Great unit in an awesome location. Oriental/Hawaiian decor very comfortable and welcoming. Extras - like big smart TV and "OK Google" boxes made our 28 day visit enjoyable. Just two issues which were an inconvenience: (1) the ice make was not working when we arrived and only got fixed the day before we left. We had to continually traipse back and forth to the pool clubhouse to get ice. (not what we expected at $750/nite). (2) Halfway thru our stay we arrived from the beach to find the door code had been changed without anyone telling us -- stressful to have to run around and sort it out. Finally a side comment -- kitchen was extremely well equipped -- in fact too many appliances/tools/gadgets that occupied an awful lot of space. Perhaps the owners could place the duplicate and excess "stuff" in their two locked owners closets. Just a thought. A five star unit with a couple of issues that made us downgrade to 4 1/2!

Kolea is a beautiful property in a great location. The grounds are stunning with great access to the beach, shops, walking paths and island attractions. Unit 9M has a lovely view of the ocean -- most two bedroom units do not have ocean views. It is also just a few steps away from the beach club and pool. While completely serviceable, the unit is showing its age. It needs to be refreshed with new paint, a deep clean of woodwork, tile and grout and new carpet. It also needs new living room and lanai furniture. After our visit, I shared my feedback with Waikoloa Rental management and they indicated that the carpets/floors were being cleaned and new furniture was on order. They also said they would share my feedback with the unit owners.
We are rebooked for Kolea in 2023 but in a different unit that has been more recently updated. I think it would be in the owners best interest to invest in some improvements to 9M because it does have a great view and great location.

Beautiful condo rooms in a great location. Short walk to the beach at A-bay and close to the Kings and Queens shops and restaurants. Nice pool/hot tub/fitness room for guests. The room we rented had three bedrooms which was ideal for 5 people (all adults). Large, well-stocked kitchen, large balcony with outdoor bbq and open dining/living space. Nicely decorated. Second floor unit with both stairs and elevator (which only worked 3 out of 6 days). The condo complex is gated so there is not through traffic and ti is very quiet.

We stayed in a 3 bedroom 2 bathroom condo( I think either building #9 or 11) back in Feb/March 2019. It was very spacious, clean and well kept. Air conditioning worked great. The kitchen was big, modern and well stocked with all appliances, large and small as well as any cookware required to cook meals. A patio with a sink, bbq, fridge and furniture was located right off the main open concept living area. Beds were very comfortable and bathrooms were spacious, clean and well lit. The walk to the beach was about 2 min and I min to the pool. We had a garage which did wonders to keep our vehicle cool and a storage shed stocked with all kinds of beach toys, chairs, masks/snorkels etc... There is shopping nearby albeit a little on the expensive side. Hapuna beach is a 15 - 20 min drive to the north and about 20 - 25 min to Kailua-Kona in the south. Scuba, snorkeling tours as well as surf lessons are all within a fairly short drive as is shopping and restaurants and pubs.

Booked online and our host, Gayle, was one of the best we have had. Kind, prompt replies to our many questions about the condo and the beach club.

We have stayed at just about every condo/villa complex in Kohala and Kolea is the only one we have found with direct access to the beach. 5D is only minutes from the beach club and large white sand beach. Pool area is clean and very well laid out, the keiki sand bottom pool was a hit with our son!

Great sunset views from 5D which had a very cool outdoor seating and eating area. Nice grill and small refrigerator outside. Kitchen indoor well equipped with everything you need and high end appliances. Condo is well spaced out with 3 bedrooms, one bedroom set up for all the kids including 2 sets of bunkbeds and 2 pack and plays. Lots of toys, floaties and body boards for the kids. Plenty of towels and fresh linens for the beds. Kingsize in the master, queen in the second bedroom. All bedrooms have private baths which was nice, the master bath has a big soaking tub.

Our experience with Gayle and 5D was beyond our expectations, and Kolea is one of the nicest, cleanest family friendly locations we have stayed at in all of Hawaii. Highly recommended!!

My family absolutely loved our stay in 15C. It’s a fabulous unit and we can’t wait to return one day. We appreciated everything about the condo from the location, to the interior decorating and the kitchen that has everything needed to cook great meals. Highly recommend.

