The Hilton Grand Vacations Club Ocean Tower Waikoloa Village elicits a range of opinions. While guests are charmed by the staff's friendly nature and the property's breathtaking views, they often find the rooms in need of an update and experience maintenance issues. The costs associated with parking, shuttles, and dining, along with the overpriced amenities, have led to concerns about the overall value. While the seclusion is picturesque, it may necessitate renting a car for travel. Additionally, cleanliness has been noted as an area for improvement, despite the well-maintained grounds.

Stayed for six days and five nights and encountered an issue every other day, if not more. Upon arrival, I was provided with a single bed instead of two as requested - I had to wait roughly three hours before receiving a studio room with two beds. Two days later, I received a suite with two beds. The thermostat was broken in the suite bedroom, including the front door lock - I had to wait half a day in the room before everything was fixed. The day my family left, the bell service did not load the luggage into the vehicle and I had to pay $80 to have a taxi deliver the luggage to the airport to avoid missing the flight - made the flight with minutes to spare. The cost of self parking was $48 per day. The resort was large with several towers, so the resort offered free rail and boat services to take you to your tower. However, the boats were out of service, and several of the cars for the rail service had a broken A/C. The restaurants available at the resort were good but highly overpriced for a small portion.
I'll admit the staff were very pleasant and tried to make the stay welcoming. Even the manager I spoke with was pleasant but was only able to offer so much. The resort is very calming to walk around, and there are many pools and swimming activities - even swimming with dolphins!
Overall, with the pleasant staff and large resort, the resort and rooms are outdated and need maintenance and improvement. Even the waterway for the boats needed to be cleaned due to algae being present in the waterway.

Pros:
- we stayed for the week between Christmas and New Years for less than $1,000 because of the HGV promotion
- The resort is in a lovely location and the views are some of the best in Hawaii
- Valet was always prompt and worth the extra few bucks to avoid having to hike to the self parking lot
Cons:
- the room and the bed might be original to when this hotel was built
- It is dated and a sad experience for a company that is trying to get people to invest in a timeshare. To put people into an old and dated room with an abhorrently uncomfortable bed for 5 nights, show them the remodeled units but not let them stay in them, and then expect them to buy is beyond a laughable business model.

The reviews on here are all accurate and this is another warning to anyone who might be thinking about doing the same as we did. Spend a little more money and stay elsewhere. It’s not worth the savings to have back pain every morning because the bed is older than you are. Very little the hotel could do given time of year, so just a bad experience from the room perspective. I had buyer’s remorse from the moment I booked and then read the reviews.

The walk from Ocean Tower to the main lobby is a half mile and the slow moving tram ran regularly and was only slightly faster than walking (but good if you caught it and had bags to carry). We did not frequent any of the restaurants besides the coffee shop (which was good but always running out of items). Breakfast buffet was $50 a person for an omelette station and make your own waffles. Italian restaurant was busy at night but we always ventured into the small villages for food. Eat where the locals do, it will save you a ton of money.

We won’t return to this property again, but the island is absolutely worth the visit.

We stayed here February 2025 while my husband attended a conference. While there were some nice features of the resort, I don’t think I’d choose to stay here again. We had a room on the first floor of the Ocean Towers. It was extremely musty, and the AC never seemed to cool the room properly. We let the hotel know and they sent a maintenance person who “fixed” the problem, but it never got better. Also, the sink didn’t drain well. The hairdryer in the room was terrible. The floors were quite dirty. We killed multiple roaches. The room just seemed very overdue for refurbishing. Also, the tram was unbelievably slow. The boats seem to be permanently retired? The large waterslide on the property was closed the whole time we were there.

The positives—the property is gorgeous. The sunsets even just outside our room were amazing. We enjoyed the larger pool. (The smaller one outside our room seemed very crowded.) The lagoon is really neat—we never swam in it, but we enjoyed spotting pretty fish and sea turtles from the bridges, etc. The dolphins were fascinating—we spent quite a bit of time watching them whenever we passed by. Even if you’re not staying here, it would be worthwhile to walk through the property to watch the dolphins. They seemed so eager to interact with their caretakers and trainers. (It reminded us of our yellow lab at home!) Parking is $48/day, so if you wanted to visit, I’d recommend parking elsewhere (like the Kings or Queens Marketplace) and walking from there. It’s not a bad walk, and there are great sidewalks on both sides of the road.

It's not all bad, but there are nicer options in the area.

