Spent 5 or 6 nights at Inn at the Opera with wife and 2 kids, ages 9 & 12. Rooms were very comfortable, clean and cozy. Beautiful old building, lots of character that you don't get at a new hotel. Great location, easy to walk...More
This is a perfect place to stay if you're going to the opera, symphony, ballet or Asian Art Museum. It isn't the Marriott -- it has a bit of character and a European feel. We were in the smallest room but didn't feel crowded and...More
The reason for our visit to San Francisco was to see the Romeo and Juliet Ballet in a world class venue. This hotel is practically across the street from that location in an excellent and untouristy part of the city.

Chock full of designer boutiques, art galleries, funky shoe stores, and great restaurants, it’s hard to imagine Hayes Valley once languished in the shadow of a major freeway. Its removal allowed for the creation of an attractive boulevard on Octavia Street with a community park at its center and dozens of trendy businesses to satisfy visitors looking for a stylish respite.

I'm sure they would let you pay for your guest's breakfast. It's based on honor system. People just go to breakfast from their rooms. I'm sure the hotel won't know how many people in your party since there is no checking at breakfast. That said, I would be honest and frank with the front desk and ask them about purchasing breakfast for a non-guest.
