Nestled in a prime location, the Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa receives accolades for its proximity to picturesque beaches and local attractions. While the resort's amenities and cleanliness are widely commended, some guests feel that the value proposition is dimmed by high costs and varying experiences with room quality and service.
Despite the praise for friendly staff and a vibrant pool scene, critiques often point to the need for room renovations and more prompt service to elevate the overall atmosphere.

I felt so welcome at the Waikoloa Beach Marriott resort in Kona, Hawaii. First thing when I drove up, I was greeted immediately by Oren, Kainoa, Allen and Zaly who stored my luggage and gave me wonderful tips about Kona while I waited for the room to be ready. Elizabeth, was so sweet with a big bright smile waiting for me at the front desk check in. She introduced me to Kanani, The Marriott Ambassador. She beamed Aloha and was so helpful towards me. If I had any questions about where to go or if I needed bouquets of Hawaiian flowers to be delivered, she made the flower and lei connection for me. She introduced me to Maile Abram, the food and beverage manager at their lovely restaurant. Maile and her staff, Jenny, Bryan and Jahphia our servers at dinner were so helpful and kind to set such a beautiful table with Hawaiian flowers for 20 of my guests. They were all completely impressed with how everything at the dinner table, was so beautifully set and arranged. We started out with cocktails at The.Paniolo Terrace enjoying the pallet of colors of the sunset and then onto our dinner. The Hawaiian music danced through the air and the warm breeze that wrapped around us was warm and comforting. The wine and the cocktails flowed. the dinner was over- the -top delicious. Lots of laughter and great conversation amongst friends. This is what life is about! To feel the Aloha in your bones. I encourage you to wear a BIG colourful Hawaiian shirt and please wear a BIG flowery MooMoo with lots and lots of flower lei’s. The Hawaiians will love you even more when you show them back the Aloha spirit. Fred

We booked our stay through a Costco package and everything was flawless and perfect! Our room was very comfortable with a nice view of the grounds and sunset. The air conditioning was wonderful to have as it can get hot on the island, so after a long day out exploring the island, it was nice to have a cool room to return to. This hotel is in a great location with A-Bay a very easy walk from the rooms. The sunsets here are really beautiful - with the fishponds in the foreground or right on the beach. So peaceful. The self-parking was easy and I never had trouble finding a spot. There is a restaurant on site and their breakfast and dinners were very good. Also, nearby there are lots of shops with restaurants as well. Waikoloa was a great area to stay in. The thing I enjoyed most about this hotel though was how friendly everyone was. The front desk, housekeeping staff, and every one of their employess that we passed in hallways were so friendly, always greeted us and really gave this hotel an "aloha" spirit. We loved our stay at this hotel!

We stayed at this property for 1 night to celebrate our wedding anniversary. As a titanium elite, I was very impressed with the staff and the reception we received.
Our flight landed in Kona at 9:40 am. We were at the hotel at approximately 10:30 am. Despite the early hour, we were allowed to check in, and even upgraded to a larger corner room with a full ocean view (top floor). We would have been thrilled with just this. But the check-in person did more. When she realized that we had not eaten yet, she gave us a second breakfast voucher (even though we were only staying 1 night) and encouraged us to head right downstairs to have a late breakfast before the restaurant closed at 11 am (which we did... more on that below). She also gave us a voucher for 2 classes of champagne at the bar (to celebrate our anniversary) and, as elite guests, she also comped our parking charge. We were blown away with the way she was bending over backward to ensure that we had a wonderful stay.
The room was very nice, and the property was beautiful. We spent the afternoon enjoying the pools and beach. My only complaint was that the beach itself was very rocky. There was sand, but it only went for a little bit... once you got about knee deep, it was all rocks. In comparison, we spent time at the Mauna Kea and Westin Hapuna resorts, and their beaches were much nicer/sandier. I guess this is why those properties are more expensive.
Elites have access to a free breakfast buffet at the hotel restaurant. While this is technically a 'continental' buffet, we found that it was very filling. We had access to fruit, breads (toast, English muffins, bagels), delicious pastries, cold cuts, cheeses, hard-boiled eggs and waffles. We could have paid extra to add in bacon, hot eggs and custom omelets, but honestly, the continental breakfast was very filling and the extra was not necessary.
The hotel is located near shopping, and it is easy to walk (or drive) to dining options, as well as Island Markets (grocery store) and even a movie theatre.
The hotel has ice machines on each floor. Unlike typical hotel ice machines, the ice is crushed, and there are water dispensers right next to the ice. This makes it very easy to fill up your water bottle at 1 station with ice and water. Oh, and they gave us 2 free reusable water bottles when checking in. This was a really nice touch.
We requested late checkout, and it was granted, so we actually ended up staying at this hotel for over 24 hours. I have never had a hotel property be more welcoming to me, or so willing to fulfill my requests. I rarely write reviews for hotels, but the Marriott Waikoloa Beach is outstanding, and it deserves praise.

