Nestled on the shores of Kaanapali Beach, the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa garners praise for its stunning location and friendly, attentive service, although some guests have noted inconsistencies. While the atmosphere is enriched with Hawaiian music and ceremonies, opinions on value and amenities are mixed; reviewers appreciate the clean facilities but criticize additional fees and the lack of vibrancy in the pool area.
Room experiences vary, with some guests enjoying the space and cleanliness, while others are disappointed by dated aspects and maintenance issues.

Detailed Reviews
The location on this resort was far superior to any other Ka’anapali option and, during the holiday season, less expensive than some of the other more Disney-esque resorts. We enjoyed the level of customer service from both Noah at the front desk and the manager who handled my check-out concerns. Snorkeling at Black Rock is right there. Easy walking distance to Whaler’s Village and just a generally picturesque property. Very nice beach access and the vibe fit our family very well. After visiting a couple other places where my family was staying the same week, I am convinced this is the best beach and, despite my comments below, I would still recommend this as a good place to stay in Ka’anapali. In the future, we will save our money to stay in a different part of West or South Maui.
All that said, we were not informed ahead of time that the property was undergoing a renovation (this should have been on the website), but it appears both the other big name resorts were also undergoing renovations at the same time and nobody bothered to inform their guests, so maybe this is SOP in this area? The big result is that meals were a nightmare, especially traveling with kids who were not eating on their normal meal time schedule. There was no lobby bar available for a quick snack or even a nightcap. The food and beverage options were severely limited during the day unless you were eating at very specific meal times or were willing to take a single option with a long wait (I was also given conflicting information about the options by the concierge vs the front desk so ended up trekking all over the resort looking for food). It took an hour for my daughter’s kids quesadilla to arrive cold at the pool bar (not our first choice...she was exhausted and just need a quick snack before a nap but that wasn’t an option). The breakfast buffet appeared to be in a makeshift meeting room with pipe and drape dividers...felt a little like a cruise ship. The Rock Salt restaurant wasn’t even a thing...it was just a rotating set of temporary venues that moved around all day. We ended up not using our breakfast tickets the last day because we just couldn’t deal with the cattle call situation. We arrived back at the hotel at 930pm on Christmas Night and were informed that not only were all the venues closed, but we could also not get any food or cocktails delivered to our room. We ended up going to bed hungry and frustrated. With so many international travelers, it is astounding that the whole place shuts down so early, especially when seating is limited by construction and wait times for food are ridiculous.
As a resolution, the front desk manager did give us a significant discount off our room (she basically refunded our upgrade fee) and I appreciated her level of true professionalism in the interaction. If you can plan ahead for sustenance then this place is a good bet for having a great time during the day. I think this place has good bones and good potential, but staff needs training and there should have been much more transparency when booking regarding the impacts of the renovation.

Second time staying here on points. Last year we received free parking and buffet breakfast, which is why we chose to stay here again. This year although we received free buffet breakfast we were told starting in February it would only be continental breakfast. There was no mention that they now charge for parking until we asked when we got the bill upon checkout. We are titanium elite and were told it’s only for ambassador status. We stayed 100 nights but didn’t make the $20,000 minimum. Not sure if this is a hotel policy or Bonvoy policy but $25 on top of the resort fee is excessive, especially when there isn’t enough parking spots at times and people end parking on the grass or cross-hatched spots. Marriott Bonvoy is making it hard in general to stay loyal.
The view from our room in building 6 was amazing! The room however needed a deep cleaning. The carpet and pillows were disgusting! The carpet was worn and stained and the pillows were flat and discolored. We asked for new pillows but they were just as bad so we ended up going to Ross and buying new ones so we could get a comfortable night sleep. The mattresses were very stiff and uncomfortable. Housekeeping does NOT replace the glasses with new ones but instead wipes the used ones and puts them back. This I know 100%. Yuck!
The hotel has changed since last year. I don’t know if there’s a change in management but we will probably look somewhere else to stay next year when we return to Maui.

Not sure where all the negative reviews have come from but this resort did not disappoint. We may have found a new home on Maui.
Upon arrival we did have to spend one night in a double as a king was unavailable but we were upgraded to building 6 which is on the other side of black rock with unbelievable views of the ocean, Lanai and Molokai. The staff at check in was great and very helpful. The bell and valet were disappointing, none seem to be very excited to do any work and tried to talk us out of using some of their service. Housekeeping staff and all other hotel staff was extremely friendly and always greeted you with a smile and warm Aloha.
The rooms are very modern, at least in building 6, and clean. No issues with any sort of critters or cleanliness. Housekeeping could be a little pushy to get the room to clean it though.
The pool and amenities here are top notch, its location on the beach is the best on this stretch of sand. Black rock shelters the ocean and the pool area from the winds. Spent the entire trip at the pool watching whales 50 yards off the shore.
Used the workout facility every day and it has a good selection of cardio and a good selection of weight machines and dumbells. Was busy every morning but never waited for a treadmill or a weight machine. Showers available in the facility as well which is great for clean up if you have a late flight out and want to use the resort.
Overall we were very happy with the Sheraton Maui and will be back.

