Detailed Reviews
We chose this hotel based on location and price. It represents excellent value for money, and the location was perfect to catch the cable cars, bus and tram. Get a day pass for $13 including cable cars from either the Cable Car turnaround or Walgreens on Columbus - the only cheap thing in San Francisco!
There are many restaurants in all price classes within a few minutes walk.
For those wanting to hire a car on leaving, Hertz, Alamo, National and Enterprise have locations practically around the corner.
Our king room was large, clean and relatively modern. It was quiet, apart from some hallway noise. The bathroom was adequate. Shower pressure very low.
Breakfast was of a good standard, with daily changing menu items. Watch out for the biscuits…..they were only there on one day and I missed them 😥.
My biggest problem was the bathroom light that works on a movement sensor. At night, it lights up the room like Piccadilly Circus when someone goes in. It can be switched off, but will come on again the next time someone goes in. Hardly energy saving, as I couldn’t figure out when it turned itself off, so it stayed on seemly for ever.
Otherwise, we were very happy and would stay again.

Hotel's Favourite
The hotel is very well located if you intend to visit SF and the area. We spent 4 nights there and the room was very quiet and comfortable. The breakfast is great and is included. The personnel was very professional. The only caveat is a quite expensive parking.

This is an absolutely standard in every way hotel. Except for the great fact that the windows are able to open, a small bit but every bit counts! And the fact that I had an issue and the evening manager (at about ten pm) was on it in an instant providing innovative solutions that showed they are completely customer focused. Much better management response then the nearby Kimpton. The AC was fine but not great. The internet was fine. The valet parking was fine. The check in was fast and professional. Check out was easy. The room was clean. On the negative side—the rooms did not get cold…just passable…the view is non-existent—a wall across a narrow (maybe 12-14 foot) courtyard. The rug was extremely tired but the kind of rug that is easy to clean and it felt clean.

On this trip to San Francisco we decided to stay at the Holiday Inn, which turned out to be great, you can get to Fisherman's Wharp quickly and there are good connections to the ferries, trams and cable cars. The rooms and bathrooms are very spacious, very clean and cleaned thoroughly, which is not always the case these days. The breakfast is very plentiful and delicious, a typical American breakfast. The hotel is very well maintained and clean, the staff is friendly and helpful.

Booked this for its location in San Francisco but it turned out to be such a good value hotel. Breakfast was basic but can’t argue with it being included in the price.
Location is great for Fishermans wharf and the start of the hop on hop off bus. In a couple of mins walk you could see great views of the Golden Gate Bridge as well as Alcatraz
Rooms were spacious and clean.

A holiday inn Express that routinely charges $160-$200 a night per room and charges you a $22 a night amenities fee on top of the room charge, ought to have a damn microwave in the room and a fridge that actually keeps your food cold. They have a community microwave towards the front lobby so if you're on a higher floor towards the back, you have a 5 minute walk to get to the microwave anytime you want to get up some food. For a day or two this is fine but if you are there for a longer stay, huge inconvenience. Front desk messed up a couple of Amazon deliveries. Bummy area. Paper thin walls, can hear everything in your neighbors room.

We stayed in this hotel pre and post cruise. VERY convenient to walking around the piers and Fisherman's wharf. The area felt safe and mostly clean. We walked several times to the piers, restaurants, and to our cruise. The hotel was very clean, smelled good. The beds weren't the most comfortable and the AC doesn't really cool the rooms. We had our cruise fan with us and that helped. The breakfast was included and was really good! You can't beat the price for the location and the free breakfast. Post-cruise they allowed us to check in early for an extra small fee (it was like at 8am so we were very appreciative). Overall, we would stay here again when visiting SF.

What Resort Fee!!!!
On my initial review I gave a a good rating but after checking out I was advised of a $25 a day($75) resort fee WOW NO ONE AT THE FRONT DESK advised me about this charge upon check in Nor was it in clear plain view when I made reservations. I do travel quite a bit and This is totally unfair and now my opinion is totally different from before. It’s one thing to see it in clear view I am certainly requesting a refund of the resort fee and if I get it I will take my review down or I would not stay here ever again.
Plus breakfast items being replenished was very slow with the breakfast sausage, syrup very small automatic pancake maker and trying to get a table to eat is well good Luck the elevator well only one working well take the stairs takes a very long time . As far as the rooms overlooking the street very noisy early evening and early morning as far as the charge a bit too high breakfast only til 930 waay to early to close it It should go til 1030
I would like someone to contact me

Our experience at the Holiday Inn Express was wonderful! Customer service was perfect from the moment we arrived. They stored our bags until our room was ready and again the day we checked out so we could explore the city more. Room was clean and comfortable. Housekeeping was top notch. They didn't even hesitate or bat an eyelash when our child got sick and they needed to completely clean our bathroom midday. Fitness room was small and very popular, but tidy with great variety of equipment. Breakfast was tasty and seating was crowded every morning, but people were polite about making room for each other. The location is excellent, with an easy walk to many restaurants and sites. Very secure, requiring your room key to use the first floor amenities and elevator.

We found the hotel to be in a very convenient location. We walked everywhere from the hotel. It was also easy to take the streetcar to the BART to get to the airport at the end of our stay. (It took about an hour.)
The rooms were updated, but fairly small. They included a mini-fridge which was nice. They had no microwave, but we did see one in the room with the ice machine. There was a desk and chair with convenient outlets (even international plugs) on the desk. They had large size soap/shampoo/conditioners in the shower, which were more convenient than the little bottles.
The things that could be improved: There was no chair/sofa in the room other than the desk chair, no luggage holders (had to put suitcases on the floor), no hair dryer and for some reason the tp holder is under the sink and across from the toilet. It's very awkward to use (especially if you have short arms).
The fitness room was minimal (2 treadmills, 2 ellipticals, 1 bike and some free weights). The room was very small, and the tv's on the treadmill kept cutting in and out which was pretty frustrating.
Breakfast did not have their signature cinnamon rolls, which was disappointing. It included scrambled eggs, sausage links, cereal, bagels/bread, and some fruit (bananas and apples). It was kind of disappointing that they served the exact same thing every day. I was hoping they would at least rotate the types of eggs and meats, as they do at other hotels. There were no waffles or anything like that either. They also need better signs near the trash/compost/recycling. Everyone was confused on where to put their items. It would be helpful to have a sign with the items that they are providing, and where they go. What items are compostable, are the plates, napkins, cups, etc.? Reading the generic sign is not helpful. Most people just threw everything into one bin, because they didn't know what to do.
Also note, that this hotel has a $20+ resort fee. I'm not sure why. There were no extra amenities that were provided. The valet parking is $60/day!!! There are other lots nearby that are less, though I'm not sure about the security there. Don't bring a car, if you don't have to do so that's for sure!

We found the beds super comfortable. They were a medium firmness. We don't like hard and we're very cosy.
It would be a good 15-20 mins walk with luggage. However you could easily catch the tram which is about 2 mins around the corner. Though I do not know what rules they have regarding luggage. It would a flat walk as the hotel is is not in a particularly elevated area. It would be down a small incline on the way down but walking along the what is flat.