This resort is incredible! We stayed 3 nights in June and it was pure perfection. I can’t believe any of these reviews that had complaints. We loved every second. The people that work here are lovely, friendly and so kind. Is there a long walk from one end to the other? Yea. So what! Get your steps in and enjoy the beautiful Hawaiian air. Walk along the museum hallway and see the wonderful art work. Or walk along the beach pathway which is incredible views throughout. Or take a tram or boat. No matter what it’s awesome. The food was great too. Every spot we ate at here was delicious. The coffee spots are perfect for take away breakfast like açaí bowls and pastries and yummy coffee. You can grab wraps or poke bowls or pizza at the market by the pool for lunch. And ice cream for snacks for the kids (and adults!) Dinner options were great too, Italian spot was so fast and easy. The lagoon grill had burgers and you sit right next to the dolphins. The pools, wow! Huge! Slides, plenty of seating, jacuzzis, a little grotto area. Pools on both sides of the property. They have cultural classes each morning at the cultural center which are included. The lagoon, omg! Sea turtles swim right by you as you stand on the sandy shore. Tons of fish. I recommend to bring your own snorkels from home! You could rent kayaks and little boats or SUPs. I watched a yoga sup class that looked awesome! Lastly, the dolphin encounter was amazing. It was expensive but worth every penny. Most incredible time! It was me and my 2 boys and we were in heaven. Super nice people that run it.
Our room was fine. Comfortable bed, ocean view, mini fridge. All that we needed.

Again anyone that complains needs to take a chill pill and enjoy this amazing property. It’s not cheap, but that’s what you pay for. Splurge, it’s worth it!

My wife and I stayed at Ocean Tower on our honeymoon (one of several resorts in Hilton Waikoloa Village) and while it was a fantastic resort, I don’t know if I’d personally stay there again for completely subjective reasons.

The resort is absolutely gorgeous, with breathtaking views, plenty of restaurants, shops, and activities on-site, and the newly renovated room we stayed in was incredibly modern and luxurious. Our trip was 5 nights and we could have easily spent every single day at the resort and never ran out of things to do. If you want a relaxing resort-style vacation, this is an excellent choice.

That said… if you’re looking for a more “adventurous” type of vacation, this might not be the property for you. Ocean Tower is located at the far end of the resort, so when you check in it’s about a 10-15 minute walk from the main lobby to actually get to the property. The boat shuttles were not running and one of the trams was out of service during our stay, meaning the entire property was only serviced by one tram which could take almost 20 minutes to arrive if you just missed it. Parking is also pricey - $48/day for self-park, or $55/day for valet. So if your itinerary involves lots of exploring out and about on the island, just getting in and out of the resort can be a bit of an ordeal. And since you’re basically stuck on the resort, of course all the food options are going to be very expensive, even by Hawaii standards. I was also a bit disappointed that for a 5-night stay, we only got one housekeeping visit, though fresh towels were delivered upon request.

All that to say, if your vacation plan is to spend the whole time relaxing at a resort, by all means, Ocean Tower is hard to beat. Otherwise, it might be worth finding somewhere else to stay.

I have noticed mixed reviews for this property and there are practical reasons. This is a Hilton Grand Vacation (timeshare ) property. They have been renovating this building into condo style units for the time share owners. Part of the timeshare approach means that there is no daily housekeeping. You could ask for towels and such and they were helpful. The benefit is that you may have kitchen facilities and a sitting area (depending on your room category). The updated units are very nice. If you are an “owner” you are likely to get one of the updated units. If you are a regular guest - you may end up in a section that has not been renovated yet. The older sections still have great views and access to all the rest.

The layout of the building is unusual but you will catch on. The pools are very nice. The grounds are beautiful and well kept - we loved sitting in lounge chairs along the coast in the morning and evening to just watch and listen to the ocean. As for the resort in general - there is a lot of walking and the tram is slow. Relax and slow down - you are on vacation. I did wish there were more food options. I got some groceries and made light meals in our room a few days. For more than one person, it might be cheaper to take an uber to the kings shops or queen’s marketplace since the resort shuttle is $5 each. I didn’t rent a car this time since parking is expensive. I could have rented a car for a day if I wanted and worked around the parking cost.

Overall - we had a great vacation relaxing in a beautiful setting. We would absolutely return. I wish I had kept notes about the names of staff. We had no bad experiences and there were a few I wish I could compliment.

