Have stayed here previously as we visit SF frequently. Van Ness Inn usually has very competitive rate for this area of SF, so good value for the money. This stay is the first time we had a room on the top floor. It was even opposite the elevator, so was grumpy about it at first. But found the street noise...

First off, you're not getting a comparable hotel for the price in SF proper. Second, the location is unparalleled -- you're about three blocks from any of the seaside attactions, cable cars, Lombard street, all that good tourist stuff. Our room was huge -- windows on both sides. Also, clearly the room had been recently renovated, and was nice looking,...

We reserved through hotwire, but hotwire cancelled unannounced, so when we arrived there was no booking. Instead of over pricing is in this situation they have us a better deal than hotwire! Free parking! Decent, clean rooms

Well located, but avoid if you cannot sleep with noise as it is on a main road and walls are paper thin. Twin room was a bit small but sufficient. Apart from this the beds are super comfortable and linen clean. There were no duvets but blankets were supplied when we complained that the linen was not warm. These are...

Comfortable rooms and excellent location, right near fishermans wharf and easy to walk to anywhere really. The staff on the front desk are not very welcoming, but the housekeepers are! Clean and relaxing, is definitely recommend staying here for your entire trip to San Francisco.

Very nice and kind staff at the reception, he showed us what to look around and informed us of rough areas in the city. Hotel is well centrally located. We have our own car but you could take bus or cable car. Happy with the location and free car parking is an added plus. Only issue was the noise coming...

Great location, comfy beds, walking distance to transport and fisherman's ward. Recommend if on budget, and believe me San Francisco is not cheap but well worth a visit. Tip for the internet needy coming from Australia. Don't buy credit from home, when you get here go to T Mobile and for $105 us you get a phone with unlimited internet...

Stayed in room 106 in the back so there was a little less Van Ness street noise. Loved the micro & frig. King bed was quite comfortable. Bathroom is newer & nice. Room was clean. Nice plantation shutters & flat screen tv. Our room did not include the table/chairs as other rooms so not as comfortable for breakfast (Office serves...

Staying in Russian Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
Russian Hill
Russian Hill has evolved into a chic residential neighborhood with outstanding views from every corner. Combined with several great cafes, restaurants, antique shops and boutiques, it’s easy to see why any visitor would gladly leave their heart in San Francisco. Cars line up day after day to drive down Lombard Street, the “crookedest” street in the world, and make the slow creep downhill past charming period homes. Polk Street is the main drag in this neighborhood, where you will find trendy bars, cafes and shops populated with locals, but for one of the most charming rides in the city, grab a cable car heading up and down Hyde Street.
