We stayed for 5 nights in April 2018. We were very happy with location and staff & waiters (Gabriel-beach services, Bibian- house keeping and the wonderful receptionist who checked us in in particular made our stay even more pleasant). Hotel layout was great for families...More

My family spent 3 days at the Westin April 4-6th. We were in the Beach Tower in an Oceanfront room on the third floor. The view from our room was amazing. I do suggest a higher room as our entire floor reeked of mildew. The...More

This is a family resort and NOT good for couples. Also the hotel chain owns all the properties along the beach and guests from the other hotels are allowed to use the amenities here which makes it more crowded. Don't rent a car too!! This...More

The short answer is yes but to the experienced traveler its "not necessarily." Upon check in they have us sign the agreement to pay the room rate, taxes, and resort fees. At this point only taxes are non negotiable. Resort fees just like room rates are always negotiable but when and how that negotiation happens is key. Resort fees are a separate line item of your bill just like state and local taxes. Per the hotel website it charges $30 per day on resort fees but their list of resort services does not say anything about self parking. Valet parking will cost you $30 per day but again they never mention self parking fees which unless you sign something then legally self parking is free parking. That is the first reason you can negotiate such fees. As of now if you drive a car which all of us likely had to do to get from the airport to the hotel then the only resort services that we might use is the WiFi, a lei greeting and 2 bottles of water each day. The main desk folks don't have to take off any fees from your bill but upon check in you are far more likely to get some understanding that the fee is too much for the service offered. Finally if you smile like in your picture, if you are a SPG member, if you rented one of the better rooms, if you rented several, if you charged the meals, drinks and other purchases to your room, if you treat the servers and staff with respect and appreciation and if you tip fairly than they see you are a great and valued customer that any good management will be more than happy to take it off your bill and maybe even comp other services. For instance I didn't need to really negotiate free valet parking because we tipped the attendants good, called them by their names, smiled. talked and joked with them so that at time of checkout the right folks knew our names and faces.
