I stayed here on my first trip to the Big Island six years ago and wanted to go back ever since. I just got back yesterday from a three-night stay and it was just as wonderful as I remember. Barry is one of the sweetest people I've ever met and was great at recommending things to do, places to eat,...

JoAnn & Sarah - Thank you for such a wonderful and detailed review. I went to see Halemaumau Crater yesterday, midday. I was surprised to be able to see spattering orange molten lava from the overlook at Jaggar Museum. The lava lake had risen to a level of only 17 meters below the rim. This allowed a direct view of...

We thoroughly enjoyed our three night stay at this cozy cabin in a great tropical garden. It was clean, very quiet and well appointed. A perfect place to relax, rain or shine. The provisions of fresh fruits, eggs, coffee etc. were more than enough for our three breakfasts. And for us, the location next to Volcanoes National Park could not...

You are most welcome! We are so happy that you enjoyed your stay with us. Almost everyone tells us that they wished they could have stayed longer. Departure morning always comes too soon. But, don't forget, there's always next time!

The Crater Rim Cabin sits in a gorgeous garden setting, away from the noise. The 4000' elevation provides a cool respite after being in the heat of the coast and Hilo. The whole environment allows for relaxation. The cabin is well appointed, even some food (and beer) in the frig! The hospitality of Jim and Barry makes you feel right...

Thank you so much for your great review. (The previous guests must have left the beer, but we are happy you enjoyed it! ) This month (May), our night/day temperatures have been ranging from 55ºF to 68ºF. Great for snuggling in at night and exploring during the day.

We are currently in our second of three nights. Of our two weeks vacation (just ending it) this is by far the nicest place we have stayed. The cabin has four spacious rooms (kitchen, bath, living and bed). The kitchen is well stocked. We are cooking spaghetti right now for dinner. Very quiet as the only tenant. Highly recommended. We have stayed at many B&B’s, and this is certainly at the top of places we have stayed. The windows were so clean you felt as if there was no glass in place, welcoming the view of the lush grounds surrounding the cabin. The cabin provided a romantic and intimate place to enjoy the solitude of the tropical vegetation and...

Many thanks for the excellent review. Barry is very grateful for your comments on the clean windows! He works very hard to keep the entire cabin immaculate! Lately, I have been improving the landscaping by adding more native Hawaiian plants. Fun! Hope to see you here again someday. Jim

Far from the resorts and traditional B&Bs is Crater Rim Cabin, nestled in beautifully landscaped lush tropical grounds. The Cabin is large with a number of nice features (the bathroom window opening to the outdoors stands out) - a large bedroom with a large comfortable bed, all the more cozy due to the electric blanket; a welcoming main room with...

Wow! What a wonderful and complete review. Thank you so much for taking the time to write this. We are at about 4000 ft elevation, so nights and mornings can feel chilly any time of year. Bring some clothes that you can layer, and you will be fine! The nene geese come to the golf course year around, but in...

Barry and Jim have put a lot of love into this property, and it shows. The cabin is adorable and a great home base for exploring Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park. On our first night, it was even clear enough to see the glow from the lava lake at Halema'uma'u Crater. The cabin provides a very private, rustic setting. There is...

Aloha! Mahalo for your good words! We like to do our best to make our guests cozy and comfortable while staying at the cabin. Yes, the Thai Thai restaurant is totally authentic! The chef/owner makes yearly trips to Thailand to procure genuine Thai ingredients for her recipes. We are lucky to have them in Volcano!

This is a very private and relaxing place to stay if you want to spend a couple of days in Volcano. The sweet little cabin in a lovely jungle garden setting is just a few minutes' drive from the volcano park as well as the tiny town of Volcano. This place is NOT for those who like resorts--and that's what...

After researching options, we were lucky to book at Crater Rim Cabin. The owner Jim was very responsive to our emails. The booking was efficient and smooth.
