We had a truly wonderful time here. The room was small, but well appointed and nicely decorated. The bed was super comfortable. The bathroom was a good size, easily enough room for two people to get ready at once. There’s also a shared kitchenette with some frozen meals and snacks that you can buy (you just put your name and what you bought in the log book). Handy if you get in late and missed dinner. The grounds were spectacular. They’re really beautiful, and because it’s kind of out of the way it was very quiet. Ideal if you want to get away from hustle and bustle to somewhere a little more meditative. The staff were really, really great. There is a wine/food hour at 5PM every day. Great as a snack if you’re going to head out for dinner, or as an appetizer if you’re eating in house. It’s also a great way to get to know your fellow guests. We met some really cool people who we’ve kept in touch with now that we’re back on the mainland. It’s also a good time to ask the staff questions or to get their advice on things. The breakfasts they made were incredible – easily the best we had on our whole two week honeymoon. We risked being late for our flight on the last day because we didn’t want to miss our last breakfast! As it happened, we had to bolt out of there and my husband forgot to grab something from the bathroom. He emailed the guys, and they mailed it back to him. He had it back in under a week. Great, great service. We can’t praise these people highly enough. The place being out of the way is kind of a double-edged sword. Finding it in the dark the first time (even with their very detailed instructions) was a challenge. Getting up their solo would be even harder. Of course, we had the added challenge of an epic storm that had passed through the night before, so there were a bunch of trees and branches down. The road had been cleared, but it definitely added to the sense of adventure! Having said that, once you find it the first time, it’s really not hard to get to. It’s actually only about ten minutes from the main road, and from there you can easily get to the north shore, or head south 40 minutes to Hilo. Plus, if you want seclusion and peace, you WANT it to be somewhere that other tourists don’t just stumble across. Overall, we had a wonderful experience here. It was peaceful and serene, but close enough to beautiful and cool places when we wanted to get out and about. We would both highly, highly recommend Waianuhea B&B to anyone looking for a peaceful retreat on the Big Island.

This place is a bit out of the way, but worth the drive, and actually pretty good because it puts you an hour from Kona or about an hour from Hilo, and was a great base to use to explore the northern half of the island. You're not too far from Waimea and Honokaa town so you also have some really nice dining options around you to take advantage of with a short drive. Once you drive the 10 min or so down to Hawaii Belt Road you can go anywhere on the island from there. It is for sale and has been since November 2014, but that has had absolutely no impact on the quality of stay or service you get. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Also, being that the property is off the grid- powered by solar and generator, you get the benefit of having power all the time. They have wi-fi available and a computer for guest use. My wife and I spent five nights there and it was great. The food was great in the morning, and at night they had appetizers and wine for the guests. They also have an honor bar with some quick stuff you can grab for a snack or freezer meal if you don't feel like going out. The grounds are well manicured and pleasant to walk on. The neighborhood is also a nice walk, and you can walk down to an alpaca farm if you want. If you sit out at night you have a great view of the stars too due to the lack of light pollution. They also do turn down service as well, and the rooms are well appointed. We were in the Li'olio suite, and it was just like the pics on their site. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom had both a soaking tub and shower. We also had a small gas stove/fireplace to provide extra heat and our own balcony. They can do massages if you want to schedule one, and they also have a chef that they can have come in to prepare dinner for you. My wife and I took advantage of the latter two nights and it was a relaxing experience with great food. Stephanie did her shopping and prep that day, and presented you with her creation that night. The staff are dedicated to their jobs and to the comfort of their guests. A prime example- We had a bad storm one night that downed trees in the area and the person who came climbed downed trees and walked in pouring rain from her house to come make breakfast etc. We left to move to the south of the island to be close to the park for the rest of the stay, but this is one place that we hope stays around for a long time. We would definitely come back again.

Although a bit out-of-the way, this amazing B&B is well worth the drive. Gorgeous home, perfectly situated, with gracious guest rooms and spacious common areas. We were upgraded to a spacious master bedroom, beautifully furnished. We had a relaxing soak in the hot tub in the garden, followed by complimentary wine and hors d'oeuvres. The innkeeper made a reservation for us at the Red Water Cafe in Waimea, which was amazing. Breakfast the next morning was delicious, with fresh local fruit and an egg dish. The only concern I'd share is that the inn went on the market the day we were there -- they were pounding in the "for sale" as we pulled out.

We stayed two nights at this wonderful retreat. The grounds and house are beautifully designed, the colors and layout lend themselves to relaxation. We were welcomed with a friendly smile. From 5pm - 6pm, there are appetizers and wine. The night we arrived the appetizers were made by Kelly. They looked and tasted great! If you chose to also add dinner, you would not have to leave. You could take advantage of the settings to walk, read, or whatever you find relaxing. The food is locally sourced, farm to table. Kelly recommended the jacuzzi under the stars –– we walked down in the comfy robes supplied, slipped into the water, relaxed and enjoyed the view. We were so relaxed that when we returned to our room we fell asleep! The bed and pillows were just what was needed for a good and relaxing sleep. The towels were soft and luxurious. There are also slippers provided.Towels for the beach were available if you felt like taking a drive to the beach. The breakfast on both mornings was scrumptious! We were introduced to "WOG"[pineapple, orange, and guava} –– a party in our mouth! The staff treat you as family. Your comfort and needs are very important and well attended with courtesy and friendliness. Randi, Kelly, Lisa are wonderful ambassadors. Follow the directions given by the staff -- they are very accurate, the gps seems to go on vacation!