We just stay at the Sheraton for the first time (we've been to Maui many times).
After traveling and being up for 30 hours, when we checked in, we were given a (leftover)garden view room with 2 double beds when we had booked a king ocean view room. STRIKE ONE! They apologized and offered to move us in 2 days when they had what we booked available. This room also had small gnat like bugs in the bathroom that crawled on everything that I brought to their attention and did nothing about. They don't seem to understand the inconvenience in your vacation time. We stuck around the hotel that day and asked the they call us when the new room was ready. They did call, we went directly to the room and waited 1.5 hours until I went to the lobby and asked for a cart to move ourselves.
I was told they couldn't do that, they'd send a bellman. FINALLY, we were moved to what we had requested and there were the same bugs in that bathroom!
Now aside from it being tired looking and needing updated, the rooms were nice sized, the bathroom nice and big with full view mirrors on the bathroom doo s and good lighting. They had free water pouches you could fill at free water stations throughout and also free reef safe sun screen stations like soap dispensers. The beach is beautiful and it's in a good location for walking to various shops and restaurants. It's too bad it's tired and outdated and now managed well because it does have some good features. We won't recommend it nor stay here again.

Beautiful complex located on the best part of the beach in Kaanapali. We loved staying here for its wonderful service, beautiful rooms and amenities, and convenient location.
We were located in a deluxe ocean view room in building 2 on the 5th floor. Building is one of the furthest fro. The main building and Black Rock but we loved how quiet it was, it’s views and it’s close proximity to parking. The balconies get smaller as you go higher but it was comfortable and was a great spot to relax and enjoy the gorgeous view of Black Rock. Rooms are super quiet and comfortable; we had the most restful sleep. The room layout is generously sized, modern, clean, great water pressure, and has all the amenities you’d expect in a higher end resort room. Water bottle filling stations are a bit of a hike, they are close to the main building and only located on every other floor.
Beach is literally at your doorstep and is wide, perfect white sand to walk into the ocean, and the water is calm since it’s sheltered by Black Rock. Snorkeling is a must with lots of small fish right off the beach, we even saw a turtle! Beach to the North is more narrow and walks out into a coral reef, if you like to play in the surf or lie on the sand with lots of room between yourself and your neighbours, this is the beach to be on. Pool is a beautiful lazy river but is usually full of families during the day, we didn’t spend a lot of time here.
All the staff are super friendly, and helpful. Location is great for relaxation with lots of other beaches nearby and a very quick beach front walk to Whaler’s Village. Self parking is reasonably priced and a car is almost a must to see Maui. We never had an issue getting a parking spot.
The only drawback is the food situation. Over 5 days of staying there, the restaurants on site were always booked. Our only options were the Cliff Dive Bar or Sandbar which are very expensive for what you received. Food is plated and priced exactly like room service at the Cliff Dive bar, with covered melamine containers and disposable utensils. We had the most expensive mediocre chicken fingers here. Sandbar is really just for drinks and snacks at night but is a great place for coffee and breakfast items during the day. Coral Reef is not a restaurant, it’s a dining room that we only saw open once for a large tour group. We were forced to go off property for most meals, no te that all the area restaurants were booked solid so be prepared to put your name in and wait 35-60 min for a table. This wasn’t even during the March break when the hotels will be full!
Overall an amazing stay and would love to return for another relaxing holiday!

On the K strip this is definitely the best location with the widest beach and most room and you feel less packed in between hotels. It was probably one of the first hotels here so it has the most room with a big lawn, etc. The new lobby and rooms look good. I'm not going to talk about how expensive everything is as you can read many reviews about this but it is typically priced for Maui. I have to say charging for beach chairs on the beach is a ridiculous practice that every hotel is doing now and it should stop since it gets people annoyed rather than happy. This is also one of those hotels where people put their towel down before 8am and never seem to reappear and they do nothing about it. Pet Peeve on that. Maybe you have to stay at a Four Seasons for that not to happen in Hawaii. I would say if you want a hustle bustle in Hawaii this is the place for you if you do not I would not go to Kaanapali at all.

