This is a great place to stay. It is convenient to the airport and the Road to Hana and Paia, as well as being a short walk into Makawao (great to walk as the parking is a problem there). The host Cherie is really helpful and friendly and we enjoyed the communal breakfast which had delicious fresh local fruit, cereals...

Aloha and Mahalo for your review. I am glad that you enjoyed your Upcountry visit. Quirky is a good description..I guess I like quirky :) I do date the old photo as circa early 1900's, just so nobody expects a sprawling pasture land. That would be lovely, but, life has grown up around us. Makawao still maintains the charming old...

We absolutely adored the Hale Ho'okipa...almost as much as we adored its owner. Cherie was full of great information for our planned hikes and drives around Maui. The breakfast was TO DIE FOR so delicious--the fresh fruit, yogurt, and cereal are simple but perfect. She also let us use the kitchen to cook our own eggs. We were sad to...

Hale Ho-okipa in Makawao is located at the crossroads of upcountry Maui, and yet only 10 minutes from Paia (lunch, shopping) and Baldwin beach (surf, turtles). From here you can take a different path everyday for a completely different experience of Maui. We enjoyed Kula and Ulupalakua (french bakery, art gallery, winery.) We explored Haleakala (wow!), Haiku (food trucks), Polipoli...

This is a nice historic B&B in a small artsy town of Makawao. Great location for exploring upcountry Maui. If you are into old antique charm, this place is for you. Breakfast was lovely - freshly cut fruits, yoghurt, cereal and we could prepare our own eggs in the kitchen. Our room (Jasmin) was nicely decorated although quite small as...

This stay was during a very wet and rainy period. The dehumidifier and heaters are a great comfort during storms. The very wet few days likely stirred up some critters. I work hard on keeping them outside, and ask guests to please store food in the kitchen not to attract any insects. I do not use poison on the property....

We felt like we sank back into another time at Hale Ho'okipa! I can't even begin to describe the care and time spent on detail in this historic B&B. There are just layers and layers of history and the romance of old Hawaii here. Cherie is a "renaissance woman" and you can feel what she has put into it here....

Cherie is a gracious host. She lets guests put food in the kitchen fridges. The house is super charming, dating 1924. The rooms are quaint and lovely, with an air cooler that works wonderfully well. Breakfast is very nice, and you can cook eggs if you want to (she provides them). Sometimes Heather was serving breakfast, she's so funny and...

My husband and I stayed at the Hale Ho'okipa Inn back in February. Our room was comfortable and we absolutely loved the abundance of fresh fruit served at breakfast every day - much of which is grown on the property. The rest of the breakfast selection is fantastic, as well. We appreciated being able to use the fridge and kitchen...

It was a privilege to stay in this beautiful historic home built in 1924 which once housed a family with 13 children. The current owner Cherie, has painstakingly restored and cared for the house and the landscaping. Cherie is such a gracious hostess and made my wife and family feel very welcome. It was like a home away from home.

We stayed at the Hale Ho'okipa Inn for two. Overall, it was a pleasant stay. The house and room were nice, and the location is a good home base for exploring central/western Maui.
