The San Francisco Marriott Marquis generally receives accolades for its cleanliness and well-kept rooms, with many guests appreciating the hotel's meticulous daily housekeeping. However, some guests have noted the pricing to be on the higher side, feeling that the cost of services, parking, and amenities does not reflect good value. While the top-floor bar's panoramic views and the hotel's prime location near transit and attractions are highlights for many, the additional charges for amenities and encounters with noise and vagrants nearby detract from the experience. The quality of service offered elicits mixed feelings; the staff's friendliness is often commended, yet inconsistencies in service and occasional unresponsiveness have been called out.

I really enjoyed my 4-day stay at the Marriott Marquis in SF (at Mission and 4th). Once my room was ready, check-in was easy.

I had a Standard room with a king bed on the 15th floor. (If you want a view, ask for a room that overlooks Yerba Buena Gardens). My room was away from the elevators, and, the double-paned glass windows muffled most of the city noise. There's an onsite restaurant, a small cafe that stays open till around 11 pm, and, a bar on the hotel's top floor (but, I never went up there). And, there's 2 Starbucks right across from the Marriott. There's even public purified water dispensers throughout the hotel.

The hotel staff was warm and friendly. Housekeeping comes around daily.

However, despite the hotel's great location (a block away from the Powell St BART Station), the gritty/grungy surrounding streets with its wandering vagrants can put-off some visitors. BUT, that's not the hotel's fault. Just be aware of your surroundings when you leave the premises to walk through SoMa or along Market Street.

Lastly, I have stayed in Marriott hotels around the world, and, even though they have varying styles/set-ups to appeal to different demographics, the level of comfort, service, and care are standard.

In the past I have stayed at the Stamford court on California st , the Marriott on Sutter St , when it was a holiday inn, the Parc 55 , the Hilton on Kearny st and the Hilton Union square , the Argent and holiday inn fisherman’s wharf!
I have walked past the Marriott Marquis many times and now I have been a guest.
To me it lived up to Marriott standards, although being a big hotel , the staff were friendly, from the front desk , rooftop bar , housekeeping. The room was a double, bed was very comfortable, pillows could have been slightly bigger but were fine . Nice shower, a rubber mat would be a nice safety aid !
Sound proofing, could hear when doors were being shut but I realize they are heavy for safety/ fire safe etc. excellent wifi signal .
Fantastic bar on the 39th floor , but get there early, spectacular views of the city.
Great location, everything you need is nearby, BART train/ transit station ( Powell station) is nearby , takes about 30 minutes from SFO airport and costs $10.55 .
Despite the ongoing homeless problem in the city it is still a great city and relatively safe and this hotel is a really nice property, clean modern and great staff !

Recently stayed at this enormous hotel on a very busy weekend. Overall I enjoyed it. My room faced inward which wasn't that great because the air vents on the lower roofs were quite noisy. Thus I didn't open the windows much to enjoy the miraculous San Francisco summer weather. (Bring a sweatshirt as nights are chiily even in August.) Nonetheless, the seal on the windows was sound proof, so the room was pretty silent when the window was closed.
The hotel sports an excellent gym with an entire floor dedicated to cardio. Really the gym was huge and not too crowded. That was great.
There is a $25 destination/resort fee. But don't worry as it translates to a credit at hotel restaurant or even better at the Market Place store in the hotel. Hint: If you purchase $18 of stuff in the market, be sure to tip $7 to the clerk as you are paying $25 anyway!
The $25 also covers cable car passes for 4 rides, and a few other things including use of bikes for 2 hours. By all means, be sure to take advantage of the cable car coupons as they are worth $32. The ride takes you from Powell Street to Ghiradelli Square. En route you pass through Pacific Heights and it is always a treat to see how the other 1% lives. There is naturally a long line to take the cable car, but if you let the conductor know you are willing to sit inside the car, the wait is just minutes.
Location of the hotel is excellent with easy access to Union Square and Oracle ball park. Try the Dungeness crab sandwich at the ballpark for an unusual take on ballpark fare.
If you stay in don't stray too far from Union Square, the homeless situation is not as bad as you may have heard. If you don't go to the Tenderloin district safety will never be an issue.
One good thing about traveling to SF these days is that it is not nearly as crowded as it used to be. Enjoy it while it lasts.
By the way if arriving from SFO or OAK, just take BART as you end up just step from the hotel.

