This is an ideal and beautiful B&B in one of Hilo's grandest estate homes. I needed a local place for the night since my Internet was down and I was warmly welcomed and treated as if I was one of their first guests ever even though they have been there for years. The location is great in that you could...

There is nothing negative to say about this place. It's an historic landmark, not only of Hilo, but for the entire state of Hawaii. The owners/hosts, Barbara and Gary, are friendly and knowledgeable. The house is amazing and the rooms are comfortable and spacious. We stayed in Aunt Clara's room and it was amazing to wake to the sunset and...

Our two-night stay at Shipman House was excellent. I would return in a heartbeat. The historic house is beautiful and full of interesting artifacts, including a letter of introduction for Jack London and his wife. We stayed upstairs in Auntie Clara's Shell Room, which offers a distant view of Hilo Bay. Everything was very clean and well-appointed. The large, private...

My Mother and I stayed in Flossie's room for two nights during a longer trip to the Big Island, the Shipman house was one of the highlights of our trip. The owners are incredibly knowledgeable about all things Hawaiian and shared excellent tips. The room was large, very comfortable and clean and the large wrap-around porch is the stuff of...

This is a beautifully-restored historic home and guesthouse, close to town, but down a small road away from the main streets, in a gorgeous setting - so very quiet and private. Our room was very comfortable and spacious. But the best aspect was breakfast. This featured great fruit (from the property itself) and home-made baked goods and hot cereal, plus...

Where do I begin! We had such a wonderful time at the Shipman House. We loved Hilo and enjoyed every moment of our stay.- there was so much to do and see! Gary made us feel welcome from the minute we arrived, and we loved chatting with both he and Barbara every morning. Their passion for the island is infectious,...
