The Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa is often celebrated for its prime location, offering scenic views and easy access to local attractions. Guests have called out the resort's exceptional service and the immaculate state of its amenities and grounds. While some travelers find the vibrant atmosphere, complete with live music, to be a bit too noisy, the extensive and well-maintained amenities, especially the pools and lagoon, are popular highlights.
However, opinions on value are mixed, with many deeming the resort overpriced due to high food costs and additional fees. Also, rooms receive mixed reviews, with cleanliness and views applauded but some criticism directed at dated decor and maintenance.

I am very stingy about my 5 star reviews, but this is a 5 star resort. The grounds are spectacular. Lush tropics, water everywhere, a lazy river, water slide and adult only pools. The grounds are just beautiful. You enter via an open air lobby. Staff is very friendly, from the concierge to housekeeping. Learn how to say Aloha and Mahalo a lot. The grounds are quite large and spread out, which some may not appreciate. As for the rooms, they are spacious and ours, which was 6135, seemed updated with a view of the pools and ocean. There was plenty of storage space and a lot of power outlets. Lighting overall was good and the bed was very comfortable. We had a coffee maker and refrigerator. As a nice touch, you will receive refillable water bottles to be used at their water filling stations. Each building also has free laundry, including supplies (the dryer gets very hot, so consider a much lower setting than usual). There is also a balcony with a couple of chairs. The hallways themselves are a bit dated and it looks like the carpeting in the common areas could use a refresh.
Each day, the hotel has vendors selling various items in the main lobby and there are many stores within the hotel.
This is not a property where you will want to go into the ocean, though, as it is dangerous, but they took care of that by having an enclosed lagoon with sand. There are more accessible beaches not far away. They do have shuttle to Poipu, but this is a place where you will want your own car. Self parking is included in your resort fee, or it is $40/day for valet.
Restaurants are good, but pricey. We did the luau and it was very nice with very good food (avoid the poi. Most people hate it). The staff goes out of their way to make you feel welcome.
One complaint is the cost for cabanas is quite high. We did it one day, and it does come with set up and a bucket of water and fruit drinks. There are nicer lounges near the base of the lazy river. The ones in the adult pool area are okay, but not as nice.
Overall, it was a terrific, though expensive, experience. If we go back to Kauai I can't imagine staying anywhere else.

Our honeymoon at the Grand Hyatt was absolutely magical! The location couldn’t have been more perfect—romantic ocean views, a peaceful atmosphere, and every detail just right. The hotel itself was not only spotless but also super easy to explore, with the added bonus of a lazy river and 24/7 pool access that felt like pure luxury. We floated through our stay in total relaxation!
Our room was a quiet oasis, offering breathtaking views of the ocean, making it the perfect spot to unwind. But the real stars of our experience were the incredible staff—so attentive and always ready to make our stay extra special.
One of the highlights? The Library restaurant. Every bite was a revelation, and we didn’t have a single meal that wasn’t absolutely delicious.
Oh, and the free shuttle service? A game changer! It felt like we had our own personal VIP Uber, with friendly drivers who made getting around a breeze.
We’re already counting down the days until our next stay—Grand Hyatt, we’ll definitely be back for more unforgettable memories!

I hesitated a very long time before finally pushing that book button due to the extremely high cost of this resort, but it was worth it. Especially when I looked at what I almost booked down the road for just slightly less. Hyatt was a true resort. The pool is amazing and they keep is sparkling clean. Prior to our arrival we had been staying at a hotel in Waikiki staff there horrible, hotel dirty and was not relaxing. It a so nice to be warmly greeted by staff here into the beautiful lobby. The room was a bit worn but very clean and well appointed with plenty of space to unpack and store items. The view from our lanai was beautiful overlooking the grounds and ocean. We stayed in the poipu wing. The walk didn't seem as far as people complain about, we were on vacation and enjoyed the walk. This wing does overlook where the convention groups have their parties and the luau so it can be a bit loud and we did have to call down as the convention karaoke was getting old after three hours of loud, bad singing. The free laundry was a great benefit and we spent the first day around the pool and running back and forth doing laundry. They had All free and clear and some dryer sheets. Laundry was never crowded. Another great perk was the beach chairs and umbrella check out. They were wonderful and we used them a few times to check out local beaches. Don't forget to get your suntan lotion from the same desk, its a generous portion of Sunbum sunscreen. Even though the hotel was fully booked several days during our stay, it never felt crowded. We never had trouble find chairs with umbrellas at the pool. Parking was never an issue either, there was always a space. Our only disappointment was the choice of food on site. There wasn't much variety. Pool food was good but they close too try to make it dinner. After that its all fancy, expensive type food. Room service had some decent options but was a bit pricey since they add 20% gratuity onto it. Would love to go back but it may take us another 30 years to save up the money.