We booked the Sheraton through Costco and had a hiccup when we arrived because they didn’t honor the types of rooms we requested. Apparently, you are only guaranteed the number of beds you request if you book directly through the hotel not through Costco so take note! Anyway they wanted to charge us extra for the roll away beds for both rooms. We had to speak to a manager and eventually it was resolved. James was very apologetic and found us a great solution. Thank you James!
The rest of our stay was outstanding! We love the Sheraton property because it’s a large property and even though all of Kaanapali beach was crowded, the resort never felt that way. The valet, room service, restaurants all gave the best customer service and we were very happy with our experience!
The only thing I would say is if you like the new, clean resort feel, you may feel the Sheraton is not up to your standards. The rooms are dated, they need new rugs, new showers, and so on. But we rarely spent time in there so we can look past all of that because the location in my book is 5 stars!
Thank you Sheraton staff for a great stay!

We had a wonderful stay at the Sheraton in Maui and will definitely return to stay there on our next travels to Maui. Upon check-in we were greeted with the sweetest lady to check us in who was very personable. I told her we were on vacation to celebrate my daughter‘s high school graduation. She was very honest upon check in to let us know the room that we were being given was not a great one given it was right next to the elevators, which on my Bonvoy list of requirements is a room not near an elevator since I’m a very light sleeper. She stated she would talk to her manager to see about getting us a better room the following day as they were sold out. She was right the first room was not great, however the room we were moved to the next day in building two was larger and just amazing with the views. We found the beds very comfortable the rooms are very clean and spacious. The best part was the view from the balcony it is one you can never get tired of and feel very grateful every time you open up those curtains and look out!! The pools were crowded we actually only went in them a few times and instead spent most of our time on the beach. We had a few meals at the cliff dive bar which were good for a quick lunch or easy dinner.
I also enjoyed the Rise and Shine yoga class offered at the resort that we did outside with a wonderful instructor! What a great way to start the day!
When we arrived in Maui, we went to Costco and bought chairs and umbrellas that we just planned on leaving there rather than having to rent them each day. It worked out perfectly. I would walk the beach each morning from one end of the resorts to the other and I have to say I feel the Sheraton had the best grounds of any of the hotels in the area. We will without a doubt stay at the Sheraton on our next trip to Maui.

All of the staff members were so friendly, helpful, and accomodating (literally everyone: waiters, concierge, housekeepers, pool staff (Shawn was the best!) security guards, valet...). Very clean property/rooms and they took thoughtful precautions during COVID. This hotel is dated, but it had everything we needed for our stay and one must remember it's one of the original Maui resort hotels, built in the 1960s. I think the whole place had great character, and guests can even take the elevator to the top to see the original lobby space. Great time to walk the beach was in the AM before crowds showed up. The pool area definitely got crowded by mid-morning; hotel staff started handing out wristbands to distinguish hotel guests from non-hotel guests, but not sure this alleviated anything... I do not have kids, but this seemed like a great hotel/resort to take kids to. All of the food was terrific, although the cocktails were a little too watered down for my taste (compared to other drinks we had around Maui). Super convenient that this hotel was within walking distance to several other attractions in the area. Honestly, I wish I had spent more of my vacation time just relaxing here and taking advantage of all that this resort had to offer. This is a great location to snorkel, listen to live music in the evenings, and renting a Casa Bella for $45/day is definitely worth it!

We had a fantastic time at the Sheraton. Below are our pros and cons:
Pros: location, location, location! Located on beautiful black rock beach in a gorgeous setting. You can walk to Whaler’s Village and amazing restaurants. We enjoyed being towards end of Black Rock beach, less crowds and felt more peaceful. Resort was beautiful and well maintained. We enjoyed the pool cabanas and amenities at pool including shaved ice, cocktails and food. Valet staff were so incredibly kind, grabbing us beach towels and waters, always asking how our day was. Housekeeping quick and on time each day. Overall we really enjoyed it.
Cons: rooms are older. You don’t walk into your room and go “wow.” Our room was $800 per night - at that rate you expect things like bathrobes, soft towels and non scratchy toilet paper and Kleenex, none of which were there. I would have expected nice toiletries, also not there. Rooms very small. Also, what bothered us the most was how early they closed things. Last call for pool cabana service was 3:15, with the mai tai bar closing at 4pm (food service didn’t start until 11am). Shaved ice closed at 4pm. Why not keep things open until at least 6pm? Just too early and made our cabana days short and rushed. Also, Coral Reef breakfast buffet was forgettable and the Sand Bar breakfast was just not good. Despite all this, we would stay again!
