America, San Francisco's Chinatown is an exotic experience. A unique neighbourhood decorated with colourful shops, historic streetlights, hanging lanterns, and pagoda roofs awaits behind the stone-carved dragon gates. Feast on dim sum at the tea houses, or meet the locals who gather at historic Portsmouth Square to play chess or practice Tai Chi. Fish markets, produce stands, tourist shops, jewelry stores, fortune tellers, temples and restaurants come together to create a world unto itself in this historic neighbourhood.