We recently got a chance to get back to the BIG Island of Hawaii and we jumped on it. We have stayed at Kolea in Waikoloa Beach Resort many times but this time we chose a newer villa available Kolea 11C!! Words have a hard time explaining how absolutely stunning this masterpiece is! It takes the cake. From the lanai you can see 4 of the 5 ancient Hawaiian volcanos, you can see the historic fish ponds and yes you can sit and enjoy the beauty of the ocean at A-Bay. The unit is beyond perfection. Two FULL master suites (both with walk in showers and soaking tubs), new furniture, amazing Hawaiian artwork, ceramic tile floors, completely furnished cookware, pocket doors that slide open that bring the outside in, a viking grill and patio set on the lanai, a washer & dryer, coolers, boogie boards, beach chairs and umbrellas, etc. etc. etc. It is a top floor corner penthouse suite which has an elevator if you prefer to not take the stairs. (comes in handy when hauling in groceries). Walking distance to shops and dining and it has a wonderful infinity pool with a lava rock hot tub and private access to the beach. We cannot get back to this gem soon enough!! If you are thinking about a vacation to Hawaii and you don't want the hustle and bustle of O'ahu or Maui then the Big Island is for you. The Island has everything you can possibly imagine and the gated complex of kolea is for you.

We rented Kolea 13B for a family New Year's trip and everyone was so pleased with the condo and the Waikoloa Resort. The view from our lanai was breathtaking and the unit was extremely clean and had comfortable beds and linens. We had everything we needed for a wonderful week, including beach chairs, beach towels, snorkeling gear, and a well-stocked kitchen. We could have spent the entire week in the condo, taking in the view, cooking, relaxing in the beautiful surroundings, but we would have missed out on all the Waikoloa Resort offered. The sandy beach and Kolea Beach Club were fantastic and directly across the street from our unit. Great shopping was only a short walk away as well as several restaurants we enjoyed. Our favorite place to eat was Lava Lava Beach Club, but every meal we had was really good. We spent one afternoon at the Dolphin Encounter at the Hilton and enjoyed the pools there. All in all, it was a wonderful vacation and we will definitely stay at Kolea the next time we return to Hawaii!

We had a family holiday for 2 adults and 4 kids at Kolea in September. It was hands down the best holiday we have ever had. We had unit 6B which we rented through Waikoloa Vacation Rentals - they were a pleasure to deal with. The unit was amazing, huge, had a spectacular view and was just opposite the pool area. Although not large, the pool is lovely and is set in beautiful grounds with a kiddie waterfall area for very young kids and a hot tub. We had a pass to access the Hilton hotel pool next door which was huge and impressive but we didn’t like it nearly as much as the Kolea pool. The apartments are right next to Anaeho’omalu Bay, which is lovely - going down to swim a few kms first thing each morning then grabbing a shower and complimentary coffee back at the pool complex was the best start to the day. Just north of Kolea are a string of beaches you can drive to in minutes which are also beautiful but which have even better snorkelling and coral, and heaps of marine life. An amazing time.

This is our second visit to this resort.
The first time was with adult friends Jan 2919 and the second time with our eldest son, daughter-in-law and 2 grandchildren aged 3yrs & 16 months Fen 2020
Both trips were excellent.
The accommodation here is beyond expectations. The buildings are built well The gardens are beautiful. It’s a quiet resort.
The first time we had a top floor (3rd) 3 bed apartment 13F and this time we had a ground floor 3 bedroom apartment 11A.
Both the apartments were fully equipped.
The resort is child friendly without being child orientated.
The beach club (free) is good for everyone with a main pool and hot tub with free towels provided.
It also has a separate beach pool for the little ones.
The beach is easily accessible and safe, not that great for snorkeling.
The airport is around 40 mins easy drive on the freeway.
There is a good ABC store a short walk away from the resort along with restaurants and shops. There is also a Costco just past the airport towards Kona.
We will be going back and would recommend this resort to anyone.

Yes they do. We had issues with the A/C in that it was set, and we could not lower the temp for nighttime sleeping. It was fine during the day.
