My boyfriend and I got a little lost exploring town and found this place. We decided to eat dinner here and words can't even describe how good the food tasted in our mouths. The best dinner I have ever eaten.

I have eaten many meals over the years and have been entertained by top quality musicians. I haven't had the need to stay at the Inn,because I live in Bar Harbor. The atmosphere is very friendly and the customers mingle with each other, even if they are only meeting for the first time. The food is delicious and cooked to...

What a great place to stay! This is a charming, cozy B&B with an associated restaurant and pub. At the pub, we enjoyed conversations with locals, guests of the Inn, and others tourists stopping for a meal. They serve breakfasts and dinners; both are excellent. We stayed four nights in early October, and by the time we left, we felt...

An intimate pub attached to the inn with a limited but accomplished menu. My wife had the cioppino first night and remarked it was the best she ever tasted. I had a perfectly prepared burger with an excellent side salad of cucumbers with goat cheese and red onions. We also enjoyed the curried mussels and a great steak. Service was...

I cannot say enough about this place. It's beautifully decorated with friendly staff. I loved the fact that you could have dinner in the restaurant and pub and the food was excellent. A lot of ppl local would eat at the restaurant, its not just for the ppl staying at the Inn. We ate there 3 nights out of 4...

We just spent 2 nights at this fabulous Inn. The location was great for walking around Bar Harbor. We felt our room was an authentic New England experience. If you're looking for 5 star modern furnishings this Inn isn't for you. There were great choices for breakfast. We had dinner there one night and it was the best meal I've...

We chose the Black Friar because of its more European/British style of accommodation. B&B's can be too close quarters, whether with hosts or other guests, yet we still wanted something with character. The pub offered a place to be social if we felt like it. However, I would say it is seemed more of a dining room with a bar,...

Loved our trip here, charming little inn with great service and an amazing breakfast each day. Walking distance to everything in Bar Harbor and was cheaper given the experience. This is not a 5 star resort and if you're very picky about a big room and bathroom, better go somewhere else, you come here for a unique and charming experience.

My wife and I spent 4 nights at the property and had an amazing time. The room was a nice inn style room with the great feature of a wonderful breakfast every morning. The people are very nice and we even had dinner one night that was amazing. Since we love beer having the pin style bar at the inn...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Black Friar Inn and Pub is a hidden gem; once you find it we guarantee you will be back! Our three story building is mostly constructed from materials salvaged from the mansions that burned in the great fire of 1947. All of the finishing work in the Blackfriar was once part of the time when the steamboats greeted our shores and Bar Harbor was called Eden. Although there doesn't seem to be any new ghost here, you will occasionally feel residual energy coming from all around you. Especially if it's nighttime. And you're here. By yourself. Don't be frightened off, when you walk in our friendly and super accommodating staff is there to greet you, get you settled in and feeling at home. Chef Don does a superb job in our cozy kitchen whether you feel like a burger or a fine bottle of wine with a perfectly cooked steak. Jenny, Michelle, Taylor and Brittany are very capable barmaids with dynamite personalities and lots of specialty drinks to try. Fryer Tom is the heart of the Friar, the owner and innkeeper, he is laid back and has a wonderful hands-on approach to ownership. We are happy family here at the Blackfriar so come by, take a tour, grab a beer and let us make you feel like part of it! ... more   less
