Sadly, this was one of the worst hostels I've stayed in. Maybe it just wasn't "me", though the friends I stayed with agreed they didn't particularly like it either. It's very run down. The laundry is only open for a few hours a day, which means everyone wants to use them at those times. The pool table is nice to... More

We've stayed at the Marin Hostel in the past, but wanted to try a different one in the SF area. This one is exceptional! It is right on the trail along the bay, to the left is the Marina and GG Bridge, and to the right is the Bay Bridge and Alcatraz. Good place to walk/bike. The hostel itself is... More

Wonderful place to stay, if not for cost definitely for the view, awesome complimentary breakfast & wonderful & pleasant staff. If any downfall is if staying on bottom floor there's a lack of sound proofing

If you want to experience the outdoor portion of san francisco versus the city this is the place to stay. Of course its not that far of a walk to get to fisherman's wharf. Imagine waking up and stepping out the back door with the golden gate bridge as your backyard. This is located in fort mason park a converted... More

It's not easy to find a large hostel that still manages to provide comfortable, safe, friendly accommodations at a reasonable value and that is indeed the type of service HI Fort Mason provides. Yes you can pick apart little things that might only be specific to your room (limited outlets) or complain about the lack of a massive breakfast (really!?)... More

Stayed here in 2001, just prior to 9/11. If any hostel could be called international, this is it, even more so, I think, than NYC or Santa Monica. Called Fisherman's Wharf, but located on Ft. Mason, hard by the Golden Gate. I checked in about 4:00 pm on a Friday. Constantina, the clerk, was very pleasant and asked if I... More

My boyfriend and I has a rental car for a couple of days in San Fran and this place includes parking which is hard to come by. We stayed a total of five nights and were very satisfied with our stay. We were on our last leg of our road trip so it was nice to have something mellow and... More

Not enough electricity outlets in the rooms. Only one big light, no individual light, so everybody goes to sleep at the same time. Breakfast is only coffee, bagels and waffles. If you want fruit, yogurt or cereal, they have it beautifully displayed but they will charge you for that. Internet does not work. They charge for water!!!!

I stayed 6 nights at this place first 3 as part of a tour group and then another 3 independently. The building and its setting is charming and close to Fisherman's Wharf and public transport. WiFi is good but only works in public spaces. Service is friendly and helpful and the on-premises restaurant cooks nice and inexpensive salads, sandwiches and... More

We stayed at the hostel for 2 nights. The place is OK, a bit old and some of the furniture could use replacing, but not overall it's not too bad. The worst thing were the beds (old mattresses, you can feel the springs, and the noise they make every time someone turns on their beds can make it hard to... More

Staying in Marina District

Neighbourhood Profile
Marina District
Beautiful homes, beautiful people, and a beautiful backdrop of the Golden Gate Bridge welcome visitors to the Marina. Originally the location for the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in 1915 (whose remnants can be seen at the Palace of Fine Arts), much of the land was filled and flattened to accommodate a world’s fair. That ample space has given way to a jogger’s paradise at the northern edge of the city. With the picturesque bay setting as its backdrop, it’s no surprise that the area has hosted numerous movie productions. Daytime activities focus on café culture and boutique shopping, while the evenings turn this neighbourhood into a party-going hotspot.