The resort is massive, gorgeous and lush. We loved that we can use the pool, gym, lazy river and hot tubs 24/7. We had no problem getting beach chairs and pool towels. We enjoyed the koi feeding at Tidepools in the morning. The salt water lagoon is fantastic and a great alternative to the beach. Valet was great in getting our car ready for us out front (call them with your ticket # before leaving your room). The purified water stations scattered in the property are a great idea! The swan view at Ilima is sooo relaxing. The luau on Wednesdays and Saturdays are viewable from the seats outside of the function rooms. Stand out service that we want to acknowledge: bartender George at Stevenson’s, Richard at Dondero’s bfast and Fernan at Ilima Terrace - these guys are so friendly & helpful!
We were disappointed with the taste and quality of the food overall specifically at Dondero’s lounge like a) their very dry and tasteless loco moco, b) rubbery meat skewers that were undercooked it stuck together, c) onion soup at Ilima’s that was like stale broth, d) so-so $22 Kalua pork quesadilla, e) sushi pizza at Stevenson’s that was semi-hard cardboard, among others. The slow service in the main dining room of Stevenson’s was disappointing as well, we should have remained in the bar. We were prepared to pay Hawaii (inflated) prices for food so it’s rather disappointing to have mediocre grub. Glad we had a rental car to check out the food scene in Poipu and Lihue. A bit of a drive but Kapaa and Hanalei have better dining options.
Also: The spa isn’t accessible to Globalists anymore unless you have an appointment for a paid service.
The resort is aesthetically beautiful but this Hyatt needs to up their food quality & taste to match the top dollar they charge.

Beautiful grounds, many options for pools and was always able to find chairs for 8 people. Incredibly friendly and helpful staff, especially around the pool and lagoon area. They were very attentive and always somewhere close by. The resort has great food at restaurants, as well as pool side. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The room was always cleaned every day without fail and towels, shampoo, body wash, toilet paper and soap were restocked daily.

My wife and I took our children and grandchildren to Kauai (12 of us), and stayed at the Grand Hyatt. We had an extraordinarily great experience. We are very experienced travelers, and came with high expectations, and our expectations were consistently exceeded. Here are some of the highlights:
The facilities are absolutely gorgeous. This was my 7th trip to Hawaii, and I thought this was the nicest hotel we've experienced there, especially considering we had people that ranged from age 5 to age 74. The pools and lagoon were beautiful and expansive. The rooms were very well soundproofed...we never heard anybody.
The service was consistently extraordinary. I could go through numerous examples, but there were so many occasions in which employees took it upon themselves to make us have a great experience.
The common spaces were more than adequate to serve the hotel population. No lines at the restaurants, even for a party of 12. Lots of pool chairs in the shade. It never felt crowded, despite the fact that the hotel was fully booked when we were there.
While the hotel is pricey, of course we knew that going in, and once there we were never hit for small things. Internet, beach chairs, parking, and the like were all covered.
There was a good range of restaurant choices at various price points. Tidepools, their premium restaurant was wonderful, but the poolside restaurant was great as well, as was the Seaview Cafe'.
We had a scheduling issue on an event, and when I brought it up with them they went WAY over and beyond to make things right.
We all had an absolutely wonderful experience at the Grand Hyatt Kauai, and I can't give it a stronger recommendation. It was our favorite family vacation ever!