There are many wonderful aspects to staying at the Walkoloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa. Their staff is exceptionally caring and dedicated to trying to make their guests happy. Their pools and outdoor grounds are beautiful. There is a separate kids pool and various heated pools and hot tubs on their property. However, the infrastructure of the hotel is in need of a major overhaul and according to a few folks who are staying in the Marriott Timeshares in a separate part of the resort, there is talk of doing a major renovation of the buildings. Over the course of our vacation, we found ourselves in the same elevator where the doors would close but didn’t move! There were a few times we took the stairs down from the fifth floor, rather than risk getting stuck in their elevators. The hotel gives each of their guests lovely i water bottles ( that look insulated but aren’t). and apparently there are ice machines and water dispensers on each floor but the machines on our floor didn’t work and the water dispenser in their lobby worked but it filled our bottles with warm water. While I’m certain, there are lovely rooms in the hotel, for the costs of our room, we were surprised by the oddly shaped guest room we were given. Our bed really didn’t fit in the space and as a result, my wife had to get out of her side of the bed to turn off the light by her night table. We were also puzzled by the noises that the door to our room made when closing! I was tempted to buy some WD-40 to see if that would help but felt that was not really my responsibility! I don’t like sounding so negative and to our surprise, we were delighted to discover that the hotel provides their guests with complementary washing machines and dryers. They even provide detergent free of charge! Of course the washing machines are located in the part of the resort where the timeshares are located but they are available for all of their guests. If you are looking for a timeshare at a resort, you might love staying here but as a hotel guest, you aren’t getting the same treatment. For example, as a hotel guest, we pay $30 to self park our car but if you are a member of the “ club “(and have a timeshare) it’s free. I was startled when I looked at the resort’s “ timeshare amenities” and saw that parking was free but as a hotel guest, we were ch$30 a day to park our own car! It’s one thing if they offered “ Valet Parking “! On a positive note, I think the hotel has not only caring staff members who work in their restaurants and registration desks but their house keepers and maintenance folks were also hard working and dedicated to doing everything to make all the guests happy. While this isn’t a five star review, when you look at the gorgeous grounds, you might still find this resort to be well worth the cost! I just felt like a second class citizen compared to the folks who were in their time share club!

The room was run-down, quite small, and had a musty odor from the air conditioning. To make matters worse, a cockroach ran across the wall. When we requested to move to another room, the only available option was a downgrade. However, at least the new room didn’t have a strong odor, and the cockroach had likely disappeared before we arrived. The front desk was chronically understaffed, and every visit required at least a 15-minute wait. The food was decent but unremarkable. On a positive note, the grounds were well-maintained, and the direct access to the beach was a significant advantage. Overall, the experience was disappointing and vastly overpriced.

an effort to have a relaxing stay away from the big cities and noise - they booked us into a room overlooking an incredibly noisy pool. Thanks to a wonderful front desk person, Cyan, she booked us into a suite overlooking the much quieter side of the resort. As a Marriott titanium member I am a big fan, but NOT of this hotel. It is outdated, you can barely move your luggage across the old carpet to get to your room. The in room coffee is horrible and EVERYTHING has a fee attached, from parking, to breakfast, to better coffee. Definitely OVER priced. If I paid $200 or less a night I might reconsider but even then remember everything has an extra fee.
One other note, the housekeeper was still working in the room to which we were assigned and was astonished we had the room - called her supervisor and he came to check our room key to see if it worked. Then as we were eating while waiting for our room - I received a call asking us to change our room. Why was housekeeping trying to keep us from this room? Very strange experience.
Also the screen door has a hole in it and was really hard to open and close.

Had the misfortune of having to stay here for 2 nights after 7 glorious ones at Westin Hapuna. We extended our stay and the Westin was sold out. We are loyal Marriott customers and have racked up enough points to have titanium elite status. Not that it mattered here whatsoever. The only saving grace was that our SNA request was rejected, but then hotel did move us to a room with a better view.
Location: the hotel is located in the Waikola complex which gives you access to stores and conveniences so you can easily go off resort.
Beach and pool: the beach is beautiful and is very gentle which is great for kids. There are many pools and the slide keeps kids entertained. However, there is very little shade on either. No poolside umbrellas or beachside chair service. Unlike the Westin which has extensive pool side and beach chair service
Parking: parking is 25 bucks with valet parking suspended for now. Somehow the Westin can still have valet parking
Cleanliness and comfort: the rooms are updated but are very small and feel congested. The beds are very uncomfortable, the springs squeaked even under the kids. The patio is likewise tiny and very unimpressive. Our first day there, the drain was fully clogged and engineering spent a good 15 minutes rooting it. How housekeeping had not noticed is beyond me! In stark contrast, Westin was sparkling clean and rooms felt airy.
Service: however, the biggest differentiation is the service at this hotel. As many people have noted, it’s impersonal and cold. As elite members, we always receive communication from the hotel before our stay begins to provide a way to contact and request things. No such thing happened here. When we reached out to ask for a microwave, one was provided at a charge of $10 (unlike the Westin where they were happy to accommodate us). Checkin was rushed, she didnt even give us the welcome leis until our kids asked (interestingly, this is listed explicitly as a benefit of the ridiculous resort fees). Asked about late checkout, and got a curt “it is not an option” without any apologies for not being able to offer it. No options to hold luggage, just a person very eager to get off the phone. The Westin on the other hand was accommodating enough to even offer holding out luggage and letting us use the spa bathrooms after a snorkeling g tour on the day of checkout. The platinum breakfast is a joke, continental breakfast does t even include cereal (The Westin had 3 beautiful choices). The guy running the kids activities was very nice and encouraging
Overall, we are so glad we just had to stay here for 2 nights and instead spent the first 7 at the beautiful Westin property. Given that both properties are category 6 on the bonvoy app, please go to Hapuna! It’s worth the additional 10 minutes for driving time from the airport