Others have said that Waianuhea is difficult to find. It is true but my Garmin took me right there. You will think you are lost so try to get there before sunset. Once there, you will see that it is a magnificent jewel of the Big Island. I only had two nights there with the house to myself one of those days. Randi and her staff treated me like a queen. They miss nothing. I was greeted with wine and a beautiful cheese tray each evening. Breakfast was nothing short of a dining experience. Randi, the manager, revealed that she went to culinary school, which was evident by the presentation of each meal and the taste....awesome but come with an empty stomach. I treated myself to a huge room with a soaking tub. I slept like a baby. Some have commented that the roosters were annoying, but being from the east coast I woke up before them most mornings and enjoyed the silence with only them in the background. I thought they were a great way to start the day. The entire house is a retreat in itself. I even had a yoga mat in the closet and could have ordered a massage had I thought of that in advance. The drive up the one lane road is typical backcountry Hawaii. It is a bit of a drive to Honokaa or Waimea but everything on the Big Island is a bit of drive so enjoy it as part of the Hawaiian experience. Oh, if you must stay 'connected' then go somewhere else. I had easy access to the internet in the dining room, but not in my room...which made for a special treat for me. Hats off to Randi and her staff for making me feel so very special. I truly felt like I was with family, but then family would never pamper me the way they did. Awesome!

I stayed here in July with my mom and 2 sisters and we all agreed that this is one of the nicest places we have ever stayed. The drive to the B&B is up a bumpy, one-lane, two-way traffic road through the forest, which can either be daunting or exciting depending on your personality (we loved it). Be assured that it is well worth traveling a bit off the map when you see the property. We stayed in the Olu Olu and A'ala rooms which were cozy, clean, and perfect for our needs. I was initially hesitant to book because there is no air conditioning, but was pleasantly surprised to find the temperature drop to the 60s F at night due to the elevation. If interested, there are opportunities to meet and socialize with other travelers and staff at the complimentary wine and appetizer hour, but otherwise it felt as if we had the place to ourselves. The staff were excellent!! Always friendly and helpful when needed but never intrusive. Very keen attention to detail. We were offered everything from a list of local restaurant menus to umbrellas and a cooler for our daily excursions. Breakfast exceeded our expectations! Large servings, beautifully and tastefully prepared with fresh local ingredients. The 3 course dinner was also delicious! They are very happy to accommodate any food restrictions. Location-wise, the B&B is about central between Kona and Hilo making for easy travel around the island. It is also near the scenic Waipio Valley and cute shops in Honokaa. Need to drive a bit farther if you want to get access to a beach, but didn't bother us. Can't say enough good things about this experience! If you're on the fence about booking, JUST DO IT! A true Hawaiian treasure in my opinion.

Waianuhea is difficult to find and out of the way, but the search is so worthwhile! We stayed one night after a day of exploring Waipio Valley. It was raining when we arrived, but Randy met us at the car with an umbrella to escort us inside. She immediately made us feel welcome -- we so appreciated her warmth and hospitality. The grounds and views from the rooms are amazing. The beauty from outside is continued inside with the furnishings, artwork and multiple bouquets of flowers. We had arranged for dinner ahead of time and experienced our favorite meal of our two weeks in Hawaii. The food was delicious and it was fun to have it served and described by our "personal" chef, Stephanie. Randy prepared the breakfast, and it too was artfully presented and extremely tasty. Such a great find -- one of my favorite places I've stayed.

This property is amazing and away from the noisy world, nestled into the hills above Honoka'a and in the shadow of Mauna Kea. The main house is colorful and magical and was nothing like we've ever seen before. Our family stayed in the private back house and we enjoyed the small heat-stove on the cool nights and the sky-lights above the bed where we could watch the stars and fall asleep. We even braved the chill at night to sit in the field where chairs were provided to watch the night sky and listen to the frogs singing and the gentle rustling of the large trees that surround the property. The staff was friendly and attentive and the breakfast was prepared for us in four star fashion. An absolutely pleasant and memorable experience.

We spent some of our honeymoon at your Inn and loved it. Between the Big Island and Oahu we stayed in 5 places, but Waianuhea was my favorite. It was for sure the best place I have ever stayed. Although not perfect, I would recommend you to anyone. The privacy was great for honeymooners like us. The breakfasts were amazing! If it were not for our sightseeing we would have booked dinner. Loved the toiletries, bed service, and small little touches. The grounds were amazing and we loved using the spa. The view was great too! We also appreciate the staff working with our needs. We arrived late and had to leave early one morning and they catered to our needs. Love the book and movie collection too.

Waianuhea was such a beautiful place to stay. Although it is a little far from the main highway, it is pretty easy to get to. The grounds are breathtaking, the views are beautiful, and the rooms are plush and comfortable. Randy and all of the staff are so welcoming and accommodating! They even helped us plan some of our vacation activities. The breakfasts were some of the best We've ever had! We're still craving the oatmeal blueberry breakfast cookies!! This is a place to be pampered. We can't wait to go back!
