Let me preface this by saying that we are timeshare owners at this property and have never stayed in the hotel section. We have also been coming here for many years and have always loved this property. There have been many changes over the past few years, some for the better and some not so good. The positives: The rooms in the owners building have recently been renovated and the rooms are much more comfortable than before. The fridge is bigger, murphy bed more comfortable as it the couch, better use of space, better TVs etc. They have done a good job and we understand that next year the hotel section will be upgraded as well. Service is still good and attentive.
The negatives: There used to be 2 areas near the pool to return and receive towels, now there is only one in the farthest corner. It’s quite a long walk from the beach areas. There used to be a snack bar near the pool that was quick and had great food, it is gone. The snack bar has been replaced by Beach Boys equipment rental. That means that non-guests ( including cruise ship passengers/crew) can now rent lounges, umbrellas, etc and use the grass and beach directly in front of the hotel. It has impacted that area. In addition, lounges and beach umbrellas are now allowed on the sand, something that was forbidden before. It appears that people from the nearby sister resort ( The Lagoons) are now allowed to use the hotel lounges, that was not allowed before. The hotel used to offer a free shuttle to the nearby shopping center twice/week, now it only runs on Mondays. All of these new policies have made it less desirable for the owners and hotel guests....
Another change that is not in control of the hotel is that there seems to be an increased number of cruise ships that dock within walking distance of the property. On the days that the ships are in, the beach is busier and noisier. Many of the cruise ship crew seem to enjoy drinking, smoking, and playing loud music....making it unpleasant in the public grass areas and at hotel beach. We have always enjoyed sharing the beach with the locals, but the cruise ship crew/passengers are much less respectful of the area. It also seems that the nearby airport is busier than ever, and the hotel pool and beach area is directly below the helicopter flight path. Loud helicopters fly overhead all day long, sometimes every 5-10 minutes.
We are disappointed with the recent changes and would probably not return if we were not already owners.
Huge Paradise Resort. This resort is beautifully laid out and staff is always extremely friendly and helpful. We had a beachfront room and in a way it was perfect, and other ways not so much. First of all it took us at least 5-8 minutes just to get from the parking lot all the way to our room. And parking lot was was not near big enough for all gassed so we sometimes have to park in a far there parking lineAnd that is not an exaggeration. Valet parking is $45 a day and there was no discount being that we were owners and platinum elite member’s, which was disappointing, but that we accepted and enjoyed our walk when weather permitted. The pool is huge and has a fantastic layout. I heard from a staff member that it is the kargestvoool in the island. It had hot tub’s that were separated and so there was no fighting over hot tub’s like we usually have to do at hotels. On a personal note, I really think there needs to be restrictions on small children and hot tub because the danger is astoundingly really high for a child’s body temperature at that heat. And the children I saw in there wore arm floaties and drank a bottle if that tells you how young they were. Everything was sobgrwat, we ended up buying property at this resort.
The Good: Starting out with the housekeeping staff - they were over the top accommodating, always aiming to please. Had a request - use the Marriott app or phone and they'd be there in no time.
The grounds were wonderful, beautiful gardens, spacious pools, several hot tubs, a koi pond, a nice view of the bay with overlooking mountains. Duke's is right next store - great food and drinks - and other restaurants in walking distance. Centrally located on the island. Easy to get to everything.
The rooms are spacious. We were there for 10 days, and it worked out well to have a decent sized room.
The Bad: The hotel food (other than Duke's) was horrible. The restaurant by the pool had a delightful atmosphere and great staff, but the food was tasteless and the drinks just ok.
I was there for a conference and that food was even worse. A day or so into the conference, I would go out for food rather than eat at the conference because it was inedible.
The Ugly: The A/C system has problems, getting the carpets wet leaving a mildew smell in the rooms. Our first room - the floor was drenched. They moved us, it smelled a bit, but we were tired. The room was nice and spacious, but a few days in, that rug became drenched from the A/C. They responded quickly, and brought up a mega dryer, but it is clear that this happens a lot.
This resort has issues. Until they address them, it will not be great. And it could be - if they brought someone in to upgrade their food service and bar to four stars, and, most importantly, got rid of old smelly rugs and their leaking AC system, it would be quite nice and I would recommend it. At least tile around the AC system so that you don't get wet rugs. The AC system works well, but once the rugs get wet, that smell isn't going away!
Loocated right by the airport with a great view of the bay. Not far from most attractions. I haven't had any meals at the resort as I always like to experience local food and support local businesses. Rooms are pretty clean and staff are friendly as well. I enjoyed my overall experience
My sister has a timeshare here and it was accommodating! As seniors it was difficult to get down to the toilet as well as in the other rest rooms t/o the hotel! The Murphy bed was difficult to get into but comfortable once down! There were plenty of daily activities, pool, bar, beach, and restaurant service was great! Everyone was joyful, friendly, courteous and helpful! We left a few things behind and called! Housekeeping and lost and found had them and sent them to us! We were there a week and once we had a close parking! Otherwise we usually had a long walk back to rooms! Not that we didn't need the exercise, but not convenient when you have an appointment, etc. As owners daily made service should be included, not additional and once in a week! We didn't get additional coffee when we did have housecleaning. We did however love being able to hear the ocean from our room and had a great view!