First of all, we are Titanium Elite with Marriott, and we stayed here with our kids for many years (2010s) and loved it. It was, by far, our favorite hotel in all of Hawaii for well over 10 years. In our experience, it seems like the hotel took a "nose dive" with the remodel/addition of the Vacation Club rooms. After those rooms became available, the hotel went from feeling beautiful, upscale and luxurious to a motel vibe with individual Igloo coolers of beer and music blasting at the pool. On this most recent visit, there were so many people around the pool, with lounge chairs taking up almost every inch of space in the pool area, that we opted to do excursions versus relaxing poolside and breathing in the Hawaiian air which is what we would usually do. I hope that they can bring the luxurious feel back to the hotel, but I think that ship has sailed. Unfortunately, the only thing that I can recommend is the Hotel Shop where I bought an Un Pueblo Bombon Tote which I love. I highly recommend this beach bag. That said, we will be only staying at the Mauna Kea Beach Resort for the foreseeable future because this hotel is underwhelming at best.

We stayed 5 nights at the Westin up the road and then went to Hilo and ended up back at the Marriott for the last 2 nights before flying home. If we had not stayed at the other property we would probably have thought this one was just great, but being able to compare the 2, I would choose the other one as a family with older children. The grounds are very pretty, the pools are nice, but there is no family pool. The sunsets here are amazing and picture perfect both nights we were there. We were upgraded to a larger corner room with 2 king beds (no couch- just 2 chairs) which was a nice amount of space, but not all that great of a view. The balcony is pretty small. The food and drinks from the pool area are great and the bar tender, I think his name was Chad, has been there almost 30 years he said and is very friendly, laid back, happy to offer opinions and ideas of things to do. We liked having an option to go to the bar after dinner. The things I liked better at the other property were fresh flower lei vs shell leis (which we left in the room), much larger balcony, better snorkeling off the beach, better workout facilities, an adult pool and option for a grab and go continental breakfast. They had Water stations by the pool here, but not as many or as easy to spot. It is still a solid 4 resort, especially for families. They have the Luau on site, it was going on as we were checking in, it is smaller than the Marriott one we went to in Maui a few years ago, we could see the performers as we were walking around the property to get a lay of the land and they seemed to be wowing the audience. I also do not like the towel cards and the breakfast cards and having to present a resort card to get a discount, we are staying at a resort that is quite expensive, do you really think we will walk off with a hotel beach towel? The biggest draw is the location because it is located by the kings and queens shops which gives you a lot of options for dinner, shopping, a movie theater, shave ice etc just a few minute walk away.

This is my third stay at the Waikoloa Beach Marriott, and we have enjoyed each visit. We've stayed in the vacation club section (2018) and the Na Hale wing. Both have above average room quality. My nightly upgrade award (formerly suite night award) cleared without issue, a definite plus. Communication with the resort via app messaging was spot on, always responding quickly and positively. I value that convenience and consistency. The staff are always pleasant and accommodating. The resort grounds and pool are large enough to not feel crowded, but small enough to avoid the carnival that is the Hilton Waikoloa. Lots of lovely beaches are within a short drive or long walk. While not a great snorkeling beach, A Bay is perfect for relaxing. Breakfast at Hawaii Calls is solid for a mid-level Marriott, but service is a little slow. Lava Lava Beach Club is a short walk away and has a fantastic beachfront vibe. Are prices high on a absolute basis in Hawaii right now? Yes. However, relative to alternatives, the Waikoloa Beach Marriott provides solid value, and I look forward to returning soon.

I don't know what a taxi would cost from the airport. We rented a car that was easy to pick up and return at the airport. I recommend a rental car as there are a lot of sites to see and exquisite restaurants to eat at that are not within walking distance.
There are more places to choose from in the Waikoloa area.
