I have just returned from san Francisco,we ended an amazing cruise in sanfran and at the moment I want to sue my travel agent. this hotel is located in one the poorest areas of the city and as a result it is unsafe to walk outside the hotel day or night. we advised by locals to remove all our jewellery.you...

This particular review is written in the context of a frequent business traveler and not necessarily from a leisure perspective (which actually for anyone looking to recreate "The Shining" may be a huge boon). The hotel is located in a rather seedy party of Market Street, so much so, that my company's CTO thought it better that I didn't walk...

Due to a late flight arrival, we didn't get in to the hotel until 11pm. At that point, the room we had reserved through Historic Hotels wasn't available. The manager offered to give us a room with two double beds which was not what we had booked. Apparently they can double book when you reserve through an external website -...

Incredible customer service, very clean rooms, excellent location, historic charm, and after saying all of that, it is quite reasonably priced as well. Our bell man was so nice! He was charismatic, efficient, helpful, and charming. It really works to the hotel's advantage that he is the first person most of their guests will meet! Our room was very spacious...

Service was very good and rooms were clean, old fashioned, and comfortable. Beautiful lobby. Like many in-city hotels, the rooms are fairly small. Conveniently located steps away from BART and Muni. Location is very central but also close to the Tenderloin- an area known for homelessness and other problems. It did not feel unsafe, however, and in the evenings hotel...

Lobby was nice. Receptionist was terrible, slow service and didn't apologise after spending ages in the queue. Rooms were small, dank and uncared for (wallpaper coming off the wall in our room). The bathrooms were tiny. The hotel is not in a good location, and the neighbourhood is a little dodgy at night. Hotel just felt dark and to quote...

A perfectly good place to stay for a reasonable rate and very close to city and subway (BART). Service was good, place clean and well serviced. Lots of 'old world charm' as the building is a bit dated - could be a plus or a minus depending on how you like it! I would use it again if in the...

We stayed here for two nights and found it a wonderful hotel, people have been saying that it feels old and dated, well it is old,it has a charming feel of the twenties about it which was great, yes there are a lot of homeless people there but they are all over the city, and the ones we spoke to were friendly and...

I read a lot of negative things about the hotel before travelling and must say I found it very good. The location for transport is very good with tram and buses running regularly to Fisherman's Wharf at $2. Good sized room with comfortable bed. I was on the second floor facing Market Street and there were a number of sirens...

Absolutely coming back. Staff is top notch. What really made my trip was the manager, Kazi Ahmed. He went out of his way to make my evening go smoothly and is the reason I stayed here the rest of the weekend! 5 stars no doubt

Staying in SoMa

Neighbourhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighbourhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighbourhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