Parts of the hotel, including the rooms, could use a refresh for the rates they charge. Grounds/landscaping were BEAUTIFUL throughout and the pools and outdoor areas were my favorite part of this resort. Tidepools was super disappointing - do yourself a favor and go to Beach House instead if you are looking for a nice dinner!

We experienced warmth and kindness upon arrival. This was especially appreciated after a very long and exhausting travel day. Property is beautiful and impeccably kept. Rooms are clean, spacious and Well-appointed. The beds were comfortable; sheets were high-quality. The hotel provides a complimentary water bottle (which becomes a very nice souvenir) and ice-cold, great-tasting filtered water machines on each floor. Pool is clean and has many great features (water slide, lazy river, hot tub island, adults only area, waterfalls, freshwater pool, salt water pool/lagoon). I traveled with my sister to celebrate her 50th birthday. The room was beautifully decorated and made her feel so special! Shipwrecks Beach behind the hotel is a beautiful and clean beach. The only disappointment was the room service menu and I feel the breakfast buffet is too expensive for guests of the hotel.

We experienced the spirit of aloha like never before during our short but incredible stay at GHK. I was warmly greeted by Eric at the front desk and my GOH award was honored with an ocean view room upgrade. My husband's birthday was acknowledged with champagne & a card - he was duly impressed by the level of hospitality.
We had access to the Grand Club where the staff were constantly cleaning & diligently replenishing the various stations. The maze of pools were beautifully maintained, my kids refuse to swim in pools with any bugs, dirt, or algae - these pools were immaculate. I just didn't realize our first evening that the pool towers were at the valet by the entrance to the hotel after the recreation window closes, so I walked around in circles for awhile before I was able to figure out where the towels were.
The spa facilities were simple but nice to have access to, though I'm glad I was there when no one else was there since the shower curtains in the open air lava showers blow around with the wind (my husband informed me that the men's side had no curtains, which didn't bother him).
The only hiccup during our stay were two $200+ room charges for onsite meals that we didn't make. I called to have 1 removed. But another charge showed up when I checked out which took some time to sort out. Overall, I can't think of another Hyatt property that could match this level of hospitality. Even though it's an older property, the stately buildings & the extensive colorful gardens & ground (I admit I was a little skeptical whether GHK could live up to its reputation prior to my stay because of its age) are spectacular, I would absolutely return in a heartbeat!

Once again, an outstanding stay. This place is pure magic, service is simply unbeatable. Book a stay here, and you will not regret it.
Grand Club staff always exceed expectations. They welcomed us back like old friends, worked hard to keep the dining areas spotless, sanitary and replenished, cheerfully handled special dietary requests, and provided the highest level of hospitality. This incredible staff continues to provide the best club experience in the world... mahalo to Amy, Ana, Renee, Alexis, Justin, Cindi, Samantha, Kieran, Victoria, Erika, and the other new staff members too!
Also sending a big mahalo to Celeste and Christine for making us feel like welcome guests each time, and for the beautiful suite accommodations (Globalist SUA used) and amenities.
We have known the Wildlife Team for over 10 years, and we are always very happy to see them. They do a phenomenal job caring for all the wildlife. It is heartwarming to see how bonded the birds are to them... please keep this fabulous team (Kolo, Mackenzie and Jen) happy in their jobs, because the wildlife need them! It warms our hearts to see how well cared for the wildlife at Grand Hyatt Kauai are. This says a lot about the management at this resort.
Anara Spa staff were also friendly, helpful and professional, as always. They kept each area spotless and created a beautiful ambiance for relaxation and serenity.
All staff at Seaview Terrace, Stevensons, and Tidepools were also exceptional. We were given the best tables with wonderful views, and food and service were fantastic. A special shout out to Les at Tidepools, and our servers at Stevensons, who took good care of us and extended much appreciated Kamaaina discounts.
Kudos to all staff and management at Grand Hyatt Kauai who set this resort above all the others. There is no place as beautiful and as welcoming. The aloha spirit can be felt throughout.
A hui hou!