All the locations inside the hotel are badly connected to each other. To get in our room we had to walk that endless museum-walk which felt like a 20 min hike. There is a „train“ available that takes you to certain stops but it is ridiculously and unnecessarily slow. The a/c in that train is also terribly loud. There is only one parking area and that‘s also the only place where you are allowed to park your car. They charge you 48 USD (!!!) per day. That‘s just rude but they do it because they can! Also that parking space was quite far away. With all the luggage it was the first bad experience when we arrived. Then we asked for memory foam pillows but they just gave us different kind of standard pillows. For a pricey place like this, you would expect more. We left our room for several hours and our room was not serviced at all. There is an adult pool near the room we stayed but it closes at 8pm. Just why?! It‘s an adult pool. There is an Italian restaurant near the room we stayed but it is ridiculously overpriced. We wanted to do a sunset-catamaran-tour. A board said „2 for 50 USD“. When you read the information below (printed in small letters) then you only get this price when you attend a room-sharing-advertising campaign. Without that, you pay like 250 USD. What’s on the good side? Well, I enjoyed the coffee machine in the room. The mattress we had, wasn‘t the baddest one we had yet. So if you decide to stay at this hotel, be aware that you will do a loooooot of walking. The layout of this hotel is really badly done. Oh one more thing: while we sat inside our room with the backdoor open, a gardener did weed-whacking nearby and my partner got hit by a small rock. The gardener was really oblivious about his job.

My wife and I booked this for our annual vacation and spent the extra for an Ocean Front view. There is a slow moving tram that runs but took about 30 minutes between the wait and tram ride to arrive at the room. Once we arrived to the room, the view was amazing however the room was VERY outdated which included stained carpet, odors and wood furniture that was stained and deteriorated. After talking to customer service we were moved to an updated room but had zero view of the ocean and was not offered any compensation for the room cost differences. The parking was at the hotel and very pricey ($50) considering the distance to the rooms. We left the hotel every morning and only used the resort for sleeping, but I do know the cost of food and beverages is insane. (a pizza at the restaurant is $70) Nice restaurants within 10 miles of this resort that are well worth the drive. I am a loyal Hilton member and will not stay at this resort ever again, save your time and aggravation and stay somewhere that is worth the cost!

We stayed in an updated 2 bedroom condo, the accommodations were great, service was also great. Now for the drawbacks.

Ocean tower is located at the far end of the resort from the main lobby, so you have to drag your luggage through the resort grounds to get to to rooms. There is an available tram service but it runs so slowly it easily takes twice as long as walking. There are also boats that are suppose to travel through an on site canal, but I never saw more than one boat running.

Food and drink pricing is outrageous with $12 beers, $5 soft drinks, and $24-32 burgers and pizzas. Real restaurant food is higher.

Location is beautiful, but the isolation makes you a captive guest unless you have a car rental. Current self parking for that car will cost you $48 per night.

We enjoyed the resort amenities but i don't think we would ever come back due to the extravagant pricing.

If you go to eat at the local eateries, expect to spend $250-300 for a family of 4, for a real sit-down restaurant experience

We are on day 3 of our 5 day stay at Ocean Tower and my impressions so far are that although we are in an ocean view room with a spectacular view the building feels old and tired. The rooms are generously sized but the decor is dated and drab. There also appear to be some plumbing issues. We had to switch rooms after the first night because our bathroom sink backed up. We were awakened at 6am by gurgling water noises coming from the bathroom. We called maintenance and they fixed it but it happened again so we changed rooms. Our current room sink is also making strange noises when the water goes down the drain. The biggest problems with this resort are that it is too big and spread out and getting around on the super slow tram is inefficient. There is a lack of dining choices especially after 5pm as well as at breakfast. There is only one breakfast restaurant with a mediocre buffet that is $55 per person! Yikes! There are two coffee places that don’t serve food other than croissants and muffins (not going to work for someone like me on a gluten free diet). We’ve been getting most of our meals in the shopping center at island Gourmet market that has many good, reasonably priced options. However getting off the property is easily a 30 minute ordeal as you have to take the tram to the lobby and then wait another 15 minutes to get your car from the valet. Just everything about this place feels incredibly inconvenient. Not much thought is being put into the needs and comfort of the guests. A little store in each end of the resort with grab and go meals or sandwiches would really go a long way. Not sure why this isn’t being offered as well as a casual restaurant that is open late, would also be nice. Room service is limited to 5-9:30 pm with an extremely limited menu of Italian food only. The dinner options are Italian, the bar with very limited meal choices or the upscale restaurant by the beach. Not enough options.
I think the isolation and inconvenience of this place is a real turn off and I don’t think my family will want to stay here again, unfortunately. On the plus side the staff has been very friendly, helpful and attentive.

That was our biggest issue. The parking lot is about a 15 minute walk from the Ocean Towers. You can take the tram, but it is slow moving and sometimes takes a while to arrive. I can’t remember the exact cost to park, but it wasn’t cheap.