Had to be re routed here from the Clancy since they had a power issue. we had stayed here in April 2024 and never vowed ot come back because of dirty socks in the room and billing issue.s unfortunately were stuck going here because Clancy sent us over and comped a night.. the front desk lady was ready to debate and didn't understand that we wanted to extend our stay for the full 3 days - we pay the other tow nights. we finally did that Saturday Morning. , from a nice gentleman. Then Sunday night a cleaning lady stormed our room like DEA agents and asked when we were checking out at 10pm ..then i called the front desk form our room to ask what the issue was and the lady who answered told me' I was not happy" that i wont be able to get into the room talking like that - i was already in the room (CLOWN). Then she had a manager call and try to tell us that the rate changed from 159 to 229 (they were sold out) so she tried to price surge us. thank gawd we spoke to a manager on Monday morning when we checked out and they reduced our charges by $80 and apologized for the error. But this front desk staff really should take law classes because they cant wait to get into a deposition - i love to debate but not on vacation....time to clear out that front desk staff, they are the face of your hotel and they are not happy at thier jobs nor very good.

We understand your time is valuable, and we appreciate you letting us know about your experience. We're disappointed to hear that we did not provide a flawless stay for a second time. We have shared your feedback with the front desk leaders to fix this issue of not listening fully to what you, our guest, need during the check-in process. This will help to avoid any additional issues from occurring during a guest stay. Once again, thank you for staying with us.

For a Marriott Marquis brand it is not good. It is not cheap, the restaurants are overpriced for mediocre food and service. Reception staff ok and friendly but they only do what’s expected . Housekeeping terrible, when I checked in to room the shower gel pump dispenser was empty so I had to ask. For a 4 night stay the housekeeping did not service the room once, despite calling down to request. Don’t expect a top up of your morning coffee or a fresh towel, or even have your bin emptied, really bad. I had to call for more toilet tissue, it’s just very frustrating having to wait. Hotel is in a good location, however it is very noisy. It’s a very busy hotel. There is a coffee shop/convenience shop in the lobby but I suggest you walk across the road to Trader Joes where the same items are half the price. I have stayed here numerous times but luckily our corporate contract is changing hotel chains, and I would suggest you book elsewhere too.

The inly reason to stay here is the conference center close by. The hotel is huge and bland. The quality is very average. Service is non existent, during my five day stay my room was not serviced even once, for a price of close to 400 USD per night. I am sure there mist be better options in this great city.

Very good stay in this hotel in the very center, very practical, a stone's throw from Union Square, cable cars, hop off buses, shops and restaurants. It's huge, three restaurants...too bad the panoramic bar was closed during the Christmas holidays (??). The rooms are spacious and very comfortable. We had a very noisy neighborhood problem because of the connecting doors which allow us to choose two rooms (I hate that), they offered to change us spontaneously (many thanks). The view from the room was superb. The reception is very friendly; they made a mistake in the final score and had difficulty finding their way at the counter. I think it was reinstated, because the final direct debit was reduced, but I never received the invoice by email as promised. The buffet breakfast is delicious and the staff very friendly. We got a package of $25 per day, as credits on the hotel restaurants, with Mariott water bottle, tram tickets... an exceptional gym, huge and very well equipped too.

Very nice hotel. Clean and comfortable. We stayed in a suite with two bathrooms, a living room and two queen beds. The hotel is in the heart of Union Square, with supermarkets, restaurants and large stores a few meters away, beyond the known location on the streets, all very nice. A very large and high-quality hotel, despite there being a lot of people, all the employees are attentive and willing. I would return.

Stayed here for three nights in a city view room (30th floor) with 2 queen beds and a great view. Room was very clean and the decor is simple and modern, with a good size bathroom. Staff were friendly, especially in the Mission Street Pantry, where there is a selection of snacks and hot/cold drinks (perfect for a quick takeaway breakfast).
Unfortunately didn't get to go into the View Lounge bar on the top floor - we went up 20 mins after it opened (4pm) and it was completely full of people.
Only complaint is that we were not told that room cleaning is still only available on request. Nothing was said at check in, and we only realised when there was no housekeeping the following day. However, weirdly, on that day while the beds weren't made etc, we returned to the room to find two red cushions neatly placed on the beds that weren't in the room before. Very odd!
(We did request room housekeeping for the rest of our stay, and were very happy with the cleaning/towel refreshing etc).

Hotel is well set up for business with plenty of staff, all of whom were efficient and courteous. The valet was truly a wizard packing our car when we left (we had an extra person plus suitcase to fit in our Accord, which also houses a wheelchair). My daughter left an item in the room, called the next day, and received her item promptly at a fair price. Location has many restaurants nearby within easy walking distance. Room very comfortable, and we received daily housekeeping. An area for improvement: ballrooms had poor to no Wi-Fi. I was dreading an event in SF and was pleasantly surprised (although your wallet will suffer; everything v expensive). Well done, SFMM.

The room should be quiet. It's reasonably safe to walk around the hotel at night (not too late as it becomes quite deserted), but there are a lot of homeless in downtown SF, and as you get towards the Tenderloin, you may have problems
