Booked the San Remo Hotel right before President's Day weekend. All other major hotels were either sold out or over-the-top expensive. I was a bit wary of this place because of the shared bathrooms but it turned out to be a wonderful stay. The bathrooms are totally clean and I rarely ran into any other guest or had to wait...

Pros: great location just 10 minutes' walk from Pier 39 and Fisherman's Wharf, and 15 minutes from Lombard Street. Hot showers. Staff was really helpful and changed my room when we saw nb.5 had no outside windows and felt claustrophobic. Trader Joe's just round the corner. Discounted parking nearby ($20 for 24 hours instead of $36). Cons: not my jam...

Historical hotel in very easy walking distance to Fisherman's Wharf, Cable Cars etc. Reasonable price but rooms very small and bed was only just ok. Memorabilia of earlier days fill the hotel. Bathrooms not in rooms but kept spotlessly clean and well equipped. Friendly helpful staff. Coffee and tea freely available all day.

Thank you so much for your comments. We provide our guests with a comfortable yet affordable place to stay in the City, in a convenient location. We recently changed all our beds, unfortunately, after just a few months the beds started squeaking. We contacted the manufacturer, and they confirmed that the box spring (base) has a defect, and we are...

I read a ton of reviews and I was completely satisfied with the hotel. The service was great and the employees were very professional. I enjoyed having free beverages in the morning, including tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and snacks. They also have free Wi-fi which was very strong. The location was great. It was just a short five minute walk...

Thank you so much for taking the time to review the hotel, and for mentioning our great location. Our hotel was built in 1906, and we have not changed or altered the size of the rooms, they are indeed on the cozy side; we recommend you don’t bring a travel trunk, but if you do, we can make arrangement to...

This was our first time visiting San Francisco in January 2017. This hotel was fairly easy to get to from the airport (train from the airport, then catch a yellow tram and a bit of a walk). We arrived at 730am ish and they were great. They tagged and held our luggage for the day. The hotel itself was a...

One of the most charming hotels that I have ever stayed in. Seriously, this place is great and seems like it was plucked from another era. The rooms are on the small size, but they are cozy and have so much character! Also, you are in San Francisco! So, go out an enjoy the city! Don't be put off by...

What a fun little property! The entire staff and management were over the top accommodating, welcoming & friendly! The room was adorable, clean and made for a perfect home base during our trip to San Francisco! The restaurant downstairs is one the best Italian restaurants I've ever had the pleasure of enjoying and the waitstaff seemed to really enjoy their...

You will have all come to realise that San Francisco is expensive for hotel rooms. This will lead you to find out about the San Remo hotel. Yes, you will be uneasy about the shared bathroom situation. But, you know what? I loved this hotel. In the last twelve months I have been to India, Ireland, France, U.K, Spain, Portugal...

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighbourhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighbourhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighbourhood home.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
We are a family-owned historic boutique pension-style hotel located in North Beach, one of San Francisco's oldest and most popular tourist destinations, and only a few blocks from Fisherman's Wharf. Built in 1906, our hotel maintains an atmosphere of Old-World charm and ambiance with specially selected antique furnishings - no two rooms are alike. The walls of the hotel are filled with a collection of memorabilia and history. Our style is simplicity and sanctuary - there are no room telephones, no televisions, and on the order of European pensions, shared baths which are meticulously cleaned daily, and are private when in use, but for all guests to use. Our rooms are cozy and small, our prices are proportional. Our staff is available while our Front Desk is open to help you find anything your heart desires. A truly unique, non-standardized hotel experience. ... more   less
