My husband and I have stayed here twice in 10 years. You must have a car on Molokai. Rental cars are affordable. There are no buses and only two taxis. It's a small island. If you can't explore and make your own fun don't go. This is the most laid back island of them all. Not touristy at all. Enjoy the coffee and macadamia nut farms, the beauty of the quiet beaches and beautiful scenery. If you want night life, lots of recreation, fancy pools and amenities, go to another island. This is Molokai. Enjoy it for what it is.

The apartment is the whole downstairs of her house. It's a little dated, a bit worn, but we thought it was great. Space to stretch out. We opened the windows and turned on the fans and listened to all the birds talking- felt like we were in a jungle. Loved the breakfasts Cheryl cooked. She knows EVERYTHING about the island and, honestly, her briefing was too much for my head to hold. If you have a question about Molokai, she has the answer. I left a bag of clothes behind by accident and Cheryl kindly posted them to me on Maui.

Large spacious apartment, we were the only guests. That was nice. However, the cleanliness leaves an awful lot to be desired. The beds, the couches, everything's covered in dust. Couldn't even use the toaster because it was filthy. There were coffee remains and food particles in the utensils drawer. Paint pealing in the bathroom. Hair in the tub. Electrical outlets covered in duct tape... To top it all off, the owner is always in your face, sits at breakfast with you, walks into the apartment whenever she wishes without regard of one's own privacy. Iffy wi fi.

Ka Hale Mala was an amazing experience for us on Molokai. We were going over from Kauai to celebrate our anniversary and wanted to stay at a bed breakfast. I found it by chance and couldn't have been happier! Our hostess met us at the airport to guide us back to Ka Hale Mala which is the entire down stairs of a home with a full kitchen. Right away she sat us down and helped us design our entire visit, so that we could maximize our time. She was dead on with her recommendations and we had a great time at the paddlers in for dinner and live music with Lono. Our entire visit was centered around a visit to Kalaupapa by mule which was canceled the night before unfortunately. Our hostess jumped right on the phone and helped us rebook with a hike in time for the next morning. Additionally she prepared us the most amazing breakfast with a special gluten free quiche for my gluten sensitive spouse with fresh papaya and molokai coffee:) I can't wait to go back someday!

Love the place and Cheryl is awesome. She picked us up in the airport and gave us very detailed things to visit and tips. We had a wonderful breakfast too and had a great time visiting with her and telling us more about the island.
